Nascar

Just wondered if anyone is a big Nascar fan or am I the only one? We jsut got back from the races on Monday and had a great time.

If you like Nascar who is your fave driver and why?

I am a Jamie McMurray and Elliott Sadler fan. I like a bunch of them cause I have met several at races and talked with them, so its hard to choose a fave, but those are my 2 faves right now. Jamie is a great driver, even if he doesnt win, hes the nicest person youll ever meet or hang out with. I hung out with him last week and had a blast. Elliott has a lot of potential to be great and I see him as slowly getting better and better...

Im not a big fan of the people who are very rude to fans and snobby and just act better than everyone....

lindsay_iu 06-02-2004 12:13 AM

I love NASCAR!

I was disappointed in the outcome of Sunday's race though. Not a huge Johnson/Hendrick fan at all. But at least my guy, Dale Jr., is still in the points lead.

vanda 06-02-2004 04:23 PM

I am a true blue DEI fan. I love Jr and Mikey Waltrip. I also like Kevin "yip Yap" Harvick. The one I really hate? The 97 Car Kurt Busch. Have you caught Nascar 360 on FX? And the spike channel had many nascar themed shows during the month of May.

DeltAlum 06-02-2004 04:27 PM

Aren't they the guys (NASCAR) who only turn left?

Personally, I've always liked road races. But then I grew up driving sports cars.

PhiPsiRuss 06-02-2004 04:35 PM

NASCAR wants to build a race track in NYC. Seems as strange as the time I saw two women, dressed like they were Amish, walking in TriBeCa.

AlphaSigOU 06-02-2004 05:04 PM

NASCAR:

Non-Activity Sport Centered Around Rednecks! :) ;) :D :p

Gimme the Indy 500, Formula 1 and road racing any day! ;) :) :D

WTF? Why would NASCAR want to build a race track in NYC? That would be some expensive urban renewal, since you need lotsa real estate for an auto racetrack...

They're looking at Staten Island. There is no way that NASCAR could afford to do it anywhere else in the city.

The land is mostly marshland and they would have to be a huge environmental cleanup. I doubt it will fly anytime soon even though Bruton Smith and the Frances have been in talks about going 50 50 into the development.

That's funny. I gotta remember that.

ADPiShannan 06-02-2004 08:39 PM

well count me as a redneck and proud of it. I go to a ton of Nascar races each year. We tail gate, drink, have a BLAST. It is the best time.

As I just got back from Lowes this week, my husband and I were there for 12 days and had a blast partying and watching the races, plus we met a lot of cool drivers.

Give me Nascar anyday. Im addicted.

360 is a pretty ok show. Ive caught it a few times now. Harvick makes me laugh.

AXO Alum 06-02-2004 09:37 PM

All I can say is that I have an ORANGE cat named TWENTY!!!

I totally LOVED the race on Sunday -- we actually made a big long drive into Charlotte early in the morning, and didn't get home till the next morning. BUT - the tickets were in the Clubhouse Suites, and $193 for FREE!! Indoor, AC, comfy seats, NO SMOKING, and a great view from the start/finish line! I could see Tony's pit right in front of me, and a great view of the whole track.

Like him or not, Jimmie totally deserved that win. His car was the hottest I have ever seen any car at a race! Heck, after Jr. got his lap back, it only took about 15 laps and JJ was already 3/4 of the track ahead of him. If that race had stayed green the whole time, I honestly think that JJ would have lapped everyone. He was that good!

And the cake, icing, and sprinkles for me....

[1) CRYING Ryan blowed up!!! YEE-HAW!!! I'm sure he tried to blame it on Tony (even though Tony was nowhere near him), as is his usual blame-game.

2) Bobby Labonte wrecked!! HEE-HAW!! Payback for passing his brother 4 years ago on the last lap -- "nobody puts Terry in a corner" ;)

3) TONY passed Rusty WHINER on the last lap -- yeah, 20 didn't win, but hell, passing Rusty was worth it for me!

Also -- let's be careful with the "redneck" comments -- some people find it highly offensive (not me, but some people do -- they were going to have a car sponsor with the word "redneck" in it, and NASCAR denied them due to problems with image).

PLUS, you may be a redneck, but tickets AREN'T cheap, so you should have some $$$ somewhere, redneck or not!

