Want to choke the hell outta an officer(s)

UGH! OK, so I am an alum member of my chapter. We have our consultant visit next week. Most of the officers have been doing a reasonable job getting ready for it. But there are a few who dont give a crap and its frustrating.

Heath, the recruitment coordinator. I had served as the RC for 3 semesters. I offered to meet with him to go over hi standards and paperwork, he kept giving me excuses as to why he couldnt. Heath is a JI. Just got initiated in the summer. Hes never evn met a consultant and hes trying to tell me he knows whats up and how to play it. I'm like, "Fu*k you, what do you know?" I wanted to blacken his eye right there. (the part that chapps my arse is this is the same kid who was telling me a week ago how he wants to go for a recruitment award. Apparently he is so dumb he cant wrap his puny mind around the concept that the eval form the consultant is pretty closely tied to the award.) UGH.

Then Kris asks me for a ride to the car dealership today. So I give him one and I ask him (hes our VP, and in charge of Public relations) "do you have the welcome packet for the consultant?" Hes like no. I was like you need to go to the welcome center, get a folder, maps and his parking permit. SO as soon as he gets here it looks like we know what the hell were doing. Hes like "Um, someone else will take care of it." Oh really. He then tells me, "I dont give a $hit what Indy (where our HQ is) thinks of us." To which I tell him, "Who the fu*k are you to decide that? If you have one undergrad in the chapter who does care, then it is your obligation to care. You were elected to handle these things for us." Hes like um, ok. Totally blowing me off. UGGGGGG.

This visit is really important because we finally are in a position to get an above average rating for the first time in chapter history (we are the perpetual avg chapter) whis is in line with our (chapters)goal to have an excellent rating in the next 2 years. So this visit is important.

So Should I not care? Thes guys are ungrateful, they dont realize the crap we went to to get here. We are so close. Why am I so invested? I graduate in May. I should be drunk right now. I am stressing over this and several guys are just "whatever." I AM NOT EVEN AN OFFICER, just a member of the Housing Corp. I know all of ya'lls have had the urge to choke the hell outta a brother/sister over $hit like this before. How did you cope?

Sounds like worse than a bummer, lifesaver.

Did you talk to the President of the chapter? It's HIS job to oversee the officers, and if HE doesn't care, then yeah, your fraternity's screwed.

If he DOES care, then he'll make it his business to throw some weight around. I hope to heck he'll squish the lethargic attitudes out of those brothers you don't like :)

Yeah, I've put up with junk like this. I was treasurer of my fraternity last year with a president who didn't give a fsck how much money we spent as long as he got his way. He would throw money at the next event we had before I could even count it. And he made contracts with companies without the fraternity's approval -- but since we had alumnus who liked him, we ended up paying through the nose to keep them happy instead of impeaching him.

Now, he's demanding more money to take care of stuff before he graduates -- and hmm, guess who's in charge of stopping him? :D :D :D :D :D

Hope things work out in the end!

Well, I agree, talk to your president, see if he cares-if HE doesn't care, well then......

the only other option I can see is get all the current members who DO give a damn, and take care of it yourselves. It sucks that it has to come to that, but if YOU care, and others care, than it is worth doing. But in my opinion, your VP is being a Jacka$$. Sorry.

So, I hope it works out for you.

Menance..

Be sure to ask for requests in writing. That way, you have proof that the money was IN the budget until Mr. Pres decided to use the fraternity's money as his personal wish list. Then, when the other brothers find out that something the fraternity used to pay for, they have to pay for themselves or do without.

Better yet, tell Mr. Pres to go to his alumnae bros and have them pay for it! ;)

I'm not sure how your organization works, but I'd assume that are is something in writing that describes each officer's jobs. I'd present that to the executive board and tell these slackers to either do their jobs or give up their titles. Holding an office should mean something! If they don't give a crap then their brothers should know and they should be forced to give up their office.
What a disgrace!

Update..

Thanks everyone. AOPII Angel, great suggestion. I did talk to the chapter president. I also taled to the officer in question and he apologized. I offered my help to the President, but in a way that he would know of the situation. So he was glad. Things have seemed to have chilled, but wont be better till next Wednesday when the consultant is on the road to his next chapter and we have the above average rating in our hands. Next step, excellent rating.

Again, thanks everyone... :)

You might also want to talk to the Consultant when he is there...diplomatically, of course. Making a consultant aware of certain issues just prior to his visit really helps him do his job - he can focus more on the areas that really need attention and improvement. He could also (diplomatically) work this into the final presentation he makes to the chapter, should your fraternity's consultant's do this.

Let us know how it turns out.
