How stressful is your job?

If you could rank the stress level of your job from 1-10, 10 being the most stressful, what number would you give yours and why?

My job is not that stressful at all. I would give it a 3. The only time it gets a little annoying is when I have 3 lines ringing at the same time. Other than that it's easy, and stress free.:)

DeltAlum 07-09-2007 11:13 PM

I'm a television director.

The stress level goes from about 2 to about 38.

BuckeyeTriDelta 07-09-2007 11:15 PM

I'm a special education teacher..it varies from 5-10 (especially around IEP writing and state testing times).

AKA_Monet 07-10-2007 02:34 AM

Sucks to be me...

I am a Ph.D. Molecular Geneticist in Hypertension Research. I am a 100 in terms of stress. I am working on mindfulness meditation, eating right, and slowly becoming a painkiller-alcoholic. No really, I am seriously reconsidering my position because my health is affected now. :(

SNUIGC 07-10-2007 02:43 AM

Mine is a...2...then again, I'm working at Wal Mart full time, while going to school full time, while doing...everything else. Only reason it's a 2 is because if I mess up and lose my job, then, I have 1 month before I can't pay rent.

Scandia 07-10-2007 06:39 AM

Depends on the season. If it is program evaluation month, the stress level climbs up to around 8. Otherwise it is around a 5 or 6. Of course, rough customers can bring it up to 10.

AlphaFrog 07-10-2007 07:19 AM

6... My boss always wants backup for the backup for the backup. We can't simply just turn in a report. Every report must have figures, dates, averages, highs, lows, Y-T-D totals, inception totals, etc...and all of that has to be backed up by other reports. You get a stack of paper 3 inches thick for one report. It's not hard, just annoying to put together.

whew! i got stressed just reading that title! it sounds like one of those jobs that you can't stop thinking about in the shower, in the car, in your dreams...during sex lol!

mines varies from a 4 to an 8. especially since my evening receptionist moved... i still love her though...now i have no time to do my work i was doing, and am forced to stay late and on my feet at 5 months pregnant. it sucks a** but oh well...

AlethiaSi 07-10-2007 09:10 AM

well for my day job as an accts payable administrator (or whatever BS title they give me) it goes from like a 2- 8 or so... Most of the time, its stress free, but sometimes, when dealing with vendors or having to investigate payments, fees or dealing with any of our leases... it definately gets to me.... besides I hate what I do... so that doesn't help...

as a waitress? it goes from a 2-10 some nights. With a few tables, its easy, relaxed, etc... but if i can't get in the zone.... definately a 10.. then i'm running around like an idiot. :p

i feel you. my day job is pretty low stress. people are nice enough because they NEED me. when people act up, i walk away, so i guess it's a 3 most days on a scale of 1 to 10. the day it hits 5 is the day i leave, LOL. the low stress day job is the ONLY way i have the energy/desire to continue with my night job.

the night / seasonal job is photography. screaming kids should be stressful, but they're not. it's their snotty parents who try to run my shoot. i'm all for suggestions but for real, you came to me because you want PROFESSIONAL photos done. if not, stay at home and break out your kodak 110 and leave me alone. most nights my stress from that job is a 5. occasionally hitting a 7, but only because people are stressed by the time they get to the studio and they wont let themselves relax, then they try to transfer that stress to me.

nothing brings out the pageant mommy in me like a photography session...that 15 minute drive there can result in dirty clothes, crying for no reason, bad attitudes...its like they know how to ruin the picture before they get there lol! after you tack on the initial time for bathing and an hour for hair your nerves are SHOT!!! still, i try not to have an attitude about it. its my childs fault, not yours!

Greekopedia 07-11-2007 03:14 PM

I'm like an 8. I'm a District Manager for a retail company. eek!

My daughter is usually a happy, laughing child, and she loves for her "Bama" (what she calls grandma) to take her picture...but you get her in front of a professional camera, and she looks like someone just kicked her puppy.:p

wow IDK you totally are my BFF (the "D" in this case stands for definitely)
this is the epitome of my job. and my ex-boss had the heaviest Indian accent - so anytime i hear the word "backup" i hear his thick azz voice screaming, "where is the backup??!!!!!?"

