What's your style?

What is your personal style? Do you like to dress up and be preppy? Are you the hawiian shirt king or queen? Or are you somewhere inbetween?

Personally, most of my clothes come from Gap. My typical outfit is either dark jeans or khaki shorts, black top, black sandals, kate spade bag and diamond stud earrings. Simple, casual, with a little bit of dressy.

Hootie 06-08-2001 01:44 AM

I would have to say my style is classy conservative. I work pretty much everyday so I dress more conservatively but with class. My closet is full of clothes from Learner's and The Limited.
I'd say I'm boarderline preppy though. When I have the chance to be casual I like to dress in khakis or capris. I especially love my overalls though. I believe that my mood affects my choice in clothes.

IowaHawkeye 06-08-2001 08:38 AM

my friends refer to me as the Gap queen... I've worked there so I've taken advantage of the discount http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I would say I'm preppy - but more classic. I don't like loud flashy patterns, i stick with the simple colors and lines. I wear just about anything Gap, Banana Republic and Jcrew.

Abercrombie and Fitch girl, here! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

SigmaChiCard 06-08-2001 01:09 PM

I have a two different styles

I'm usually dressed in B. Rep/J Crew from head to toe, with the occassional thing from A&F. Almost always khakis, (I have one pair of jeans I occasionally wear) with a stretchy little B. Rep shirt - typically a polo, or v neck. Always wearing my Birk Bostons or milanos, or JCrew Berkshires. My new favorite outfit is any mix and match of the pants, shorts (2), or shirt I just got [all linen], I am kinda obsessive with style (for a straight guy).

My other style is all-outdoors, Patagonia, North Face, Mt. Hardwear, Kavu, Marmot, Saloman...I love all that stuff

newbie 06-08-2001 02:53 PM

I don't know what I am...it changes day-to-day, depending on my mood!

Sometimes (most of the time, actually) I wear classic styles....but on the other hand, sometimes I love to dress sorta "trendy" if you will, or sometimes I will dress up (long skirts with a slight slit, sandals to go along with it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif). Other times I dress sporty!

So I honestly don't know http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif.

P.S. But I have an obsession with strappy sandals!! I have soooo many pairs!!

i am undoubtedly the Express queen. i have the jeans, the black pants, the capris...and the list continues. i love to look very neat and well put together. that and Express clothes fit my tiny little self perfectly...what can i say i am only 5ft 3inches http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

ZTAMich 06-08-2001 11:20 PM

I am the multople-personality girl. LOL. Peices from about every store in the mall...A&F tanks, American Eagle shorts, Gap sweaters for the winter, Limited jeans, Express jewlery, JCrew long black skirt, Old Navy flip flops. Some days I wear pj pants to class others I'm in a dress. I love red, black and blue clothes. Pink and purple for summer. Little leopard peice for everything, or hawaiian too. I'm NEVER without my diamond stud earrings...my signature peice of course! I love the feeling that I get when I put an outfit together. It's not the look off the cover of a magazine and it makes me proud to know I am an individual and I probably didn't break the bank. Notice I said probably!

gammazetagrl 06-09-2001 03:03 AM

I dunno what to call my style--preppy with a hint of hoochie? I dunno LoL.

Gaaah...is there anything wrong with "brand name anything"?I must confess that most of my clothes came from Benetton, Armani Exchange, Guess,NafNaf,Diesel and Stefanel when I was living in the Philippines (we didn't get American brands A&F,Gap or Express over there, just mostly European brands, so I didn't wear A&F and the Gap until I moved here). I wear baby tees/tanks, capris, jeans or overalls from those stores plus gym shoes or maryjanes and (gotta have) a matching purse...and of course, I also Greek attire such as tees or sweater w/ letters!

For party wear I like one shouldered or sparkly halter tops and them so called sorority girl pants...the tops I get them real cheap at Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe--they're mostly 18 bucks or less and pretty durable too...plus the ever reliable Kate Spade purse to carry your "necessities" (which of course, was already discussed in the other thread). I also have a collection of cheongsams (the traditional silk fitted chinese dress w/ mandarin collar)--w/ sleeves or w/o, short or long and in a lot of colors...I wear them to parties, or in church (the long ones w/ sleeves anyway)w/ my hair up w/ sticks and it makes me feel like Lucy Liu or someone... ;D my ex told me many times how he finds the look so sexy. Anyway the cheongsam has withstood centuries of fashion trend changes and I don't think it's gonna go out of style anytime soon http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif...I have a beautiful floral red sleevless long one that I wore to one of our formals and it gave me a break from the traditional "prom queen" type of getup (although dont get me wrong, i like that look too!). also that one dress's side slits were slightly higher than the traditional cheongsam's slits were supposed to be...my ex was the one who pointed it out, saying "i don't think the ancient chinese had their slits THAT high..."

