Hip Hip Hooray!!! My son's fiance got a job!!!

Had to post because I'm doing a happy dance by myself in my office and I need to share:p

My son's fiance got her masters back in May and has been looking for a job in Gainesville since then. She has to stay there because my son won't graduate until May. Of course, college towns have very few jobs available, so it's been a real nailbiter:eek:.

Yay!!! They are so relieved, so I'm so relieved!!!!:D:D:D

That's pretty awesome!! What kind of job did she get? (if you don't mind me asking)

Hopefully i'll find mine soon!!

She got her masters in secondary math education, and she got a job teaching geometry.

Unfortunately, there were NO teaching jobs in Gainesville (the only one she was offered was a long term sub position), so she interviewed in the nearest towns over, and got one!

She was worried about the commute - then she told me it would be 30 -45minutes each way! I was like, OMG - here in Houston people who live in the suburbs would kill for a 30 minute drive!!! Good thing she has an economical car!

I'm so happy - it is so stressful to not know if you have a job or not:(

Best of luck to you! I hope you find one soon. What type are you looking for (if you don't mind me asking)?

In all honesty, i'm not sure. I got my degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and i've mainly focused in on Communications. But, I don't have a lot of work experience, and what I do have is in retail (both clothing and food).

I've found a couple jobs that sound promising, but I guess i'm worried that I don't have the knowledge to do the job. A lot of the jobs that are available here either need 5+ years experience in that field, or are teaching or engineering jobs.

I hate the old "catch 22" of needing 5+ years of experience - but, how are you supposed to get the experience if you can't get a job!!!

Good luck!:)

My son will be in the same boat as you next spring when he goes job hunting. He is getting a double major in Economics and English, doesn't know what he is going to do with it. He has been working as a manager and bartending at a club, I guess he can say that he's had experience in management:rolleyes:

I'm so happy for her. I'm from Gainesville, and I know how hard it is to find jobs there period.

Can you tell us the name of the town where she will be teaching?

SWTXBelle 07-30-2008 07:43 PM

Yeah for being employed!

Yeah, finding a job in Gainesville is rough. I am happy for her.

Ocala. I guess it is a bigger school district because they had many more open positions than Gainesville. She feels really good about the school and liked the principal alot when she interviewed. I just hope she gets good kids!! She is a tiny, petite little thing and I worry they might "eat her alive"!!

SWTXBelle 07-31-2008 03:37 PM

My 4th grade crush is now a principal in Ocala - if hers is Rusty Corley, tell her he was really cute as a 10 year old.

srmom 07-31-2008 04:34 PM

ooh, wouldn't that be a small world if it was the same guy? I'll ask her the principal's name!
