Miss Teen USA 2006
Let's discuss the pagent.
When the contestants introduced themselves, they were wearing a short white jacket or vest, a bra top and short shorts. Before the intro, they were wearing a bra top and a skirt. I'm sorry, but that's trashy. And some of the contestants are 15 years old. I bet that there are some parents that are cringing. Since they were in the desert, why can't they wear khaki shorts and a tank top or capri pants or something like that.
I shudder to think about the evening gowns later on tonight.
Don't give me that "sex sells" crap. I know that sex sells, but teens as young as that should not be wearing those things.
If I were a parent, and if my teen daughter wore something like that, I would be horrified.

Wouldn't most of those young women be in high school?
Would it be embarassing for a "Miss Teen" to be a college woman?
Would you want one of your sisters to be Miss Teen something?
Honest question.

-Yes.
Would it be embarassing for a "Miss Teen" to be a college woman?
-It depends. Some enter college at 17 years old.
Would you want one of your sisters to be Miss Teen something?
-No comment, because I'm not in a sorority.
Anyway, thank God that some of the dresses are not trashy. I liked Miss Georgia's, Miss Virginia's and Miss Maryland's dresses. I didn't like the frills on the dresses.

yeah, it's really inappropriate to me.
miss virginia had a split in her dress past her thigh. all i know is, we weren't allowed to wear stuff like to our prom and we were 17-19 years old.
i'm grown and i wouldn't walk out like that.

It was a Donald Trump pagent. Doesn't that tell us something? And yes, I thought that outfit was trashy. I think the winner was beautiful, but that dress?!

I agree with the slits. I love the color of Miss Virginia's dress, but not the slit.
The winner was Miss Montana, BTW.

One of my chapter sisters was a former Miss Teen USA when she was in high school. She had her own column in Teen and everything. She also graduated with a double major and honors in three years, got her Master's in Outdoor Rec from a school in Australia and now leads Outward Bound groups among other things. She is probably one of the coolest people I know.

I loved Miss Virginia and Miss Kansas. I could be wrong, but I don't think this is a "scholarship" pageant like the Miss America ones. I think the emphasis is more on fashion and modeling. I'm not saying I would want my daughter to wear some of the outfits, but if they're strutting around in a bikini, what's the difference?

Most of us are. If they're not Greek, then they are usually interested in Greek Life or planning on rushing and and are here for advice or to share their stories.
Sometimes, people who share their rush stories, don't get invited to join a sorority in the end. But they stick around her because they like the converation in the Chit Chat forums. And that's okay too!

I'm still curious -- just curious -- about the initial question about any of the contestants being in a sorority.
Your sister won the title while in high school -- which I assume the vast majority are. Is that an incorrect assumption?
I would just think that a college woman would find being a "teen" anything would be less than desirable, even understanding that most beginning college students are still in their teens.
Is that a misreading on my part?

I think you're being very strange about this. There are many 17, 18 and 19 year olds in college, they are still "teens". Miss Teen USA is a pretty big deal, it's the most well-known beauty pageant for that age range. Why would somebody see it as "less than desirable"? It's a HUGE deal to win it. Most of those girls are not old enough to compete in Miss USA. I don't know many 17, 18 and 19 year olds who abhor being designated a "teenage"... particularly when it's the biggest and most well-known pageant title for that group.

I believe she won the title her junior year of high school, yes. I would guess most Miss Teen contestants are either in ther last two years of high school or possibly first year of college. I don't think it would be less than desirable, I think it would be pretty interesting to have a pageant winner as a sister, and would say a lot about the woman (that she's poised and knows how handle an interview) no matter if her title is Miss Teen USA or Junior Miss Bee Queen.
Honestly, I would hope that a college woman would focus more on the person and less on the title.
