Apartment repair questions.

My apartment is facing some repairs, and according to a contractor we had look at the problem told us "if it's minor, maybe three days, major, two weeks." This problem affects both our bathroom and kitchen.

So, my questions are:
1) Is our landlord obligated to provide us with a hotel room or other living arrangements, or are we on our own?
2) Is this something that should have been noted on the lease (we didn't see anything on there about situations like this)?

check the terms of your lease.

If it's not in your lease, talk it over with your landlord.

If it's not on your lease, check out the Rent Guidelines for your city or state. They will describe in detail what the rights and responsibilities of the tenant and owner are in this situation. I would read up on those before you talk to your landlord--since in most cases, they don't think you'll be versed in your rights and will tell you what's most convenient for them.
