Would you break up a physical fight between a couple??

okay.. So the Tyra show did an episode regarding how likely people are to break up a physical fight between a couple..So I would like to see what you ladies say. Would you break it up or call the cops and keep it moving

Also I was faced with this dilema when my roommate and her girl friend were physically fighting.

Between a man and a woman?

Btween two women?

Between two men?

Little32 05-21-2008 07:11 AM

I was always told to be careful of those situations, because the two people fighting might gang up on you or it also might be a scam. So in any situtation, unless I know the people personally, I would probably call the cops.

If I know the people personally, I would try to break up the first two, but I would not touch the third.

MeezDiscreet 05-21-2008 10:27 AM

I don't break up fights. AT.ALL.

I've jumped in to fights tho.:o

hahaha

It always depends on who's fighting and how much damage is being done.

Me either, I'm a fragile flower. Edited: I didn't pay attention to the white part at first, but I'm LMAO!

Between a man and a woman?
I'll call the cops.

Btween two women?
Do nothing. Women being violent is hella hot.

Between two men?
Do nothing. Maybe yell "fight!" like I did in middle school. And why should I pay money to watch men wrestle and box, when I can watch one in the street for free?

preciousjeni 05-21-2008 12:22 PM

If it's an argument that's getting heated, I'll usually ask "Are y'all ok?" to draw attention to the fact that another people are noticing what's happening. If there's a fight in progress, I'll call the police.

On a related topic, if I have ANY question about someone's safety (child, woman, man, whatever), I'll ask if they're ok. This has gotten me in trouble with parents in the past. It's one thing to smack your child in public, but it's another to beat the child down, particuarly with a weapon of some sort. If a child is on the ground and still getting hit, I'll ask if there's a problem.

TonyB06 05-21-2008 12:49 PM

I think I'd try to intervene if I saw a man hitting a woman (although that's a punk-azz move, and he'd probably pull up once he realized his punktivity was on full display.)

Two dudes or two women scrapping? ...I'd probably call 911, or go get one of the ever-present and effective mall security men.

BlessedOne04 05-21-2008 12:50 PM

I don't break up fights. Not adults, kids or animals.

I will call the proper authorities.

naturaldiscretn 05-21-2008 01:06 PM

It depends on how well I knew the people fighting. I would never break up a random people fighting. If I knew them well and felt confident in breaking it up, then I would.

christiangirl 05-21-2008 01:40 PM

If it's one of my female friends (not so much male), most definitely. That's just how people in my circle are. If one of us is in trouble, the girlfriends are there waiting to dance. ;) The same with family members of either sex...if one is threatened, like 20 cousins pop up out of nowhere. I've broken up several of those, with help and on my own. As far as strangers, I've called the police once or twice and I've also hung out the window with my friends watching and making ignorant comments...it just depends on how funny it is. :o

delicaterose617 05-21-2008 02:56 PM

Ironically enough when Tyra did this experiement the only fight that people intervened in was the one between the man and the woman. The girlfriend couple and the boyfriends couple just recieved stares from bystanders.

I ended up calling the cops. I didn't feel comfortable breaking up the fight because it was really a lovers quarrel where one was saying I want you and the other one was saying I don't want you. As some one else mentioned above. I would have hate to try and split it up only to get ganged up on ( after all it was an on and off agian type couple. I knew them pretty well because one is my roommate....

thanks for the responses.

I think its inappropraite to disipline a child in public... I don't have a problem with parents "whoopin" there kids but in public opens up a can of worms.

christiangirl 05-21-2008 03:18 PM

^^^Was this the episode from this morning? I usually wake up in time to watch, but missed it today and wondered what the topic was.

Benzgirl 05-21-2008 03:23 PM

Would I break any of them up?

