Texas Princess, I agree with you to the extent that the way the columnist worded her article made the problem a whole lot worse. But I'd say that the columnist should not only have chosen more eloquent language, she should have been prepared for the consequences (anger, demonstrations, etc.) when she expressed her contempt for NPHC organizations and their members. Yeah, she's a bad writer, but she did an excellent job of making her feelings clear in plain English.

The whole column, especially the last sentence with its reference to staying out of "our" little world, smacks of a desire to avoid contact with African-American students and to preserve segregation between black and white student groups. It's really hard to imagine an eloquent or respectful way that she could have expressed the idea that "I really don?t want them [NPHC] to be involved with our events." Even a mild whiff of that kind of closed-mindedness in a column would (justifiably) inspire disgust and protest among her fellow students...and this column stinks.
