Superman Returns
I saw the movie yesterday and it was EXCELLENT
I thought Brandon did an amazing job as Superman/Clark. I'm not feeling it though on Kate Bosworth. I just don't think she made a really good Loise Lane, but what can you do. LOVED Kevin Spacey as Lex. He was AWESOME I'm ready for the sequel. LOL. |
Watch what you say about Kate Bosworth. After I saw her in "Remember the Titans", I decided that if I ever become a stalker, she'll be the one! ;)
|
thats what i've been hearing, we bought tickets for tomorrow, i'm so excited ;)

I forgot she was in that movie. :D |
Christopher Reeves was in the credits, very nice touch.

asuadpi and i must have seen different movies. i thought that the movie was incredibly boring, and moved along very slowly. even the opening credits were boring. the dialogue was very simplistic.
the guy who played superman is very handsome, but his acting was very one dimensional. it seemed to me that he had one facial expression for the entire movie. kevin spacey was not a menancing lex luthor-he was a joke. so were his henchmen. and poor parker posey(lex's girlfriend)-i just felt sorry for her. my husband liked the special effects, but toward the beginning of the movie, there is a shot of a mega yacht-it looked like a toy boat. all in all, unless you are a huge fan of superman, i could not recommend paying full price to see this movie. it does not live up to the hype, and is not worth the price of admission. |
Maybe it's just me, but there are parts of the movie where Kate Bosworth reminded me of Kristin Davis...the scene near the end where she's in front of her laptop totally screamed Charlotte York to me. Don't know why.

You are welcome to your opinion. That's totally fine that you didn't like the movie. I really don't appreciate that you are claiming that we "must have seen different movies" because I liked the movie and you didn't. We are two different people with two very different opinions. And that's fine. It's okay that we have different opinions. I'm sure we could come up with a movie that I absolutely hated but you loved. And that's okay! But I wouldn't start telling you that we "must have seen different movies" because I hated it and you loved it. |
asuadpi, i was not casting aspersions at your opinion of "superman returns", just trying to make a point about how different our opinions were. my comments were about the movie, not you. and yes, i am sure that we could find a movie that i loved and you hated, but that is for another time and another thread.
i AM sorry that you took my review of the movie as a personal attack-that was not my intention. and really, do our opionions matter that much anyhow? i mean, folks will go see the movie or not, because they want or do not want to see it, not because we are the siskel and ebert of greekchat. |
FSUZeta- :D, how did you feel about Bryan Singer (the director)?
I thought he was okay. I think he was definately pulling in his X-Men (no holds barred for special effects). Your comment about Brandon's acting reminded me of how much I hated Hayden (Christianson) acting in Attack of the Clones. Your comment on "one dimensional", that's how I thought Hayden was in Episode 2. Now, I thought he was much better in episode 3, so I'm kind of guessing that Brandon will be better in 2 and possibly blow us away in 3. :D Here's the thing that cracks me up...I was telling my brother this...How can you (the characters in the movie) not tell they are the same person!!!???!!! I just don't get it!!! Take off the glasses...WOO same person. LOL. |

Clark is 6'3 but Superman is 6'4? Mmmkay, lol I am so glad that I saw the movie. :) |

It's all about the shoes. LOL. The boots add the inch difference. ;) |
Do you think this movie was a good idea, or, do you think they should have waited until Smallville ended its run and restarted the entire franchise with Tom Welling in the title role?

I don't think Tom being in the title role was something they even considered. My brother is a huge Smallville fan and I asked him that (question) and he said something along the lines that Tom didn't want the role. I can understand that. Smallville has five seasons of him being known as "superman". If he did the movies, that is three movies that he would have had to sign on for and he would always be known as superman. That would be a really hard image to break. So I can understand why he would say no (if in fact he was offered and turned it down). |
Just watched it today!
Well, my FI drug me to it....and I'm glad he did! I loved it!! |
I LOVED the movie. It was insane how much Routh looked like Reeve. Even the credits were done in the old way. I will see it again in IMAX this time. :)
|
Ebert said the actor who played Superman must have been really bad or the script really sucked which might be why he didn't get to say much. The art of editing. He grudgingly gave it a thumbs up. I warned my brother about this before we went to see the movie. It felt like Kevin Spacey,Lex Luthor, was carrying the entire film. Kate Bosworth did the best she could with the script she was given. They should have made the Jimmy Olsen character more of college intern as opposed to an adult. The material used for the Superman costume made it look cheap. Certain parts that could've have played up weren't used because they will most likely go into the future sequel.
The special effects saved the film from being a total clunker. I agree the tribute to Christopher and Dana Reeve was a nice touch. |
I enjoyed it. I thought the script and plot could have been better, but it was fun. It did seem like they cut out a lot of good material that could have made the story better, but who knows since it wasn't there!
My and my friend's hubby thought it was a little on the chick flick side since they spent a lot of time on the relationship between lois and superman. |
i havent seen superman yet. but, has anyone here catched the ABC family show Kyle XY? it reminds me of superman and smallville. pretty good so far.
|
What I hate is when critics (or others) start blaming the actors. Like others have mentioned here, they are given the script to work with. Plus, if the director isn't "encouraging" them to "push further" then they won't.
That is just a pet peeve of my when it comes to all movies. |
It was a very slow movie. The dude that became Superman was good. However, he had little to work with. Bryan Singer, why did you pass on X-Men for this?

When the credits started, I wanted to stand up and cheer -- like with the Star Wars episodes, they were using the credit styles (and the music) from the earlier Superman movies. Quote:
I had been particularly nervous about how Brandon Routh would do as Superman, but I thought he did very well. I had no complaints at all -- he was a very good successor to Christopher Reeve, who was the definitive Superman. Quote:
I enjoyed the movie very much and highly recommend it. The only thing that really bothered me was that Metropolis was basically New York City with a Daily Planet building. I mean, I know that in many ways Metropolis is NYC, although to me it has always been more akin to Chicago, and that’s how I picture it, while Gotham City is really more NYC. (I’ve heard the comparison that Metropolis is NYC by day, Gotham is NYC by night.) But really, even if Metropolis is NYC in disguise, I don’t want to the see the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, the New York Life Insurance Building, etc., when Superman is flying by. Literally, the Metropolis skyline was identifiably the NYC skyline with the Daily Planet Building added. I found that somewhat distracting. But otherwise, I'm ready to see it again. |
I neeeeeeed to see this movie, not only because I love superman...but because I think my friend John ( wow its weird calling him that because I always call him by his last name ) kinda looks like he could be Superman.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ie/2ee9re2.jpg dont mind us looking stupid. it was the end of a long night @ the phi sig sapphire ball. http://www.brandonrouth.com/gallery/...lywood_004.jpg brandon routh. |

I hope I'm not the only one here who thinks he is absolutely adorable! |

I've kind of got a thing for him, its casual. |
Your friend John doesnt look anything like the actor...
...maybe its just a bad pic? |
Quote:
Oh I wasnt saying he looks like Brandon Routh, I was saying he's got these Superman/Clark Kent qualities about him. Haha. The dark hair, super smart, glasses, prominent chin, body...maybe I should post a pic of him with his shirt off. I'm sure there's one on the boys website somewhere. hmmmmm...Sorry if I gave anyone the impression that I thought they looked like. Hahah. |

I always sit through the credits -- partly for the music; partly interest for location or music information (always at the end); partly because I figure that if I worked on a movie, I'd want somebody to see my name; and partly because you never know when they'll be an "extra something" during or after the credits, a la "Pirates of the Caribbean." |
