Cell Phone?

Can anyone recommend a good cell phone? I'm looking for a new one and I'd like one that has a camera and maybe the mp3.

Buttonz 03-28-2006 06:38 PM

What cell service?

Tom Earp 03-28-2006 06:40 PM

What happened to Just a Damn Phone?

Call Out and Get Calls In?:(

I dont care about all of the other BS!

I want to talk to People and that is all.

bamabelle99 03-28-2006 07:01 PM

I'm open to a new carrier. I have nextel right now - love the phone hate the service.

As far as all the bells and whistles - don't need a camera (I have a digital one) but it would be nice to have one on the phone for those times that I don't have my camera. I don't carry that around with me all the time like I do my phone.

As far as mp3 is concerned - I'm the only person in the world that does not own a version of the Ipod nor will I ever own one so it would be nice to have something that I can carry around with me for music.

I've looked at Verizon (which I've had before and let's just say that their customer service is far from helpful) and Suncom.

I really don't know anything about Suncom (except what the salesperson told me) - anyone have experience with them?

Re: Cell Phone?

Nokia 6102 is a good phone. Camera, mp3, internet, large display, flip phone.

Depending on where your service area is, I'd avoid Suncom. I started out with an AT&T Wireless, who sold some of its accounts to Cingular and some to Suncom. I became a Suncom customer and was NOT a fan.

I've heard good things about Verizon since they do have the best service (as in call transmission, not customer service), but I'd ask your friends in your area which is best.

_Lisa_ 03-29-2006 11:34 AM

I'd switch to a phone supported by T-Mobile. They have awesome customer service, good prices (on phones & plans), & have great worldwide coverage!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-29-2006 11:35 AM

Verizon has HORRIBLE customer service. Before I left them (oh, and I paid the $175 early terminiation fee - IT WAS WORTH IT!) they'd screwed up 5 of my last 6 bills. Each one took *many* calls to customer service - they'd bounce me around from dept to dept - AFTER I waited up to an hour on the phone.

Plus, they were constantly overcharging me - I'd just get mysteriously signed up for plans, get dropped off other plans, etc. It was a gigantic mess, and more often than not, the people who were supposed to help me figure it out were rude.

The stores were worse - you wait forever to talk to a technician about a problem with the handset, and then they tell you to come back in a day or two. It took me 2 months to get a new phone (I had insurance!) when mine was broken - they kept saying it just needed "the software updated".

Now I'm with TMobile. I def. like that they don't make you wait to talk to someone at customer service. So far, it's better actual cell service (my phone works more places) although I think I probably wouldn't care, just as long as the customer service was decent and my bill was correct.

I've heard good things about Suncom from friends that live in Richmond - I would've gone with them, but they don't have much of a presence here in D.C.

bamabelle99 03-29-2006 12:15 PM

I'm in Charlotte and I don't think we have TMobile - that I'm aware of anyway.

I've been talking to coworkers and NO ONE has Suncom - I'm taking that as a sign. Just about everyone I know has Verizon and most say they haven't had problems. I had Verizon about 5 years ago and I know about overcharging and waiting for hours to get someone in Customer Service.

It probably doesn't matter where I go - there are bound to be problems with any service.

Thanks for info!!!

_Lisa_ 03-29-2006 02:32 PM

T-Mobile shows coverage in your area:

http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/

It is worth looking into, I've been with T-Mobile for years & I don't think I'll ever change!

I thought they sold everything to Cingular, I've never even heard of Suncom.

I have the Nokia 6102, and I love it, though it doesn't have an mp3 player.

This definitely varies between areas. I've had great luck with Verizon, from buying my phone to customer service. I've been extremely happy with them and would recommend them to anyone.

DZTUBAGIRL 03-29-2006 03:49 PM

I just got a new phone a couple of months ago and I love it. I got the new Motorola SLVR L7. It is similar to the RAZR but doesn't break as easily. It has a camera and takes video and pictures. It also has a mp3 player. I have Cingular Wireless and I love it. I have had it for years and I haven't had any problems with the service.

Do you use the Metro often? I was thinking about switching to Verizon before I move because word on the street is that they're the only carrier that works underground (and I can't stand being detached from my phone for longer than 30 seconds).

This is true. I get a great signal on the metro.

Not sure about down there, but I get reception when I'm on the T (subway) here in Boston.

Underground? I get reception in certain areas with Cingular, but only around Park. I thought they decided not to put reception underground though.

Not all the time, but especially around Park Street, I can still get enough reception to make a call.

I highly recommend Alltel. I've had service with them since 2002 and LOVE them! They've always got promotions for free phones. A camera phone, however, is not going to give you decent pictures, so don't be upset if the quality isn't anywhere near your digital camera.

ETA: crzychx, coverage and service are two separate issues.

You're right. There's no T-Mobile in most of North Carolina, I'm pretty sure.

And I have Alltel now and I love it, even though some people make fun of it and say it's ghetto. It works JUST FINE for me. Of course I don't pay my own bill so what do I care?

AznSAE 03-31-2006 01:03 PM

i have the motorola razor with cingular. does the rebate take forever? i just got it in january or so and still havent gotten my $100 rebate back.

