State of KD- fun convention facts

Fun things learned at convention- lots of stats, etc. Most of these are taken from the Convention Report that National President Julie L. Johnson gave:

* As of May 1, 2003, KD pledged 8,921 women during the 2001-2003 biennium. 1.4% increase since last biennium. Total initiated membership of the sorority: 177,501

COLLEGIATE

* This past biennium- new chapters/reactivated:
- John Carroll -Eta Gamma
- Wright State - Eta Delta
- ASU- Beta Psi
- University of the South - Eta Epsilon

* Closed in the biennium for various reasons:
- Towson - Zeta Mu
- WVU - Beta Phi
- Bethany - Sigma Xi
- Delaware

* At the close of the biennium, KD has 124 active chapters

*Chapters opening this fall:
- University of Northern Florida
- Towson University (recolonizing)
- Kentucky Southern U

* Over 49 % of collegiate chapters are viewed as one of the top groups or making significant strides and progress to be a top chapter on their respective campuses.

* Over the biennium- 4 Excellence Expeditions were conducted for 20 collegiate provinces. These programs are supported by grants from the Kappa Delta Foundation

* Also started this biennium- the Presidents' and Emerging Leaders' Conference

ALUMNAE
* Total chartered alumnae associations: 486- the most of any NPC group!

PHILANTHROPY
* Shamrock Event:
$210,000 raised for Prevent Child Abuse America - this is 20% of the total proceeds reported to HQ. This biennium alone, KD has raised $1.23 million for child abuse provention- with 80% of that amount retained locally to benefit community prevention efforts. This was the 20th year of KD's affiliation with PCA

Girl Scouts
* KD gave $20,000 this biennium to the Girl Scouts for leadership development by providing 20 $1,000 scholarships to their Young Women of Distinction.
*KD has been asked to work with the GS's new "Studio 2B" program

KiDS- The Heart of the Community
* 24 grants given over the biennium, totalling $100,000 were awarded to various philanthropic entities - 20 different AAs or AA consortia

Children's Hospital of Richmond, VA
* Founder's Day gifts of $25K given in 2001 and 2002
* Chapters and AA's donated an additional $67,573

Orthopaedic Research Awards
Considered by the academy to be the Nobel Price in orthopaedic research, three awards of $20K each were presented each year by National Counsil. Total contributions have been $1,187,000.

Christmas Seals
Contributions this biennium were $290,506.50

Georgia O'Keefe Foundation
New partnership- $10,000 grant given this year to support interns and their Art and Leadership program for girls. Look for a lot more KD involvement!

Angelos- Has won a ton of awards this biennium, I think they're listed on the website
