Alpha House
Does anyone have a picture of our house at Syracuse?
|
The Butterfield House
Here you go. Not a great picture, but I didn't need to look far

I seem to recall reading that another organization is currently occupying the Alpha Chapter house. Does anyone know which one? Or am I just making this up?

The sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta formerly resided in the Butterfield House at 709 Comstock on the outskirts of campus. Today, however, the residence serves as a learning community for SU women. In less than a year, the lease on the Butterfield House expires and it's anticipated that the sorority will recolonize in the 2008-9 academic year Let's hope the last few words is true. |

Knowing this is the Alpha chapter if International decides to recolonize, I'm sure we would see some heafty donations coming in. Let's keep our fingers crossed. |
LOL! That's my blog! I was asking if anyone had a picture because that was the only picture I could find. The information about the house is what I was told by IHQ. We do own it and it is currently being used as an all female dorm. We will be recolonizing in the future.

I lived in Butterfield!
I lived in AGD's old house my freshman year at Syracuse, and it was awesome. I didn't request to live their - 35 random freshman girls were thrown in there. I thought it was a learning community and freaked out, but it ended up being a good experience, haha. It's still a freshman girls dorm right now, but I think you guys are taking it back next year, or something.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask! |

Once all the houses make quota (all but one did) AGD will recolonize.

Okay, I was a bit confused thinking that an Alpha Gam from Ga Tech (AGD Gamma Phi Chapter) knew about Syracuse.
GammaPhi88 is a Gamma Phi Beta.;) When I first started going to the local Panhellenic meetings, it took about 2 or 3 meetings before I figured who "Gamma Phi" is. |
Waiting on Pi Phi...

This article also has a larger picture of Alpha house. |
Let's Go Pi Phi

Thank you, article

Syracuse's greek life has been growing exponentially in the past few years; this past spring, there was something like 800 girls rushing, and i know many for whom rush didn't "work out" in one way or another so there's obviously space for another sorority. i know that the butterfield house is currently occupied by SU, but the lease ends next year and me and a couple girls i've talked to would love to bring AGD back to SU. how do you guys feel about that, and what, in your opinion, the possibility of that actually happening?
|
what, in your opinion, the possibility of that actually happening?
The "Big Squirrels" will have to tell us that!;) But I'd love to see it back! |
I'm a greek at Syracuse, and I've had long discussions with many of the sisters and some on Panhellenic about this happening. We need all houses to be at total before we recolonize AGD, and most are. The exception is a fantastic house...they just need more great girls. While their pledge class this year is not total, it is full of fabulous girls who should really help the house reach total.
Of course, we'd love to have AGD back for a few reasons. First, many of the girls assigned to Butterfield House were not exactly excited...and there was a lot of drama in that house. Secondly, we'd love another sorority. Many girls did not have positive rush results this year, and another house would give the Syracuse future Greeks a fantastic new option. More and more girls go through rush every year...this year had around 800, and another house would mean more Greeks...and who wouldn't want that? |

I'm going to go ahead and speak for the rest of us and say YES, we want our Alpha chapter back! |
FINALLY!!!

I found this, and other pictures, on a blog. I'm not having much luck at saving the pictures on my computer so I can post them on MY blog...maybe one of y'all could help me out? http://www.flickr.com/photos/3011290...7594376950521/ I also found a picture of Alpha house in the Quarterly online. Does anyone know how to save a picture that is in adobe acrobat? I'm clueless. http://www.alphagammadelta.org/conte...Fall_2005Q.pdf Random fact that I learned from this Quarterly: the house that Butterfield designed was actually Alpha chapter's 4th house! Now, if I could only get my hands on pictures of the previous 3... |
yeah

I'm not positive, but I believe that the Butterfield Chi chapter house was also not Chi's first housing facility. I have a picture of my grandmother with other sisters, and the house isn't the same. My BFF lives nearby the MSU, and I am trying to bribe her to go to the historical society to get me the info.
|
You are correct, it's not Chi's first house. I believe it is their 2nd or 3rd house.

I'll put more pictures up when I can figure out how to get the pictures copied to my computer... |
This is awesome news, ladies!

Okay, so according to this, the House Association for the Alpha house is being dissolved.
There was a MySpace bulletin pleading with members to help save the house because it's in danger of being sold. Is there any truth in that? I find it hard to believe that they'd be getting rid of Alpha house, especially when we hope to re-colonize the chapter soon. I'm confused. Could someone please explain? |

To the Sisters of AGD from the mother of an AGD collegian - I was a member of Gamma Phi Beta (also an Alpha Chapter at SU) at Syracuse and had many good friends in AGD. I truly hope SU will give AGD first rights if a new sorority is brought on campus (there are 10 less sororities at SU now than when I was an undergraduate - but the SU administration was never fond of the Greek system - maybe that's changed). Alpha Chapters are special, and I hope Butterfield House is returned to its rightful use as an Alpha Gam chapter house. I would hope that the Gamma Phis and Alpha Phis (the other two of the Syracuse Triad) will push for this as well.