GO TONY!!!

ADPiShannan 06-03-2004 12:02 AM

Awesome. We are members of the speedway club so we sit in ac boxes too. We were right in in gate 5a up to our seats way at the top. I love Lowes. Always one of my faves. I have 3 diff family members who are employees for diff Cup race teams so we always have a blast..... I hadnt did the whole stay for the All Stars and then go to every race during the next week then the 600 before. It was a long week without the beach lol but it was def sooo much fun. We go to the 600 each year then the Aug race there too, but I think we will include the All Star race too from now on.

No offense to the TS fans out there, cause personally, I think hes great, but this past week he sure had something up his butt. He was mad everytime I saw him. I even talked to him for like 15 mins and he was grouchy. My hubby thinks it may be cause he couldnt enter the Indy races cause of the diff car brands issue. Usually hes super nice though. I love having family in the right places so I can hang out in the pits and with the crews and get the gossip. Some of the crews will gossip about everything, its hilarious.

Jimmy was awesome. His car was out of control. He deserved to win..... I was rooting all the way for him.

Wonder if Jeff will win this coming weekend at Dover? I know he does pretty good there so well see. I am in the fantasy sports thing on yahoo with a bunch of friends for that and I wasnt sure who to choose to win this week. I know Gordo, Stewart, and Newman all have won there twice. Well see I guess.

Im going to Pocono the week after so Im excited. I need to become a teacher so I can go to all the races in the summer. I loved college and summers off for that reason.... I hate being a grown up anymore lol....

Who do you all think will win Dover this weekend?

AXO Alum 06-03-2004 09:13 AM

Okay - now I'm SERIOUSLY jealous. You were talking to MY MAN before the race?! You have got to hook me up! Would you please tell my man that in his honor, my orange cat was named Twenty? And that my husband wouldn't let me spend $2.75 on the Tony Stewart toothbrush, but that I am going back to Wal-Mart incognito to buy it?! :D

You just tell me how many PartyLite gift certificates it will take to get in with your gang!!! ;)

cutiepatootie 06-03-2004 12:56 PM

i love love love jeff gordon. i had a poli sci advisor in college who c oudl be this guys long lost twin brother

vanda 06-03-2004 01:14 PM

I think Ryan Newman may take Dover again this weekend. But I hope my fave, Jr does well enough to pull away from Jimmy Johnson in the points standing. I don't know about tickets where you guys are, but here in Chicago, you have to buy a season pass which means you're paying for races you may not want to attend. Well at least we get an IROC race when Nascar rolls into town in July.

Rudey 06-03-2004 01:39 PM

I would never hang out with anyone who posted praise about NASCAR in this thread.

-Rudey

ADPiShannan 06-03-2004 06:35 PM

I wouldnt hang out with anyone who couldnt be open minded about things. Not everyone loves what others like, but respect of others opinions is key....

Not all my friends like Nascar, but it is my families jobs for several members and Im sorry but it pays the bills and puts my 3 cousins through college so dont knock it. Plus its exciting and fun. Just my 2 cents.

twhrider13 06-03-2004 11:01 PM

DEI kicks butt.

And Dale Jr. is my future husband.

That's all I have to say. :D

ADPiShannan 06-05-2004 12:27 PM

Looks like Mayfield took the pole, but Newman is in second. It should be a good race.

AXO Alum 06-06-2004 09:25 PM

What a demolition derby today!! We listened to the last 50 laps on the radio on the way home, and my gosh - I didn't think anyone would win!

I am a Tony fan, but I was proud for Mark Martin. He's waited a long time for a win, and he deserved it today.

Kudos to Tony & Jr for making 2nd the hottest race in a long time!!

ADPiShannan 06-08-2004 09:37 AM

Def lots of wrecks. Newman was so pissed when he got out of his car and so was Kenseth. They both were mad when they were interviewed.

Glad to see Biffle win the Busch

ADPiShannan 06-13-2004 06:03 PM

OOO This week was good with the Harvick/Kenseth fights. I think Kenseth was being dirty and deserved to be in trouble, but like always I bet he wont and Harvick will. Also when R.Gordon blazed by everyone under caution I laughed for like 10 mins cause it was too funny. Wish McMurray would get a win already.

vanda 06-14-2004 10:37 AM

Isn't Harvick already on probation? No fight isbetter than the one during the Busch race two years ago when Kevin sat and waited on Greg Biffle to finish the race and then jumped doen on him

FIGHT? I missed a fight?? Dang!!

