Beta adopted "delicate shades of pink and blue" as its colors as 1879. Pi Phi adopted wine and silver blue as its colors in 1882. While I guess it's possible that Pi Phi was inspired by Beta, I frankly would seriously doubt it.

I figured that maybe her dad, grandfather or brother is a Beta. But based on her comment above about philanthropy, maybe she feels a connection to the FIU chapter's diabetes research philanthropy and thought that a sister sorority might share that philanthropy.
