How would the estate recoup these except via litigation? The child did it, so in a literal sense, you have to sue the kid (even though the parents/insurance will pay it).
But if that really was the issue, why did her estate wait until after her death to sue for her expenses? Plus, it's not like her death was related to the accident in the first place.

They sound like money hungry people with a frivolous lawsuit and are using this accident as an excuse to sue.