DreamfulOne 06-09-2001 08:45 PM

most of my clothes are gap, old navy, LERNERS (I love their selection all year long), Dress Barn or Casual Corner (for my suits/church clothes). I'm also an express girl as well as Bebe.

Most of my shoes come from Kenneth Cole or Nine West.

My Style

During the week I work, so its got to be professional dress. I have an ensemble of different colored shirts from Mens Warehouse and I have a couple black slacks from Hechts. I love the black labeled haggars I believe. On the weekends it depends on what I'm doing. If I'm going out I'll probably wear a nice polo or collared shirt. I have a couple Chaps/Ralph Lauren shirts and Eddie Bauer Shirts. I'm a big fan of Nautica too. I just got a really nice Nautica wallet that zips up. Right now my two favorites for cologne are Cerrutti-Image and Ralph Lauren Romance for Men. I've been wearing the former lately and I think its awesome.

AlphaChiGirl 06-10-2001 12:06 AM

I realized that I don't really shop anymore. I used to shop much more in HS, when I had time, and I had the distinct feeling of being in a fashion show. I pick up articles whenever I'd like something new, but I don't shop nearly to the same extent as I did during HS (which was two years ago!). In HS, I did GAP, A&F, Limited, and Esprit like mad, when those were the only stores in my mall and I didn't know any better! Now, when I shop, I go to department stores like Nordstrom, Saks, and Bloomingdales, or classier women's stores like Ann Taylor or Ellen Tracy. Of course, I can go into how my style changes when I'm in the North as opposed to the South, but that's another thread (which I will start soon! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif).

dc1 06-10-2001 01:13 PM

I wear JCrew business casual clothes for work. Abercrombie/JCrew for casual(polos and cargos).
I rarely wear jeans, but when I do they are Lucky*Brand Jeans.

That's about it.

Faced with the Divine, I was asked; "What one gift do you seek?"
I answered ever so meekly; "I seek Honor, Truth, Integrity, and Wisdom, yet those are four. How am I to choose?"
The answer came as a pounding whisper; "The four you seek are but one. I grant thee Compassion; for without it the four make none."

I tend to dress very classic. While I may throw in a few trendy pieces or colors, overall I like to dress in minimalist (meaning mostly solids or very very simple prints) flatteringly cut clothing. I tend to shop at Bebe (but only for pants), French Connection, Anthropologie, and beyond that nicer department stores like Saks and Bloomingdales. In the winter (I live up north) I generally wear pants and a merino or cashmere V neck sweater over an oxford shirt, in the summer, a sundress or a skirt and tank top.

33girl 06-10-2001 11:52 PM

Lately "is this my style?" has been answered by three questions.

Is it clean? Yes.
Does it need ironed? No.
Does my butt still fit into it? Yes.

If it passes those three tests, I'm good to go.

Maybe if the temperature gets above 60 here, I will be in the mood to wear summer clothes!

O2BADeeZee 06-10-2001 11:55 PM

I love my Daisy Duke cut off shorts paired with a skimpy spaghetti strap t-shirt with our letters on it. I just love to make guys drool over me http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thrillhouse 06-11-2001 02:42 AM

T shirt, khakis

LXA1048 06-11-2001 10:09 AM

There is only one major difference between how guys and girls decide on what to wear. The ladies hold their clothes up to their body and guys hold their clothes up to their nose.

InquiringMind 06-14-2001 04:18 PM

Casual Cute. For day to day, I'm usually in bootcut jeans, a fitted shirt, and sandals. For work, its The Limited and Lerner all the way. The only time I wear gym shoes is summer--with jeans or shorts and tees--and that's on a "bad" day.

lifesaver 06-14-2001 05:45 PM

Depends on the environment, or what I am doing. At work its Khakis and button down (Lots o Starch - luv me a heavily starched brushed cotton)w/tie. After work I collapse into one of my 3 pairs of cargo shorts, (AF/Gap), or Soccer shorts. Tshits, any chapter or school shcirt will do, but I always wear 2 tshirts. I am wierd like that. An under -tshirt, old and beginning to grey, with the sleves cut off, then a nicer mixer shirt or rush shirt over that. If I am going out casually, I'll put a gap pullover on with the shorts. If it is evening, I'll throw the Khakis or CK jeans on. If going out. Its all about dressing up usually. Black hacking pants from 'Nana, and button down or nice pullover with chunkers (shoe). The rest of the tiem its Khakis (Flat front from 'nana) and red wings.

