I love the stories people tell on GC. Tell me your best tent talk stories (obviously with fake sorority letters and no actual campus names such as ABC at Big University).

Anyone have a good one? (As if I have to ask!)

My memory is fading, but I remember some from when I was a recruitment counselor and having to correct the PNM's.


ABC requires you to go to Bible Study.

XYZ circles your fat.

OMG makes you lie in a coffin at initiation/you can only wear your underwear to initiation/there's a live lion at initiation.

LMN is on probation and they're closing.

If you're at RS and the sister who is rushing you puts her arm around you, its a signal to the other sisters that you're going to be cut.

Once you join VWX, you have mandatory etiquette and makeup lessons. Everyone has to wear makeup.

The biggest rumor: JKL got the wrong invite lists and it ruined their whole recruitment. They got back all the girls they dropped and released the ones they wanted and now they're stuck with them.

There was a running joke during the new member period about our initiation that "when you go before the lion, go low and to the left." Someone must have taken it seriously. She was clearly disappointed. The chapter put the kibosh on the joke with a stern admonition, but I can see where the rumor during recruitment may have started.

When members of VY make huge etiquette mistakes as they rush you, they will not invite you into membership.

I've heard a few whoppers (not rush, but hazing-related, I guess):

-Pledges of XYZ are required to dress in Disney costumes and show up to fraternity guys' dorm rooms
-Pledges of ABC have been hazed by being given a choice between 3 lines of coke and 3 guys to, uh, service
-ABC also, apparently, had a pot farm in the house
-DEF's house is haunted
-GHI pledges were hazed by being locked in a heated room with pledges of PQR frat, given beer, and "I'm Blue" was played over and over again, while the sisters sat back and waited to see what would happen
-Members of JKL were asked to sleep with with highly desirable sports recruits to try to get them to commit to the school

A girl in PQ didn't know she was pregnant and gave birth in the bathroom

AB sorority requires their pledges to sleep with a fraternity man(or more than one) or the new member will NOT be initiated!

Sororities will offer you a Coke in a bottle at recruitment.

If you drink straight from the bottle, you are automatically cut because ladies NEVEH EVEH drink straight fom a bottle, even if dying of thirst.

If you demurely ask for a straw, preferably while clutching your pearls, you will be invited to the next round, since that proves that you are obviously a lady.

ABC is a bunch of lesbians and they have "topless fridays" in the house.

EFG google maps your parent's house to see if it's big and in a "rich area"

If you eat all of your dessert at HIJ they will cut you.

KLM makes all of their new members start tanning and they give them hair and makeup tutorials.

My favorite: Don't join NOP because every girl that joins gains like FIFTY POUNDS their first semester. (These actives were not even large, so I don't know where that one came from).

Well none of the actives are in their first semester anymore, so they must have lost the weight before the next formal recruitment! Duh.

ABC will do a Dun and Bradstreet on your parents, if not the entire family.

If you get a bag of popcorn at DEF, you're done. If you get a box of popcorn, you're bid-worthy.

All MNOs cheat at cards, but are very good at it, too. They are also brunette PQRs (who are all blonde, or will be by graduation)!

If you need to use the ladies room at STU, you will walk by the posters marking how each PNM is doing. Figure out where your name would be so you can glance at it on the way!

Wearing open toed pumps was as good as wearing the Scarlet Letter.

We did that, but it meant, "someone come help, I can't talk to this girl!"