What are you talking about with Robby Brat Gordon? I can't stand him - talk about more $$$ than sense! When we went to the race at Martinsville, there were several driver appearances at trailers - all required a ticket to meet and greet (even Greg Bifle) -- not Robby though. They knew that they wouldn't be able to sell the tickets :D hahahaha!!

I missed the race yesterday - we had a ton of things to do, and then forgot when we got home. Oh well - at least JJ won :D

ADPiShannan 07-07-2004 01:08 AM

Chicago coming up this weekend. Should be a good one.

No big wrecks last week though at Daytona, kind of sad, but I was glad to see Gordon win against DEI in restrictor plate

jess_pom 07-07-2004 09:03 AM

Who won the race Saturday?

ADPiShannan 07-07-2004 09:07 AM

Jeff Gordon won. It was a great race. Not many wrecks at all, but he did have to keep racing to get first place and race to keep it. It was a good race. Jimmy Johnson came in second, followed by Dale Jr.

UGAnchora 07-07-2004 06:51 PM

Jr. Always runs well at Daytona, so this past weekend was good for him.

Do any of y'all watching "NASCAR 360" on FX? I love it.

My birthday was yesterday. My dad got me a Jr. Hat & Shirt...he says now I can get all decked out and go rednecking one night.....

vanda 07-08-2004 10:02 AM

Yes Nascar fever has taken over Chicago this week. I'm trying to make it to downtown Joliet for the Jr meet and greet and the softball tournament. I did get a chance to have my pic taken with his car yesterday. If only he was there. I'm thinking Harvick may in it this like he has in the two out of three years it's been here.

ADPiShannan 07-08-2004 10:05 AM

awesome. The Chicago race is great. I went last year to it. Im off to Pocono Aug 1st, but its not far from OH so its not too bad of a drive. I wish we had a track in Ohio, but I really plan to move back to NC where I am from so it'll be ok that is if we find jobs down there lol.

Everyone always is Jr mania even around here Jr stuff everywhere. Makes it hard to find McMurray and Salder things. I just have to get them off the internet.

vanda 07-08-2004 01:28 PM

Won't they have stuff on the Hauler at Pocono? Does anyone know if there's a website that shows where they are making appearances while in town?

AXO Alum 03-22-2005 12:41 PM

Race at Bristol...

So my mom just called to say that she has 2 tickets for me from the Home Depot for the Food City race in Bristol. I am SOOOOO excited! Home Depot has been trying to get my parents business (they are contractors) and they sent the tickets to let them know how "valuable" they are to the HD. My parents know nothing about racing, so we inherited the tix - yipee!

I am MOST excited about our pit tour and our session with Tony. I am bringing a picture of his namesake (my cat, Twenty) for an autograph which will go over our fireplace mantle - LOL!!

The cutest thing was mom telling me where our tickets where. She said "in the Kulwicki Terrace" but instead of saying Kulwicki, she said "Que-la-wick-ee" -- it was so funny.

texas*princess 03-22-2005 12:55 PM

I went to a race in Fort Worth a year or two ago. My sister had free tickets b/c the company she worked for gave them to corporate employees. It was really exciting, and I have to say, I really liked some of the painted messages on car windows in the parking lot. ("Officer, I'm not speeding. I'm Qualifying!")

hoosier 03-22-2005 01:16 PM

Yes

I'm a big fan, and went the truck race at Atlanta Friday night (cold as hell).

If you're going to Bristol, get there real early because they have huge crowds, and STEEP hills. There are some trams which will haul you up the hills. I wish there were more tracks like Bristol.

AOIIBrandi 03-22-2005 01:17 PM

I was just at the race on Sunday - box seats from one of Hubbie's vendors. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but after Sunday I do have a new found respect for it. We went down to the grandstand just before we left, and I couldn't believe it, you can't even tell what color the cars are as they go by!

Do any of you ever stay in the infield? I have a friend that stays in the Dega infield every race and she says it's an experience to remember. How is is staying there?
