I hate to say this, but...

AOIIAlum, you know that I love you, but darling, did I mention that Vandy beat UK last night for the first time ever in Rupp? And that it had been years (31 or 28?) since they beat UK at home?

First, Vandy beat UTK in football at UTK; then, Vandy beat UK at Rupp....It makes one wonder if someone succeeded in crossing pigs and chickens in a genetics lab.
;)
Silver

(Sorry...just couldn't resist...Mr. Silver and I have taken a verbal lashing for years, decades..really..from the UK fans in our lives...)

Edited to change years...

NeonPi 01-11-2006 06:34 PM

Why, I do believe that I hear the musical notes of "Duelling Banjos" in the air....:p

AOIIalum 01-12-2006 08:53 AM

Ouch, Silver, to kick a girl when she's down :)

We're knee-deep into what could quite possibly be the most painful basketball season since the years of The Unforgettables at UK. Something is wrong, W-R-O-N-G at Kentucky, and they darned well better get it fixed now. I've had quite enough of this silliness, although, to be fair, I think it's going to hurt a lot more before it's all over this year.

Oh, and it was 31 years between wins for y'all ;)

Sorry, just couldn't resist. You know that I love and appreciate you!
Thanks, I thought is was 31 years. One of the newscasters said 28, so I thought that I might have missed it....
The commentator said that it has been 83 years since Vandy beat both UTK and UK at home in their respective sports. Wow.
:)

Please pardon the crash.

To AOIIsilver - Congratulations to Vandy on their first win at Rupp Arena. Now please do not let it happen again.

To AOIIalum - I want you to know that I've got your back. If it gets heated here, let me know and I'll see if I can whip out some UK versus VU basketball game statistics for your use.

Waiting for redemption come February 11th at Memorial Gym

GO CATS!

OleMissGlitter 01-12-2006 03:53 PM

I'm sure you both will find redemption when you play Ole Miss!!!

I hope you are right regarding UK. However, as AOIIalum pointed out, this is turning out to be a not-so-good season. Who knows, perhaps this will be the start of one of those amazing turnarounds for the Cats.

AOIIalum 01-12-2006 04:33 PM

TS, you know you can crash here any time.

OMG, don't hold your breath. At this point, we need another Mardi Gras miracle, only we don't have time to wait that long! Maybe this Saturday in Tuscaloosa?

Silver, I know because I adore you too! I really can't even blame you for it, either. Just wait though, the skies will re-align and we will go back to our regularly scheduled Vandy beating ways soon :)

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. However, I would if it meant a win. And who knows, I might turn a nice shade of UK Blue!

By the way, the Bama game is at Rupp this Saturday. But given our last couple of home games, I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.

AOIIalum 01-12-2006 06:10 PM

Oh well, wherever it is, it too is live on CBS. Go Cats!

TSteven 01-12-2006 08:30 PM

Lucky us, we get the Villanova at Texas broadcast out here on the west coast.

However, the sports bar we (UK Alumni and Wildcat Fans) go to for our game watches will pick up the CBS East feed for us. By the way, we usually have at least around 20 to 30 Kentucky Wildcat fans there - even for this 10 a.m. (Pacific) tip-off. Sometimes as many as 50!

And best of luck to Vandy and Ole Miss this weekend as well.

Quick question:
Why use, "Go Cats," instead of, "Go Kats"?

Silver

AOIIalum 01-12-2006 08:59 PM

Quick Answer :)
Because that's the way we do it! Go Cats!

Well, instead of pulling a victory from the jaws of defeat, today we managed to pull a defeat from the jaws of victory. Sheesh.

OleMissGlitter 01-14-2006 10:04 PM

Oh smack, Ole Miss beat Miss State today! 75-65! It was a great game!

AOIIalum 01-15-2006 09:56 AM

My dear sister, basketball is the most important thing, followed closely by SEC football. ;)

AOIIalum 01-15-2006 10:34 PM

Kentucky Basketball, NCAA Basketball, Kentucky Football, SEC Football and then general NCAA football.

