What do you pay a month in car payments?
In the spirit of the rent/mortgage threads, I wanted to see how I'm doing compared to other people in terms of car payments.
I bought a brand new 2004 Toyota Corolla S in June, and I'm paying $257/month (including gap insurance). My car is beautiful, red, but the only extra I got on it was the upgraded sound system. It's the one on the commercial where the guys are fighting over who gets to ride in it. I'd just be curious to see what other people are paying for their cars (those that are still making payments, of course). |
I just bought a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica because of the fact I had a baby and a 00 Trans Am wasnt a family car! Thanks to my mother paying cash for it, I dont have to pay anything but insurance which is 367.00 a month!
|
Holy crap! $367 for insurance?! Wow. I'll never complain about my car insurance again.

$259.66 for the car payment, $317.00 a month for the insurance. Yeah, that's most of y'all's rent.
|
01 VW Jetta GLS....car payment $298.
I think my insurance is like $130. |
oh please, ya'll got nothing on me..
2004 maxima $512 monthly payment (4 years to go) $212 insurance monthly |
Nothing. My car's been paid off for a couple years. :D
However, when I did have the payment, it was around $284/monthly. I have a 1997 Saturn SC1. |

Oh, my gosh. It must just be the city I'm in, but my insurance is HIGH compared to most other people's, and I pay $90/month. And THAT's because I have a speeding ticket and rear-ended people. Otherwise, it probably would be around $30. Most people around here pay what y'all are paying for 6 months.
ETA: I was looking at a Maxima before I had to buy my Corolla quickly. I was actually looking at the Maxima and the Celica (I know, way different cars), but I didn't have time enough to save up a down payment... I didn't realize monthly payments on the Maxima were that high! I guess this is partially why I wanted to start this thread, though... I wouldn't trade my Corolla for anything in the world (well, maybe a Mercedes), but it's nice to know that my car payments help me like my decision. |
$298 for the car and $106 for the insurance.
|
Ok so I think my parents lied to me...
I don't have car payments b/c we jsut wrote a check for the full amount at the time of buying it...but my mom is trying to tell me that b/c of my new car my insurance is $3000/year, up from $1500 before. How is that possible when everyone else's insurance is in the hundreds of dollars? Or am I just completely stupid and that's a monthly payment for you guys? I am confused. :o |

some of yall are lucky as crap:
2001 vw VR6 $411; insurance $214. |
$167.50 for a 2004 hyundai sonata....5 more month away til it is paid for
i pay way to much for auto insurance! so california rates are outragious! |
I don't have a car payment since the car was purchased in full. My insurance runs me about $100 per month.

P.S.-One of the reasons my insurance is low is because I have renter's insurance on my apartment also through State Farm... My father pays $35/month on my Mom's 2000 VW Jetta b/c he has multiple cars. State Farm gives deductions for more than one insurance line under the same policy (household). |
2003 VW Jetta GLX w vr6 and every available option and no money down $505
Insurance $219 |
$262 a month for a black 2004 Dodge Neon. My parents pay my insurance because they paid my older sister's up until she got married (at age 35), so thank goodness for that. :p I'm trying to refinance and get my payments lowered, though...wish me luck.
Edited to add: My family does the State Farm thing, too--all four of our vehicles are insured with them, and we get some sort of discount. |
when i had a 2001 Toyota Celica, the monthly payment was $458. i have a 2004 Honda Accord now and the monthly payment is just slightly lower, but i rather not say what it is.
|
How much was some of your vehichles?? Mine was 34,900 and we got it down to 32,500 paying cash when we purchased it.
|
bumping this
... because i recently acquired a car, and i dont know much about car insurance.
my Geico quote is $141. the car is a 92 Ford Tempo (hey its old but its my first car!). is that reasonable? |
Is that for the year or 6 months? Either way sounds like a great deal from GEICO who can usually be the most expensive behind Progressive.

... actually that's $141/month... (NY insurance IS supposed to be expensive right?) |
2005 Honda Civic VP (that means value package ppl lol) its standard, cd player, and air conditioning... roll down windows, manual locks, nothing fancy (but the stereo is actually pretty good and it's a beast and I get 40 miles to a gallon)
I pay $250 a month, but usually there are late fees because I never have the money to pay it on time. My insurance is like $250/ month. |
Car's paid for. But insurance runs me a little over $600 every six months.

2006 Toyota Camry costs me $340 a month. Insurance is $80.
|
Wow. I pay the car off in October @ $250/month (I've been overpaying, I think it's like $225/month).
My insurance is $67/month. |

Wow...mine's only $50/month for full coverage. I also don't have anything left on my record. My only incidents have been an accident at 16 (not my fault) and a speeding ticket at 17. KNOCK.ON.WOOD.
I have a 2004 Chevy Tracker. My payments are about $235/month. |
I lease a 2007 Saturn Vue. My payment is $249/month. I can't recall what the insurance is per month.
|
I drive a Toyota Highlander for $531/month - car payment only. That's because I traded in a 2005 Yukon that I was upside down in because the resale value of those stupid things has dropped so much. My car insurance (which covers two vehicles + homeowner's insurance) is $197 a month...for my individual vehicle it's about $65 a month.
|
I drive a 2005 Honda Civic (DH's old car) $450 CDN a month
DH drives a 2007 Toyota Tundra $519 USD/month The 2001 Kia Spectra is paid off (I did that right before we moved) Insurance for all 3 is $167/month (the first 2 are full coverage, the last car is only liability). Funny: It cost $100 more a year to insure the Civic than it does for the brand new Tundra. |
270/month for the car
90/month for the insurance I can't wait until the car is paid off in December. I just hope my string of good luck with the car doesn't end in December. |
$530 for Saab 93 Turbo

live in NYC (well, Westchester, so NYS) no driving record (first car, licensed a little under a year) i believe it is full coverage iwas quoted for (i checked off every box except rental reimbursement) had no need for prior coverage since it's my first time ive needed coverage with all that said, i figured insurance would be expensive. but i'm not sure what "expensive" would be. and its an old car, so i thought that would balance it out. i dunno... |
I have a lease on a 2007 Honda Civic, I pay about $312/mo. (Don't get fooled by the commercial prices, there's a reason they say: FOR QUALIFIED CUSTOMERS ONLY, lol)
My insurance is about $120/mo, which is pretty good considering I still have "activity" on my driving record. I can't help that I've got places to go, and I take the speed limit as a suggestion and not law. :p |
i have an 04 ford taurus, $300/mo, insurance is $120...
hubby has an 04 audi A4, $350, damn near $250 in insurance, he has i think 7 tickets hes gotten since we met almost 5 years ago . he just needs to slow down. oh, and stop hitting people! |