HELL to the NO!

i've done that before. i don't PHYSICALLY get involved but the eye contact to the "victim", ARE YOU OK, and eye contact back to the "aggressor" has been used to diffuse the situation.

random but related. one night back in college i was out late... in a place i had NO BUSINESS BEING anyway... and called my roomate to pick me up. on our way back to campus we see two people SCRAPPIN in the street. as we drove by we say hair flying so we were like oh no, thats a woman getting beat down. We drove up, honked the horn and flashed the lights and yelled GET IN THE CAR!!!!!! The dude was startled so he just kinda stood there while she jumped in... we drove about another block to a 24/7 grocery store and thank god there was a policeman on patrol. I don't know what happened after that but the lady was just crying and my roomie and i were shook for about a week after that.

anytime i *think* i see a situation i make sure to do the "are you o.k." check cause you never know.

TotallyWicked 05-21-2008 08:04 PM

I've broken up fights between two female friends...not a bright idea..but I was real close to em, one of em struck me...i didn't respond cause uh a 6'3'' dude hitting a woman back wouldn't be a good look

I haven't broken up a fight between male friends...from my experience it only occasionally gets physical....

and I don't get involved with couples..unless I sense there is some severity, e.g. I learn that there has been some problems...I know how to get involved without making things dangerous.

Diva_17 05-21-2008 09:06 PM

Female to Female:
If it was a friend of mine that was involved, and I know that friend is not a general instigator of fights, I'd definitely break it up. However, hot head chicks picking on other females are another story. I'd watch and grab a bag of popcorn for a hot head chick getting whooped. I know that's not a good answer.

Male to female:
In situations where the damage seems significant, I'd call the cops and keep it moving. Actually, I'd probably always call the cops and keep it moving.

SKEEphistAKAte 05-21-2008 10:10 PM

Two men- call the cops or keep it moving

1 Man + 1 Woman- call the cops

Two women I don't know- call the cops or keep it moving

A girl friend and another woman- jump in and start helping.

If my friend is winning, I won't jump in. If it looks like she might take an L, then I will come in with the "all right ladies, that's enough" and try to break it up.

I don't fight. I press charges. :D

on Tyra it was getting really heated.. ppl kept watching. when it look like they were gonna get physical, a firefighter .... started to break it up then the cameras has to come out to prove it was an experiment.

roommates: fighting.

Young1 05-24-2008 06:58 PM

when it comes to breaking up a physical fight.....

male vs female: call the cops, my mother always told me if you don't know them the best you can do is involve the proper authorities to handle that

female vs female: sorry no chance of me even stepping in, if its people i know well then imma try to stop it before it gets to that point, if not im gettin a dude to break that up

male vs male: yell from 3ft away for them to stop, cuz more than likely they just playing around. if its forreal, i would probably do the same and call the cops

AKA_Monet 05-24-2008 08:34 PM

Why even get into a fight with anyone. Sounds juvenile and stupid.

If folks have to resort to verbal profane onslaughts and physical violence to solve their problems, well they have more challenges ahead of them that require professional and licensed intervention...

Just breathe...

KSUViolet06 05-24-2008 09:10 PM

I do not break up fights. If it looks serious I will typically call the cops.

A man and a woman - I'm calling the po-po.

Two men - I'm keeping it moving or about to get some popcorn.

A girl friend and another woman I don't know - I will see if my girl is winning the fight. If she is, I'll let her keep on. If she's about to take a serious L, I'll break it up.

thesweetestone 05-26-2008 09:59 PM

I'll stand on the sideline and holler " Yall need to stop that!"

brickhouse492 05-27-2008 12:31 AM

I'll break up men (if they're my peeps) 'cause they don't hit women breaking up their fights.

Women fighting, ... I minds my busii !! That catwomen crab ain't turnin' on me!

But if u see me in a fight, you better help get her ghetto azz off of me cause I didn't hit her first, I tried to walk away and I'm not getting scratches on my face. Fighting, I'm just so over it.

Granny 05-28-2008 01:16 PM

Personally it would not sit well with my spirit to see a man and a woman fight. So I would have to jump in and pray we both don't get hurt cause I have never fought before.

delicaterose617 05-28-2008 03:47 PM

Keep in mind that all of these ppl are dating so its a lovers quarrel.

starang21 05-28-2008 04:49 PM

two men - no

man/woman - maybe.....but what kind of man is whooping on a woman anyway

two women - i grab the popcorn, and the jello mix.