Guess this isn't the time to bring up my NHL Hockey fandom, huh? :D

AOIIalum 01-15-2006 11:40 PM

What do the years 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 have to do with Kentucky athletics? They are the years that Kentucky won the national cheerleading championship, the latest one being won tonight!

That's another 3 in a row, 11 of the last 12 and 15 overall. Go Cats!

Woo hoo! I simply adore watching the UK cheerleaders. It is a dream-come-true to be a UK cheerleader!

And to add insult to injury (actually, I'm not sure if this was a good thing or not) CBS pulled the feed from DirectTV so we weren't able to get the game locally at our sports bar. We even got a call from an alum to who use to live here and now lives in New York City to see if we were getting the game.

So for the two hours, over twenty of us set around following the game via the score ticker on other telecasts and getting updates off the internet.

What's the world coming to ...

first the UTenn men beat the UK men in basketball and then
the UK women beat the UTenn women ...

Edited to correct ... (thanks TSteven) ... it was the Vandy men not UTenn ... I guess my rememberer isn't working ...

I think the world is upside down .. I guess Tucson should start expecting snow ... :-)

UK and UT have yet to play in men's basketball this season. It was Vandy that had the honors.

UK Hoops Notebook - Women Make History

"Wildcats one of only four unranked teams in NCAA history to defeat a No. 1 team: With its 66-63 win over top-ranked Tennessee Thursday evening, Kentucky became one of only four unranked teams in women’s basketball history to defeat a No. 1 team."

I bet we aren't unranked for long!

Did Vandy beat UK AGAIN?

Are my eyes deceiving me? Did Vandy beat UK AGAIN?

AOIIalum 02-12-2006 05:33 PM

You know it's sad when Vandy tried repeatedly to hand us the game on a silver platter, but yet again, we snatched another loss from the jaws of victory. The best recap of the game is courtesy of alt.sports.college.sec.kentucky, mildly offensive language and all:

TSteven 02-16-2006 05:00 PM

Ok, I'll say it. Vandy owns UK. At least this season.

Now y'all had better hope that UK and Vandy do not meet in the SEC come March. Otherwise, we might just up and give y'all another win! ;)

TSteven 03-17-2006 09:16 PM

Dang. Just saw this. Oh well, I'm sure it's for the best that I missed it since I'm not doing so well. I'm sure y'all know who I have going all the way!

CATS! CATS! CATS!

GEAUX TIGERS!!!!

I cannot believe that that we beat Duke. Even if my Bayou Bengals don't get to the Final Four, I am happy.

AOIIalum, I don't know how I missed the pool but maybe next time.

AOIIalum 03-24-2006 08:09 AM

Definitely next year on the pool! Trust me when I said it was the first and last time I'd ever cheer for LSU, but Duke must die (and they did!!!!)

Complete hijack: One year St. Valentine's Day fell on Bacchus Sunday. We had friends, two of Mr. aopirose's fraternity brothers & their wives, in town. The guys told us that they had something special planned. I can't begin to tell you how ticked we, the wives, were when we pulled up to the race track!

Anyway, it became wives vs. husbands. They had a "system" that involved pedigree, the weather, etc. Our system was the cuteness of names, silk color combinations, and the like. The wives ended up $100 ahead!

aopirose 03-25-2006 09:11 PM

Our first trip to the Final Four in 20 years!

ETA: For the men that is and our women's team is still going strong too! Geaux Pokey and the Lady Tigers!!!!!!

Fan? LSU? You? Huh? But...but...but...THAT'S not supposed to happen! It doesn't work that way. LSU bad! FLORIDA good! (Heading off to hide far, far away from Tania ;))

Seriously, now that we've all had our laugh for the night. I'm all about a Florida-LSU title game. Especially when Florida wins.