Also I dont wear much jewlry, but Wear my chapter ring, and a cool bracelet that I got (both) from James Avery Craftsman (Can you believe they dont have a webpage) but if you are from the south or south west, you have heard of them. I only wear silver jewlery. Gold doesnt look good on me and I have 2 FAB-O fake TAGS that keep great time. One black face all siver and the other white face, all silver. Bought them in Mexico. As hard as I am on watches, I'll wait till someone loves me enough to spend the cash on the real deal.

My style is basiaclly preppy. I shop at the gap and j crew and occacionally A&F

MeLikey 08-15-2002 10:11 AM

My style is defintely trendy...I'm a shop-a-holic! My clothes are from Rampage, Windsor (great store with trendy, unique styles and adorable formal dresses), Arden B., and Bebe. I usually dress up for class unless it's Friday (no Friday classes this semester though!). If I don't feel like dressing up, I throw on my Express black comfy drawstring pants and DG t-shirt with my hair up in a ponytail. Though I think I may dress more casual this semester just so I can wear one of the three pairs of cute sneakers I just got!

Cool! I start working at the Gap on Saturday! :D Can't wait for that discount!!

dzsaigirl 08-15-2002 08:01 PM

I have a diverse sense of style, but I never buy anything that is trendy and I never get trendy haircuts.

I have been the same size for a long time, so I can wear my clothes until they are too worn to wear them anymore. I like jeans and t-shirts if I am not trying to impress anyone, just sitting around or running errands. I also love the way jeans look with going-out-boots (the black ones) a white or black shirt and an awesome necklace. I like to have sort of a focal point...like this necklace that I have, I love it!:

When I am less casual, I like clothes from The Limited (their pants fit me like they are custom made...awesome). I also like Banana, although now that I am on my own, my trips there will be to the sale rack only since my mom used to do the buying! Same thing for Ann Taylor and Petite Sophisticate...my mom always wants me to dress from those places, but they are expensive!

MVP4GPB 08-16-2002 08:54 PM

Where's the love for H&M??? All of my clothes come from there, that store is amazing!! They don't have it in the south yet, so I go through withdrawl while I'm at school, but there's a ton in the NY/NJ area and hopefully it'll spread! I like to think of myself as classy-trendy, and H&M works well for that... you all should totally check it out! I could LIVE there!

*C*

MeLikey 08-17-2002 01:05 AM

Hey MVP4GPB, I like H&M too, mostly for its cool, inexpensive accesories. I was just at the one in the village (NYC) and you can just get sucked into that place...it took us a while to get out of there!

AlphaSigLana 08-17-2002 01:23 AM

My clothes are from Express, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, some dept store brands(non famous), XOXO, and my favorite store GUESS!! I always feel guilty when i shop so i always try to make sure the clothes are on sale that i buy. Some victoria's secret! And American Eagle(best boxersleep shorts for females). I love to dress all types of ways except anything too skimpy.

Shine 08-17-2002 06:20 PM

My "style" is very much a mix of SoCal surfer girl and NY socialite. ( I grew up in Chicago and now live right smack dab in the center of white-collar Snottsdale Arizona).

My daytime wear consists of three staples: capri pants, tank tops, and flip flops.

Yes, capris are still in here. I'm not a fan of shorts, and it's too hot for pants, so I'm in heaven. I'm also not a fan of printed pants, so they're all either denim, khacki, or black linen.

As for tanks, I've got more than I can count. Most in shades of black, purple, and blue. Halters, spaghetti strap, sweater, wife beater, you name the tank style, I've got it. For tanks I like GAP, Urban Outfitters, Old Navy, and Bebe.

And my flip flops. I've got everything from cute Old Navy ones to Bebe thongs. Gotta love em. My favorite are Sanoks that have a slight heel to them and a leather upper. I've also NEVER gone wrong with GAP flips.

As for accessories, I almost always wear a hemp/puka shell choker and a Tiffany heart bracelet and Claddaugh ring my ex gave me.

I've never had another pair of sunglasses I liked more than my black mantis Arnettes.

If I'm going to class, I have a Kenneth Cole messenger bags. I'm just out during the day, I take my Kate Spade purse.