BobbyTheDon 03-31-2006 01:17 PM

get Sprint. sanyo 8200

its got everything you need. even theft deterant

and get sprint to sprint mobile , becuase even if you call nextel users it still counts as sprint to sprint mobile

valkyrie 08-24-2006 02:00 PM

Does anybody have a Samsung A900? It's time for me to upgrade and this one looks interesting, but I've never had a Samsung.

yeah, i'd recommend this too. it's stylish, thin (but not cheap), good service, mp3 player (itunes), bluetooth enabled, etc.

i'm looking at it for myself as well. :D

shinerbock 08-24-2006 07:15 PM

Yeah, I have Sprint, and its fine. It worked on the metro. Of course, the customer service people are incredibly worthless, but hey, thats every company.

Jimmy Choo 08-24-2006 07:27 PM

Stay away from Suncom no matter what Harry Conick Jr says!!!!

Senusret I 08-24-2006 07:30 PM

I have a T-mobile MDA and love it. I'll get a mini SD card in a few weeks so I can store more MP3s and pictures on it.

valkyrie 08-24-2006 07:33 PM

Hokay so never mind, I'm breaking up with Sprint. They sent me the $150 LOYALTY rebate (which should be called a $150 you're-screwed rebate) but as an existing customer I am not eligible for the $100 mail-in rebate. SO to reward my loyalty, they'd make me pay $120 for a phone that some no-loyalty-having-pussy-ass new customer would get for $80. I WILL RISE UP AND FIGHT THE INJUSTICE THAT IS HOLDING US DOWN, MY FRIENDS. I'm not havin' that shit. I'm going to spend some time this evening with the likes of Cingular and Verizon to see if they can entice me with their sexy phones and discounts Sprint cares not to share with me. JUST YOU WAIT, SPRINT. One day, you'll see me talking on my sexy pink Razr or whatever phone I end up getting that's totally cooler than what you offer and YOU'LL BE SORRY.

shinerbock 08-24-2006 07:38 PM

I like sprint, because they're stupid. I lost my phone, so I extended my contract by a couple years and they gave me one for free. A couple weeks later, I lost that phone (I drank a lot), and they let me sign another new contract (which was just another 2 year contract from that day, so I extended what I already had by like 3 weeks) and they gave me an even better phone for free.

valkyrie 08-25-2006 11:28 AM

OKAY SPRINT, I still love you. I sent them an email complaining about the rebate situation, and they're giving me the $100.

Now I'll be able to watch football on my phone. That is so sweet.

AOIIalum 08-25-2006 04:04 PM

Now, I'm one of those people who loves Verizon Wireless. Great customer service and the rare dropped call, etc. It's time to pick my next phone, and I'm seriously considering that new Chocolate phone. Anyone know someone who has it already?

valkyrie 08-25-2006 04:49 PM

I don't, but there are reviews here on cnet. This site is pretty helpful, I think.

Mz Destiny 08-25-2006 06:12 PM

I have the Motorola V360 with T-Mo. Love it!

That's good that they've changed their ways. I had Sprint during college, and they had awful customer service. I always had trouble with their phones, and they really weren't helpful at all. Maybe since the company changed they have improved.

Agreed - we both had horrific Sprint experiences in undergrad, and mine continued even after . . . if they've improved, that's awesome, because I had zero problems with the actual service, just the customer service.

I use US Cellular, which sucks pretty badly but gets me the corporate rate - I would only suggest it if you're extremely cost-conscious in the Midwest.

My current phone is a RAZR V3c - it's absolutely fantastic, great reception, lots of memory and options, and I put it through the washing machine and it still works. Very solid phone, far better than any of the other Motorola products I've seen/used (and none of the battery life issues the earlier RAZRs had - I get about 4 days of power-on time, and have never had talktime issues).

I had a similar expierence with this earlier today. My flip-phone was busted so I wanted to get a new one. I was only elgible for a $75 rebate and their cheapest phones were crap. I was able to switch to a different carrier and avoided the opt out fee and got a cheaper plan to boot. Heres a big F-U to sprint!

_Opi_ 08-28-2006 04:13 AM

I need a new phone but Tmobile doesnt have anything I like so far. I'm
considering the samsung T509, but I'd prefer a flip phone. I dont mind signing a 2 year contract with T to get more of a discount, seeing as how they've been good to me so for the past 4 years.

AlphaFrog 10-02-2006 09:54 AM

Ok...BlueTooth question...

How often do you have to charge your headset? (I have the basic Motorola one)
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...V40415069_.jpg

Do they make car chargers for the headset??

I don't believe they do make car chargers for the headset, at least I haven't seen any, but my boyfriend charges his everynight when he gets home (he is on the road a lot & attends conference calls/makes appointments while he drives.)

Buttonz 10-02-2006 10:21 PM

I have Cingular, and need a new phone pretty badly. I hven't gotten a new phone in a year.No matter what I do (extend my contact, etc) I can't get a new one until December. I've called and spoken to two differnet people, and they both told me that. I don't get it at all.

Ugh...it so makes me want to just wait till my contract runs out and go with verizion....except that I'm on my family's family plan and don't pay for my phone and eveyrone I speak to uses Cingualr

I've always had a good things to say about Sprint's Customer Care...but the people that work at the little kiosks and stores where i'm from are NOT helpful at all.

Plus Sprint's plans have gotten more expensive.

I would like a cingular, but give-me-a-break. They have that "all over network" but my all my family has it and they are paying an arm and a leg for pretty much nothing---and Cingular isn't much of a help. They told my mom she wouldn't be paying anything over like 100-$150 each month, and she's paying close to $300 and she has no idea why.

I'm thinking of getting T-Mobile. I have a cousin who works for them and LOVES their service. Plus I really want a sidekick. Anyone else have/had a sidekick and wanna share your experience with me? :D
