State of KD- fun convention facts
Fun things learned at convention- lots of stats, etc. Most of these are taken from the Convention Report that National President Julie L. Johnson gave:
* As of May 1, 2003, KD pledged 8,921 women during the 2001-2003 biennium. 1.4% increase since last biennium. Total initiated membership of the sorority: 177,501 COLLEGIATE * This past biennium- new chapters/reactivated: - John Carroll -Eta Gamma - Wright State - Eta Delta - ASU- Beta Psi - University of the South - Eta Epsilon * Closed in the biennium for various reasons: - Towson - Zeta Mu - WVU - Beta Phi - Bethany - Sigma Xi - Delaware * At the close of the biennium, KD has 124 active chapters *Chapters opening this fall: - University of Northern Florida - Towson University (recolonizing) - Kentucky Southern U * Over 49 % of collegiate chapters are viewed as one of the top groups or making significant strides and progress to be a top chapter on their respective campuses. * Over the biennium- 4 Excellence Expeditions were conducted for 20 collegiate provinces. These programs are supported by grants from the Kappa Delta Foundation * Also started this biennium- the Presidents' and Emerging Leaders' Conference ALUMNAE * Total chartered alumnae associations: 486- the most of any NPC group! PHILANTHROPY * Shamrock Event: $210,000 raised for Prevent Child Abuse America - this is 20% of the total proceeds reported to HQ. This biennium alone, KD has raised $1.23 million for child abuse provention- with 80% of that amount retained locally to benefit community prevention efforts. This was the 20th year of KD's affiliation with PCA Girl Scouts * KD gave $20,000 this biennium to the Girl Scouts for leadership development by providing 20 $1,000 scholarships to their Young Women of Distinction. *KD has been asked to work with the GS's new "Studio 2B" program KiDS- The Heart of the Community * 24 grants given over the biennium, totalling $100,000 were awarded to various philanthropic entities - 20 different AAs or AA consortia Children's Hospital of Richmond, VA * Founder's Day gifts of $25K given in 2001 and 2002 * Chapters and AA's donated an additional $67,573 Orthopaedic Research Awards Considered by the academy to be the Nobel Price in orthopaedic research, three awards of $20K each were presented each year by National Counsil. Total contributions have been $1,187,000. Christmas Seals Contributions this biennium were $290,506.50 Georgia O'Keefe Foundation New partnership- $10,000 grant given this year to support interns and their Art and Leadership program for girls. Look for a lot more KD involvement! Publications Angelos- Has won a ton of awards this biennium, I think they're listed on the website The revised Norman Shield- introduced in Fall 2002.
