I've never heard of anyone writing a rec for a girl when a chapter of their org wasn't on campus.

I'm not sure that a chapter would know what to do with a letter or rec from a non-member (whereas they know what to do with an official rec). As an active, I'm sure I wouldn't have.

I think that sounds almost taboo to write a recommendation for someone to a sorority that you are not a member of. As a recruitment/membership advisor to my own chapter, I'm not sure I would know what to do with one of those, and quite frankly would probably chuck it and not count it.

I would try to focus on helping her find recommendations from members of the sororities represented on that campus.

i agree-i would be skeptical about a recommendation from a non-member and would not use it. use your resources(other alpha phis, co-workers, friends, girls you knew in college or high school, former teachers, present or past neighbors, etc.) to find members of the sororities that she needs recs. for. forward the girls resume' to them and write a note telling them what you know about her. it will be helpful to them to know your opinion of her.

Over the years we've occasionally gotten a random recommendation letter from an alumna of another org or a well meaning non-Greek guidance counselor or teacher. Sorry to say they end up in the trash.

I always trashed them as well. If they are that concerned, they'll call a friend to do one for us. I've done that for women going somewhere we don't have a chapter.