For night time and less than casual events. I have my black club pants and an assortment of more formal tops and tanks, mostly in black. For shoes, I love Kenneth Cole and Nine West, but I'd be remiss not to mention the black Manolo pumps I've got hiding in their box in the closet. (They only come out on special occasions). With all that stays the Tiffany bracelet and ring, but instead of a choker I have a silver snake rope necklace with a big chunky star on it. I HATE HATE HATE wearing dresses, so this outfit is my preferred, but alas there is pref night and formal where I have to pull out my little black number.

Sorry so long!

valkyrie 08-17-2002 06:47 PM

I think my style is somewhat eclectic. Sometimes I dress up, and sometimes I don't, but I do wear a lot of black. I prefer wearing long skirts to work instead of short ones, because I HATE HATE HATE pantyhoes and like to wear open toed shoes.

My uniform for the summer has been one of several knee length denim skirts (I hate shorts) and a cute little black shirt or tank. It's been so hot all summer, it's nice to put on something I don't have to think about too much, and I like showing off my tattoos. I'll wear Reefs or dressier sandals, depending on where I'm going.

I usually shop at jcrew or Marshall Field's, and I love stuff by Laundry, BCBG, bebe and babyphat. I like anthropologie, too, and some Banana Republic -- I have great sandals from there.

The one thing I'm sure of is to always have a nice handbag -- I'm all about my Louis Vuittons and my Fendi...

jharb 08-19-2002 02:18 AM

I usually am a jeans and t-shirt girl but I also love to dress up. I'm very classic in the way I dress and LOVE kate spade purses and burberry purses. My new favorite purse though is from lands end! It's one of the classic canvas totes and it's the mini size in a pink gingham on the straps. It's so cute and summery and I just love it! :D I'm all about handbags, I can spot fakes really easily but at the same time I have a fake louis pochette b/c I consider it a down payment. :p

I'm addicted to reef flip flops and my cheap target boots. I also love Gap stretch jeans (in any wash or cut) and American Eagle jeans. I'm also all about capri pants for some reason, I lived in them this summer. My typical outfit was a t-shirt, denim capris and reefs flip flops!

I'm a lot like IowaHawkeye, I work at the gap and most of my clothes are from there anymore. I hardly have anything that isn't and if it's not Gap then it's Banana Republic! :)

Jess

Shark_in_Skirt 08-19-2002 06:21 AM

What a fun topic! Thanks to the original poster for starting it.

My style is, for the most part, preppy. I'd say that my wardrobe is definitely classy/conservative, but with some interesting twists... My clothes are never, ever, ever slutty!

XOXO,
Annie.

CaramelCutie03 08-21-2002 05:44 PM

I am like the clothing queen!!! I am entirely too trendy for my own (bank account's) good. Express is my mecca, but a bebe and Guess just FINALLY opened here, so now I have 3 stores to "relieve stress" in. I also have lots of DKNY, Baby Phat, J. Lo, BCBG, Kenneth Cole, and XOXO stuff. Imelda Marcos would be proud of me and my shoe collection--brand doesn't matter as long as they're cute.

I'm in jeans nearly everyday with a cute lil top or tee. Being barely 5' tall, I gotta have heels--sandals, boots, dress shoes.......even my flip flops are wedges!! For work I'm usually in J. Crew (still out of habit since I used to work there last year), Banana Rep, Limited, or Ann Taylor.

KSigkid 08-21-2002 06:41 PM

Depends on where I'm going, but...

Since I work with preschool/toddler age kids, I usually wear a t-shirt and shorts to work (since there's always a big chance of something getting ruined). I'm big into polo shirts and kakhis, either cargo shorts or just plain kakhi pants. When it's colder I like button down shirts or sweaters, cargo pants or jeans.

I guess I'd call myself kinda preppy...

Collin

juniorgrrl 08-21-2002 06:43 PM

Well, since I've started law school, my style has gotten a bit dressier. And a bit more practical at the same time. The Kate Spade has been put away from every day use - my stuff gets so dogged around from putting it on the floor all the time, or under a backpack with 50 lbs of books in it, that it was starting to get worn.

I've also become a lot dressier. In UG, I'd wear overalls to class with a tank top if I was feeling lazy. This week, people have been doing the dress-casual bit every day, so I've been wearing a lot more skirts.

But regardless of where I am, I am the prep queen. Which makes it hard shopping now because all the peasant look stuff is in stores around here. I would just look ridiculous if I wore anything from BeBe or Rampage.
