I sooo knew you were gonna thank Mel!

Sheila, Dani, HC, T, you know I love you my Pittsburgh gals, and this has nothing to do with the fact that Ben and the boys beat Ashley and Jason and teh boys today....

But given the fact that I've been to many a Seahawks games in the summers I split between Foxboro and such...and it kinda helps that my bio sisters live in Bellevue....me gots to cheer on the other team.

It'll be a great freaking game in Detroit...that's for sure.

kddani 01-23-2006 07:24 AM

Seattle is one of my absolute favorite cities. Congrats to them for making it to their first Super Bowl. How long has Seattle had a team?

But the way the Steelers are playing, it'll be the Steelers' game to lose. Though they're actually favored in the Vegas odds, which is a bit different because they've been the underdogs most of the season.

In all honestly, I know nothing about the Seahawks so I can't give a good opinion. But I can't wait!

KillarneyRose 01-23-2006 08:25 AM

Like kdonline's gotta root for her new hometown team, I must always root for my once and always hometown team...

LET'S GO STEELERS!!!

Go Seahawks!!

33girl 01-23-2006 09:37 AM

GO STEELERS GO.

I do have one question. I recall Seattle's uniforms being a much more attractive and a blue/green combo. Now they are...steel blue with chartreuse accents? When did this occur?

As far as us not being the "underdog" I think they have to look at it this way...everyone who is putting the Steelers ahead isn't doing it because they think we are good, they're doing it because they think we suck less than the Seahawks. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who think the Colts or Pats should be in this and we just were the recipient of lots of lucky breaks.

I don't know about that. The Pats were obviously flawed all year, and the Colts...well, they have Peyton Manning, who is putting together quite a history of playoff chokes.

Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has an excellent defense, a very good running game, good receivers, and a quarterback who doesn't make many mistakes. Plus, Jerome Bettis has become this year's "Never won a Super Bowl but hope he wins one this year" guy.

I know everyone likes to play the underdog angle, but really, neither of these teams should feel slighted.

For the record, I'm picking Pittsburgh.

Sister Havana 01-23-2006 10:08 AM

I wonder if SmartBlondeGPhB is making preparations to head to Detroit. :D

I looked at the rosters and noticed that both teams have an IU quarterback on the roster! We all know Antwaan Randle El, of course, but I didn't realize Gibran Hamdan (who was ARE's backup and then started for IU in 2002) was on the Seahawks roster.

I've never known who said it, but I've always believed that "On any given Sunday..." any team in the NFL can beat any other team. It isn't always likely, but possible.

If the Steelers play like they have on the road, and particularly as they have the past couple of weekends, I think it will be a long day for Seattle on SuperBowl Sunday.

But, you never know.

On any Sunday...

My exhusband is from Seattle (well, Puyallup).

As if I didn't need reason enough to go for One for the Thumb!!

KunjaPrincess 01-23-2006 11:40 AM

GO SEAHAWKS

Well, I am originally from the Boston area so my favorite team has to be the Pats but since they are no longer a contender I have to say ...

GO SEAHAWKS

AznSAE 01-23-2006 12:08 PM

i am still rooting for the seahawks.

valkyrie 01-23-2006 12:37 PM

Well, I was wrong on both teams, but hey. Although I like Seattle, I'm going with the Steelers.

fire1977 01-23-2006 12:56 PM

All I have to say is GO STEELERS!

"we're from the town with the great football team..."

Nice picture of Myron, KR.

HBADPi 01-23-2006 12:59 PM

wow for once I called both teams...I have to root for the Steelers on this one.

KSig RC 01-23-2006 01:39 PM

RC is currently 7-3 in the playoffs . . . I say give the points, take the Steelers.

The Seahawks have the best o-line in football, but I'm not sure their receivers can get loose enough to really exploit the PIT secondary - I mean, if Denver couldn't, I doubt the 'hawks can. That leaves PIT able to put the 'seven-and-a-half' in the box w/ Polamalu . . . we know how this ends, don't we?

Jill1228 01-23-2006 02:39 PM

GO SEAHAWKS!

Hey SmartBlonde, ya need someone hang with ya in Detroit? ya know I am 1.5 hours away! :D

Optimist Prime 01-23-2006 03:34 PM

Go Seahawks.

I guess.

Yeah, go Seahawks.

OTW: Of COURSE I'd thank her! She's part of the reason why I fell in love w/ our Hawks so quickly.

And as to why she hasn't posted yet.. I think she's trying to register for the season ticket holder lottery for Superbowl tix! (at ~$650 each!)

33girl: the uniforms changed several years ago. SmartBlonde can give you the scoop (as she patiently answers every question I have about the team). I prefer the new look to the old! Leave the aqua to my old hometown team, the Miami Dolphins.

I don't know who to cheer for. Seattle is so straight West Coastin, but Killarny is all about the Burgh.

I just don't know

Seattle has 1 more trojan than Pittsburgh. Does that mean you go for Seattle?

I don't know why, but I love this picture. It pumps me up and wishes LA or someone close to us has a football team.

At first glance, I though it was T.O. lol (the bird on the helmet...looks like an 8 and a 1 jersey)

I WISH......

Unfortunately I can't afford the inflated ebay prices and the flights and the hotel prices and my name didn't get picked in the lottery of season ticket holders.

Look at it this way Bobby.....

If it hadn't been for Paul Allen, the Seahawks would be an LA team right now. Behring had the HQ moved.

SmartBlondeGPhB 01-24-2006 05:05 PM

Actually season ticket holders didn't have to sign up, they were automatically entered in the lottery and it happened yesterday. The tickets are the cheap part of the trip.......there's still the hotel and the airfare.

Their uniforms changed when they moved in Qwest Field. They used to be bright blue/bright green accents and now they are navy/grey blue/green accents. It's funny how people always mention the green and there's so very little of it in their uniforms. A line on the sleeve and a green eye on the hawk. I barely even notice it. Of course, they sell stocking caps in that green which are a bit more noticeable.

I will say I'm already looking forward to next year.......:D

When there is no run game to speak of due to their top three backs being out it was kind of easy. Carolina is a run first team and without able bodies they were pretty one dimensional from the start. Chicago and New York had to respect the run and Carolina would get some big plays when they needed to through the air but Delhomme isn't good enough to get things done on his own.

I've got a sofa bed.. :)

(I also know the manager of the host hotel for the NFL, but I don't have tickets to anything...)

BUT, I'm rooting for the Steelers. After all, Jerome is a home town boy. They keep interviewing his mom on the news and she's so excited that he's coming HOME for the Super Bowl. She's cute.

honeychile 01-25-2006 12:36 AM

FWIW, there are SO many songs out about the Steelers, but more importantly - the one teaches you how to say Palamalu's name properly! The bad part is, the music is somewhat like those mindless jingles you hear that stay on your mind all day long...!!

BTW, Dee, I think you could make a case that we're even going to be IN the Super Bowl because of Jerome!! He has truly become one of this town's Favorite Sons in the past years, and the team always "gives" the wins to him! And his mama IS cute!

LOL - I researched to find out that the Steelers have one Gator and the Seahawks have two!

So, all the more reason for Gators to root for the Seahawks - we have twice as many!!

Last week, Mike Webster (from the 70's teams) waltzed into the radio station I listen to, and the djs started giving him grief for not wearing any black & gold or such. He reached into his pocket, and like so many dice, rolled his four Super Bowl rings onto the console and said, "I think these say it all." Then, he let everyone there try them all on!

I would have killed to have seen that!

That was my first thought as well - actually, I'd heard that he didn't have the rings anymore when he passed, because he had descended into poverty.
