Delta badge on eBay
Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta,
I just wanted to let you know there is a DST badge on eBay. It is, supposedly, from the estate of Colin Powell's sister-in-law. I don't know how true that is, but I know that my Fraternity is trying very hard to keep our badges off eBay and me and my systers buy up as many as we can to keep them 'in the family'. I know you feel the same way and I hope one of you is lucky enough to win this auction. The URL for the auction is: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...item=324530566 Fraternally, Barbara Forbes-Lyons Zeta Tau Alpha alumna [This message has been edited by PnguinTrax (edited May 04, 2000).] |
Sorors,
As of 2:29pm central time the highest bid was $5 for the pin. There is a picture of it and info about how the seller obtained it. There is 6 days and 9 hours remaining on this item. I am not a user of ebay and this is my first time to go to the website. Just keeping you posted. |
Sorors and Friends,
I have been a silent reader for a couple of days now. I have a question about the chapter guard. The seller says that the guard is a Howard University guard. Is it me or does that guard clearly say AX (Alpha Chi). Or, is the picture of a different Pin? |
You are right!! I saw that also, and mentioned to C&C, but that is supposed to be the pin that they are trying to sell. Maybe they received incorrect info on the pin, and is repeating what they were told. OR they could just be trying to make the pin seem to have a more significant value than it really does. AX...isn't that the chapter at Tennessee State?
|
FYI: Currently: $51.00 Time left: 5 days, 6 hours
It is said, that you need to contact the seller if you have any questions about the piece. So, if you have registered with eBay, you can find out the address to do so. [This message has been edited by Ms.CrimsonCream (edited May 05, 2000).] |
For those of you who are/were interested the piece is currently going for $10.50. (Bid increment:$0.50, so the minimum bid now is $11.00) There is 5 days, 12 hours + left in the bidding.
The link that is listed in PnguinTrax initial post is a working link. Sorors, if you are interested in the article, why? <-- just friendly conversation http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
Has anyone here bidded on this item? Or registered with ebay? I just want to know what they (the seller)had going through their mind when they wrote this description.

Has anyone figured out what is up with the AX??? Anyhoo, you still have 3 days, 9 hrs+ @ the bid of $51.00, for those of you who are interested. [This message has been edited by Ms.CrimsonCream (edited May 21, 2000).] |
Until I saw this, I didn't realize that items such as these could end up in the "wrong" hands. I went to eBay site and did a search on all BGLO's. Apparently, we are not the only one's with items with our name up for bidding, as the AKA's have a couple of pins for sale. Most of the other greek items appeared to be handmade or home decorations with the letters on it. I read in the general forum on this same issue, the posts basically said that this type of sell is not illegal. I just wish that something could be done.
|
I checked EBay out also, bid still at $51.00, I hope it returns to the Sorority. I thank you for the heads up.
|
Ms.CrimsonCream:
Soror, I just bidded on this item and apparently it was higher than that $51 dollars. If I end up with it, I'll let you know if it matches the description. I just feel that it should stay within the Delta family. |
It should stay in the family. But if it doesn't, there isn't anything that can be done about it.
Right now, the bid is $66.99 (Is that from you RedAngel?) 1 day 1 hr to go. I hope you do get it. The information about the pin (it being from Howard) has been corrected, though. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Ms.CrimsonCream (edited May 09, 2000).] |
You are certainly right---all you can do is try and the 66.99 bid amount is my bid. Even though the information has been corrected--it's the principal of the thing. I'll keep you all informed and if/when I get it I'll let you know.

Does this anger any of you as much as it does me? With "crossing the sands" still fresh on my mind, it just makes me sick to think that someone would sell something so dear to so many women...something that so many of us had to work so hard to get, and work hard every day to live up to the ideals that this pin symbolizes. This makes me very, very sad
Also, to Barbara Forbes-Lyons, THANK YOU for looking out for something that is so priceless to us. We really appreciate your alert [This message has been edited by Deltaluv (edited May 10, 2000).] |
Has the bidding finally ended and did you (Red Angel) end up with the highest bid....?
|
As of 9:30 pm (MST) the bidding wars had 22 minutes and the pin was going for $72.50. I believe that Soror Red Angel has the higest bid, I am not sure.
RedAngel, let us know if you were able to beat all others out. |
I think my bid was the high bid. I just the seller an e-mail this morning. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something back!
|
Sorors, something really needs to be done about this. I know once before that e-bay sold our pin. National headquarters was contacted and I am not sure what happened after that. I know that only permited vendors are allowed to sell anything with Delta Sigma Theta on it and they have to be approved by national. We as collective organizations need to get together so something can be done. I also saw a ritual book for Order of Eastern Star on there once before. I told my aunt and mother who are both OES and they had a fit. So we are not the only ones they are hitting. Well I hope a soror is the one that purchased the pin.

Well, we don't know the full story as to why the pin was sold from the estate. Maybe the owner passed away without stating what she wanted done with these items, and the family sold the things no one wanted or needed. I am curious what prompted this seller on eBay to purchase it. Had they seen other items being auctioned off at a high price because the members of the organizations wanted to "keep it in the family", and it was a quick way to make money?? I wonder how much the person actually paid at the estate sale.
Just remember, the pin, knowing the secrets, having the books, or whatever else, will NEVER make you a member of Delta! These things, if possessed, might seem to have its benefits to a person who isn't committed to the actual cause, but they are found out sooner or later. Also, remember that there are non members who have access to all of these items on the daily basis (workers at HQ). Yes, these items are important and held dear to those of us who are members, but it goes deeper than this. |
Yes, as an Eastern Star, we hear about all sorts of things: rituals given away, thrown away, sold, auctioned, etc, but, as you all say, it's not just about the tangible things- it's about the Spirit.

I just want everybody to know that I was able to beat everybody out for that pin. I made contact with the seller and I'm in the process of obtaining the item. It's staying in the family!
|
Congrats on obtaining the pin soror!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
|
Congratulations Soror! That is truly great news!
|
CONGRATULATIONS SOROR!!
I am so grateful that you obtained the pin and that it is able to stay in the DELTA family where it belongs!! |
Thank you so much, Soror! I think I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate your effort in keeping what's rightfully ours in the Delta Family.
|
Congrats to Delta Sigma Theta for keeping what was rightfully theirs in their family.
From those of us who aren't!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by gypsy (edited May 16, 2000).] |
Just wanted to give everybody an update on the ebay pin.
I received it mid-June and its in excellent condition. RedAngel |
Congratulations on retrieving the Delta Pin from unworthy and unreliable hands, especially from anyone who does not bear the name of Delta Sigma Theta! Once again, Congratulations.
|
Praise the Lord!