AKA_Monet 07-11-2007 03:29 PM

The stress-o-meter is way up today. I probably will die from what I study...

mr.kev84 07-11-2007 03:37 PM

Woman, I don't have a job! You all are a bunch of suckers for getting caught up in the system and working for the man!

angelic1 07-19-2007 02:54 PM

In the rare week (twice a year at fourth of july and then christmas) it's around a 3-4, the rest of time its at least a 9-10.

A variety of what I do...

Some days I travel across the state... talking spending 8 hours or so some days in the car and in the same day holding hearings/public meetings on cases where people will ask you tough questions, scream, yell, etc.

When I am in the office I spend all day tracking cases, filing new projects, holding conference calls, meetings, etc. and this is for about 60-70 large scale development projects in various stages.

They keep saying they are going to hire someone else to help since my boss moved out of her position and left me training a new girl to help. But I have yet to see the help. This is on top of having to do research for other projects as well. I am lucky if I have any life outside of work right now... all I do is eat, sleep, think about work.

Honestly it is not worth it to me anymore and I thinking about finding something else even if it pays less....

ForeverRoses 07-24-2007 09:20 AM

My job is normally a 5, unless someone is getting let go- then it is a 20. I hate sitting in a room watching someone get fired.

Recently I would say my job is an 8, but only because I am trying to do the normal stuff, plus get everything in order for my maternity leave. Oh and annual reviews and open insurance enrollment are also pretty stressful times (those are usually 10s).

KillarneyRose 07-26-2007 01:51 PM

I'm Director of Communications for a regional healthcare system. On good days, it's a 2 and during crazy periods it's, oh, a 50. Most of the time it's fun, though.

sbx_six_eye 07-26-2007 01:55 PM

My job is pretty straightforward...I'll give it a 3....but on pay week...OMG>>..some days it's like 30 or 40...how can everybody's check be wrong...lol

AKA_Monet 07-26-2007 09:11 PM

OMG!!! MY BOSS IS PSYCHO!!!

nikki1920 07-27-2007 09:35 AM

breeve....

Anytime near deadline: 15
Anytime near the first: 25

Any other time, I'd say a good 7.

AKA_Monet 07-27-2007 09:39 PM

He's on glass...

A group of us (meaning scientists with Ph.D.'s and some with M.D.'s) found out my boss is on Provigil--it is non-habitforming non-amphetamine...

So, that's why he's acting crazy...

I tell you... A few of us need to get certificates in psychotherapy in Biotech to help crazy Principal Investigators.

nikki1920 08-01-2007 02:06 PM

Today (see the date) is a 15. And why we had a 3 hr staff meeting TODAY of all days, is beyond me.

Infamous12 08-01-2007 03:22 PM

Eh, I'm at a 4 today...only a few times have I been in the 7-9 range. 10 range...I'd just leave. LOL.

lovelyivy84 08-01-2007 05:02 PM

Non profit consultant- stress level at a solid 8, although I enjoy it- meeting with the high muckety-mucks is great and a wonderful opportunity, it just requires a LOT of preparation and attention to detail. Not to mention people can lose their jobs based on my recommendations, and it's something I take very seriously. Not to mention wearing a suit and being well turned out EVERY day (no more flip flops at work) is more than my casual behind is used to (although I enjoy it thus far).

AGDee 08-01-2007 06:05 PM

Mine can go from 1 to 10 at any given moment. Today was definitely a 1. I'm not sure I even did anything useful today.. well, I guess I did, this morning. Last week though? I was so busy I never sat down and stayed late every day. Doing IT just varies so much. Oh, and it helps this week that 7 of our 8 managers are on vacation this week, including our department chair. We're trying to convince the 1 remaining manager that we should have a retreat at her cottage on Friday. I don't think we're getting anywhere though :(

This is our work week to get ready for the first day of school. So tell me why our new director scheduled meetings every fricking day this week (how to talk to the parents, how to talk to the kids, how to talk to each other, how to talk to each other about the parents and the kids)

Then on top of that she schedules a tour. Who does that?!! Our school looks like a complete mess, but yet you schedule a tour for prospective parents...THE FRICKING FRIDAY BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS:mad::eek:

Scandia 08-25-2007 07:52 AM

School has started.

I feel overwhelmed already.

I just found out they scheduled a program on a Saturday where I planned on being out of town- hopefully my boss will be able to cover it.

If they contact me from the school I'm assigned to work with, it will make things a billion times easier.

School starts for me shortly. I feel overwelmed too and it hasn't even started yet, just getting ready for it is stressful enough.:(
