kissing girls...

Okay, so I just watched the movie "Kissing Jessica Stein" last night, and it really got me thinking. For those who haven't seen it, in short, it's a cute little movie about a young, successful, attractive (yes, feminine) woman who, after becoming frustrated with the dating scene due to her experiences with shady men, answers a "woman seeking woman" ad in the paper. What follows is a touching but frustrating romance between her and another successful, attractive (yes, feminine) woman. Neither woman had any previous lesbian relationships.

Questions:

Have you seen the movie? If so, what did you think about it? Do you think it's realistic, or do you think that stuff like this never happens in "real" life?

If you are a woman, would you ever consider it -- I mean, getting involved in a romantic relationship with another woman? Before you just jump right out and say "no way" as I suspect many of you will, what if it just sort of, well, happened? In the movie, Jessica answered the ad because the woman who placed it used a quote that really spoke to her (and it was a "friendship or more? ad). It was VERY clear at their first meeting that Jessica was COMPLETELY weirded out and tried to leave but couldn't get a cab. She was VERY uncomfortable with the whole idea...but yet it ended up happening. She had never done anything "like this" before, and apparently had never even THOUGHT about it.

What do you think? I hope that we can have a mature discussion... :)

Is sounds like you are getting ready to switch teams.

warning: sweeping generalizations ahead!

From what I have observed, a woman will be able to "switch teams" because she feels an emotional connection, more than a man will. I think women can get past the physical aspect more....whether this is our society or our physiology, I'm not sure.

That is, I've heard of a lot more women who've gotten fed up with men and started relationships w/ women, then the other way around.

D*mn 100 views and only two replies.

Guess I'll have to break the ice here.

Yes! Out of CURIOUSITY, I would try it. And, she'll have to be a girly girl.

I thought the same thing madmax. :D

Well let me tell you after listening to my guy friends laugh hysterically every time they fart, I'm about ready to switch to the other side. I've thought about what it would be like to kiss another girl, but when it came down to it I couldn't do it unless i was extremely plastered. I'm too attracted to men.

valkyrie 10-28-2002 05:31 PM

LOL you guys! I'm not switching teams...I just thought it would be an interesting discussion.

For the record, though, I *have* kissed girls. Just kissing, that's it. I don't think I would ever do more, but I guess you never know. The whole point of the movie was that Jessica had never been attracted to women before, but something just made her respond to the ad. Boys are nice, when you find a good one. ;)

Dionysus' theory of sexual orientation.

Hetrosexuality and homosexuality is relative, not absolute. NO ONE can be 100% hetero nor 100% homo. The straightest person has a little homo in them and the gayest person has a little hetero in them. What classifies is what you ACT out on.

Dionysus-- AGREED!

Hmm...I'd have to decline on the girl-on-girl deal. They have way too much emotional baggage for me to handle, hell, I can hardly handle myself at times! Plus, I like for the attention to be on me, not some other chick, lol! I'm strictly dickly :D

Not to be crude, but a quote from my friend Courtney pretty much sums up my feelings:
"I would be a lesbian, but I crave the d*ck too much."

To quote fellow Western Pennsylvania gal Sharon Stone, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that schwing " :D

That is funny .. . :D

Thank you for your honesty. That is something to respect.

yes i've kissed a girl... or two  it doesn't take much to get the bartenders of Iowa City to give you free drinks all night ;):p

And who hasn't joked to their girlfriends/sorority sisters: "I've had it with men, they're all ignorant, mean, unemotional, (insert adjective here) jerks! I'm going lesbain!"

Honestly I do like guys too much to switch teams - and after going to an all-female high school with 2,000 other women, believe me i know, women can drive you just as crazy!

Haha!!! That's it exactly. It is amazing the power you have over men if you are a woman kissing another woman. ;)
