Inter-Greek Council formation & Helping another chapter with recruitment
Hello everyone,
I have two reasons for joining greekchat. The first of which is I'm currently forming an Inter-Greek Council on the UW-Stout campus, and I'm looking to hear your suggestions about what worked and didn't work on other campuses. The second reason is I'm looking for some ideas to help a fellow Sigma chapter. I am a Tri Sigma from the Beta Pi chapter at UW-Stout and our chapter currently found out that a near by chapter is struggling. They are in desperate need of an amazing semester of recruitment because they are currently splitting up the duties of the chapter among 9 actives. I am looking for any ideas that you may have on how we as another chapter can help them rebuild. This is the chapter that our current National President is from and it would be a shame to see them disband. Thanks, Jlynn |
I think that it's great that you want to support your sisters at another chapter. I would suggest having your chapter president speak to whatever alumna(e) oversee your chapter and ask if it is a possibility. I assume that National Tri Sigma is aware of the situation, and they likely are working to support and strengthen the chapter.
Also, I would suggest that you edit your post to delete your college and the name of the other chapter's college. It would be a shame for a PNM to read about a "struggling" chapter on a message board and enter recruitment with a negative opinion of the chapter. FWIW, my own chapter went through a time when I was in college when we were "struggling", but because our numbers were so small, we had an amazing sisterhood. Fast forward two years, and we won an award at our National Convention. Things can and do change. |
The first thing to do is to fix some of the broken links on your school's Greek life page. :) I would also advise that APO and GSS not be included in IFC or Panhel (if they are already) as these groups choose their members in a different way than IFC or Panhellenic groups. APO chapters (I won't speak for GSS) are really not supposed to be in IFC or Panhel.
As for supporting your nearby chapter, one of the best things you can do is for each chapter sister (or a few of them since the other chapter's numbers are quite low) to "adopt" one of the girls and send them daily notes of encouragement, hellos, etc...basically just reminding them how lucky they are that they joined the group that they did. If it's at all feasible, travel to their campus for Homecoming, Greek week, other events etc and WEAR LETTERS. Offer to let them "practice" on your guys to improve their conversation skills for rush and to find quick ways to get out of sticky situations. (Pretending to be the rushee who won't talk about anything except Twilight is always fun. :) ) I won't say attend their rush parties, unless you stay in the background as many PNMs on here have stated that they really disliked talking to a sister all night and then finding out she wasn't from that chapter. Help them set up and such, but when it comes to actually meeting the rushees they need to do that themselves. |
