This isn't a recent story, by any means, but ESPN has just done a piece on Lyman Bostock and his murder. I'm a bit of a nerd about baseball history, so I'd heard of Bostock, but many fans haven't. He seemed to be on his way to a great career before he was gunned down at the age of 28.

If you have any interest in baseball or the history of the sport, it's definitely a good read.

Powerful story, I hadn't heard of Bostock so I'm glad I read this; I'll send the link to my Dad, he falls in the "baseball nerd" category as well. Unbelievable that Smith essentially walked!!!! :mad:

It's kind of interesting that the story has been all but forgotten about, with very few recent accounts written about Bostock or his death.

From a purely baseball perspective, he was an outstanding hitter; if you look at his stats (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/bostoly01.shtml), both his basic (batting average, OBP) and advanced (OPS+) were pretty solid.
