New Gap commercial w/ Sarah Jessica

The Talbot's thread made me think of this...

Does anyone else adore the new "Pretty Khaki" Gap ad with Sarah Jessica Parker singing "I Enjoy Being a Girl"? I don't particularly like the Gap's clothes, but that commercial so darn cute! If only it weren't 30 degrees and snowy outside, I too would put on a pink shirt, khakis, and dance around with flowers.

I know- that's why I had the smiley faces. (Also I've been really sarcastic this morning) Thank you for the link.

Am I the only one who doesn't think SJP is attractive? I feel guilty about this because from what I've heard/read she seems like a really nice person. But she just doesn't pass my "Tori Spelling Test" **

**Asking oneself "would I want to have this person's fabulous body if I had to take her face as well?"

No. She looked better before all the SATC/"fashion icon" nuttiness. The bob she had at one point was hideous.

RedRoseSAI 03-11-2005 06:51 PM

I agree that she's not what's considered classically attractive, but I think that's part of why I like her. She's got an interesting face, and hasn't tried to change it to fit Hollywood's mold (much like Barbara Streisand).

winneythepooh7 03-11-2005 07:14 PM

I love Sarah Jessica and the girls even though many people I know make fun of them and all the SATC hype. I bought a pair of cute pink mocassins in the Gap the other day and never heard the end of it from my boyfriend who kept saying "the only reason you bought them is so you can look like Carrie". No, I bought them cuz I like them so STFU!!! I do think the commerical is cute though. I don't shop there too much though (or anywhere these days really) due to limited funds unfortunately.

roqueemae 03-12-2005 01:57 AM

I love gap. I have worked for the company (Old Navy, Gap, Gap Kids) for 5 years. The discounts are great. I can't leave them behind. Right now I only work 5 hours a week. But I get 20% at Old Navy and 30% at Gap and Banana Republic.

I agree. I think her personality adds to her beauty too. I like that sassy cute girly girl thing. Only she could get away with singing "I enjoy being a girl". Her hair looks great...much better than in the new Nutrisse commercial...she can't do brunette.

ZTAMich 03-12-2005 11:19 AM

The commercial is cute, I enjoy it. The print ads are great too! Love SJP.

Xylochick216 03-12-2005 01:38 PM

I always love GAP commercials. I think SJP looks amazing in these spring pretty khaki commercials, too. Even my fiance and coworkers (who all say she looks like a horse) think she looks great in them. This commercial makes me want to run on the street wearing pink and khaki and throw flowers ;)

KarenC725 03-12-2005 08:22 PM

I got so sucked in by the commercial that I bought the blazer and the pants she wears towards the end! Granted, they haven't been tailored to *perfectly* fit my body like they did to hers before filming but once I see my tailor they will be the right length. Cute line this spring which surprised me since I haven't found anything that impressive there for a long time.

Gap Inc is doing alot to adjust their lines to fit the population. I remember a few years ago some of the stuff that was there was very edgy. Gap is supposed to be about classics and wardrobe staples. The mix and match vibe they are using right now is great.

They are apparently launching a new store that gears to women who are a bit "older".

I wonder what they will call it? What type of clothes are marketed to "over 35"? Petite Sophisticate type stuff?

I think it's really for people who are 40+, not "over 35" as the article says. Another article said that it was for "Baby boomers", which means people born between 1946 and 1964.

So...Talbot's?

(And the thread is back from whence it came. Ah, the circle of life...)

tinydancer 03-17-2005 12:48 AM

I must have seen that Gap commercial 10 times today. I agree that SJP does not look good as a brunette.

GeoffZ 03-17-2005 03:15 AM

From NY Post:

She stole the show at the Grammys, and now it seems blond Brit Joss Stone is stealing the Gap ads from Sarah Jessica Parker. Gap spokesman Sean Krebs confirmed to PAGE SIX's Lisa Marsh that the sexy soul siren is its new spokesbabe. "We are shooting her in Los Angeles this week for the summer 2005 television campaign," Krebs said. "Joss Stone will be prominently featured and we are very excited." The ads hit the airwaves on April 28.

I like Joss, but you can't beat SJP.

hottytoddy 03-17-2005 05:03 AM

OK I like SJP,but c'mon "pretty khaki?"

Those two words don't belong together. I don't care who is wearing it. Khaki will never be pretty.

They are trying to make khaki feminine and flirty instead of boring and drab. It's a great idea to sell it...but I don't buy it.

Haha, I totally agree with you, hottytoddy. But, I looooove the commercial. I always have to stop everything I'm doing to watch it. I know...sounds kinda pathetic. :(

roqueemae 03-17-2005 11:51 PM

That is the same thing I think when I hear people talking about khaki pants being badge attire. I know there are khaki colored pants that are nice, but I think of khaki pants being made of that material.

KatieKate1244 03-18-2005 12:16 AM

I think SJP is okay, but I don't think she makes the best spokesperson for the Gap. She's kinda funny looking. Also, she's known for her personal style which seems to be "out there" for lack of a better term. Gap has nice clothes, but they're more classic in style. I'm not sure about using Joss Stone as a spokeswoman. I really like her, but not a lot of people really know her yet.

JupiterTC 03-18-2005 12:56 AM

Now that I have seen this thread, the song is stuck in my head.

"I enjoy being a girl..."

I don't think it really matters. GAP didn't use celeb spokespeople until recently.

Like in the last few years. I don't recall anyone famous in GAP ads until Glenn Close (she was before Madonna, right?).

33girl 03-18-2005 11:56 AM

There's been famous people in Gap ads for like 15 years.

Hmmm, didn't realize that. I don't seem to recognize the models in the Gap ads from the 90s. I do recall Sharon Stone wearing a Gap turtleneck to the Oscars in '96 or so, though.

I got the update today in a newletter for employees. Finally. Employees shouldn't be the last to know if you ask me.

And I love SJP. I was watching Sex in the City on TBS last night and was thinking how pretty she is. Then that got me upset about this thread.

xo_kathy 03-22-2005 03:45 PM

From Yahoo:

LONDON (Reuters) - British soul singer Joss Stone and her music will be featured in new advertising for Gap Inc. as the retailer replaces "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker for its summer advertising campaign.

Gap said late on Monday it would use models and Stone to sell its white denim line.

Devon-born Stone, 17, earned three Grammy Award nominations, including one for best new artist, and scored two of the 50 best-selling albums in the world last year with EMI's "The Soul Sessions" and "Mind, Body & Soul."

San Francisco-based Gap originally signed Parker in mid-2004 to a three-season contract, which it said was the first multi-season deal it had ever signed with a celebrity. She appeared in Gap ads from fall 2004 through spring 2005.

"While Gap will always seek partnerships with celebrities, musicians and rising stars, we don't have any future plans to sign a single person to a multi-season deal like the unique and special relationship we enjoyed with Sarah Jessica," the company said in a statement.

Is the song "I like being a girl" an actual song? And if so, what is it from?

Thanks!

sugar and spice 03-23-2005 07:02 PM

"I Enjoy Being a Girl" is from the musical Flower Drum Song.

I know this is wishful thinking, but I'd love BR to expand its sizes. They would make a mint of money. Old Navy is a bit youngish for me. Maybe this 35-plus concept may have expanded sizing.

roqueemae 03-24-2005 01:20 AM

Old Navy is doing "Women's Plus" which is a little less teenager-y and in expanded sizes.
