Co Ed Sleepovers
I just finished watching a rerun of Diff'rent Strokes:D and this was an episode where SAM, had a co ed sleepover with his best friend Terry played by the future Punky Brewster. During the episode both Mr. Drummond and Terry's dad struggled with the issue of their children sleeping over together.
Would you ever allow your son/daughter to have his/her best friend who is of the OPPOSITE SEX sleep over? Why/why not? At what age would those sleep overs conclude? I did not have my first coed one til my junior year in high school:o and I was a GUEST :o and it just so happened that my friend's cousins and his friends did not have a ride back home. Nothing MUCH happened.;) I went home to mama pure as the driven snow. |
I love Different Strokes lol.
I had my first coed sleepover when I was around Sam's age. His name was Robert. It was a couple of other boys and girls there. It was actually a birthday sleepover. We had fun playing all the kids games. I wouldn't allow coed sleepover for my child. We were innocent back in my day, but now kids are not so innocent. You'd be surprised what kids under the age of 10 do. |
I never had or went to a co-ed sleepover. I think I would let my kids go because I would trust them to make the right choices. And of course I would know the other child's parents and know that they were being supervised. I don't think I would put an age limit on it either.
I keep thinking of the Moesha episode where Brandy gets caught at the sleepover with Usher...:D |
Are you all SERIOUS?????
Im just 20 and I was NEVER allowed to have a co-ed sleepover. My mother would've smacked the taste out of my mouth just for asking. However, when I got to college...now that was something different. What mama don't know won't hurt her. But I must say I was/am a responsible young adult and nothing ever happens. It is actually the best thing to be able to chill with dudes like that and have no strings attached:) Poodles, HolyGhost7 |

To answer my own question, I just realized that a lot of times I had "co ed" sleepovers or went to them with my cousins and my brother's best friends and mine growing up. Now in terms of say, my daughter having little boys at HER sleepover I would up until the age of 8. This is only because some girls have really close guy friends or vice versa but they would be supervised just as I would a same sex sleepover. However, between the ages of 8 - 10, some kids began to develop in terms of physical appearance. I don't want my child to grow up faster than necessary. No I would not say "Shaniqua, let's invite TYRONE to your sleepover." but if Shaniqua grew up with Tyrone like a brother and they were frick and frack, I would not mind if he spent the night from time to time but he would sleep down the hall. Call it my Love and Basketball mentality. ;) I would also explain to my children that touching a person in the private parts is inappropriate. Quote:
Keep in mind INNOCENCE differs from naivete. |

I understand where you're coming from Crimson, but realistically parents can't always keep their child from being exposed to certain things.A child interest in sex can come from peer pressure and curiosity. As much as you may talk/scold whatever to your child, your attempts to keep them from being exposed may not be successful. And a lot of times, it's not the parents fault at all. |
