Most Memorable Chi-O Songs/Chants

I noticed that Chi Omega songs were mentioned quite frequently in the "Most Memorable Songs/Chants" thread in the Rush Forum. We do have lots of songs that stick in your head!

What are your favorites?

Hair of Gold

She has hair of gold and her eyes are blue and her cheeks are rosy too. And on her chest she wears the crest of the X and the ole' horshoe. She ran around with every frat in town, many hearts were broken when she turned 'em down. She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world; she's a Chi Omega girl!

Now, when she pledged she was very, very young, but old enough to know. That the very best frat in the whole wide world was her very own ole' CHI-O!
(Older version): She finished school and married a fella', now she's knittin' booties of red and yella'. She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world; she's a Chi Omega girl!

(Newer version #1) She finished college and got her degree, now she's president of her company. She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world, she's a Chi Omega girl!

(Newer version #2) She finished college and got her PhD, now she's president of her own company. She's the cutest girl in the whole wide world, she's a Chi Omega girl!

Hey Jobellesis (love the name) -- I am a proud Psi Gamma (Mercer Univ., Macon, GA)

Speaking of songs...

Hey, how about this one (sung to the John Jacob Jingleheimer melody):

C-H-I-O-M-E-G-A...
Please say you'll be one too...
Whenever we are near...
You know good times are here
We're the C-H-I-O-M-E-G-A's!
Ya-Da-Da-Da-Da-Da
(First time-loud, clap) (Second time-softer, snap) (Third time- whisper, bounce)

Jobellesis, I have to agree. I miss singing Shades. We would sing it at our candle passes. My other favorite chant is the one we taught the PNMs:
Chi Omega, Chi Chi Omega,
C H I O M E G A, Chi Omega!
Chi omega, you'll agree, is the best sorority!
Chi Omega, go Chi O!

Definitely one of my favorites. Though we just sang it loud the whole time. A chat I really liked:
Chi Omega, Chi
Chi Omega, Chi
Chi Omega, Chi Omega, Chi Chi Chi
Rho, Beta, Upsilon, Eta, Sigma, Chi
Chi Omega*
Repeat from second Chi Omega, Chi)
* some chapters say their chapter letters here

I really like this one because my mom (Kappa) remembered the XO chapter at her school (Hillsdale) singing this all the time. She even knew it and was exctied when I learned it as a pledge! :)

I also like:
C with an H with an I
O with and M with and E
G with an A
Whadda ya say?
Chi Os the one for me!
HEY!

Hootie 01-13-2004 01:27 AM

In regards to Hair of Gold:
We sang "She finished school, married a man, and now she's the president of IBM...."

One of my favorites:
SPARK

It only takes a spark to get a Chi O going
And soon all those around, will warm up to her glowing
That's how it is with our love
Once you've experience it
We share our love with everyone, we want to pass it on.

OR

These Are The Days (from 10,000 Maniacs)

These are the days you'll remember
Never before and never since, we promise
Will the whole world feel as warm as this
And as you feel it, you'll know it's true
That we, are sisters who are good for you
It's true
Each day our friendships, will grow and bloom in you
(That's just part of the song)

Hootie 01-13-2004 01:27 AM

Who remembers the chant with the crossbones?

Hmm...not sure. I do recall this little ditty from the "old " days (when I was an active).

We are the joy girls of ole' Chi O
Hello, hello, hello, hell-o!
We want the whole wide world to know
The very best girls go Chi-O!

We love the cardinal
We love the straw
Skull and bones too,
Skull and bones too
Our white carnation is a sensation
We love it, we do
We love it, we do...

Hootie 01-14-2004 01:58 AM

Hmmm, not quite but thanks for adding that ;) I'll have to see if I can't get a sister to email me the chant. It's gonna drive me nuts!

xo_kathy 01-14-2004 11:17 AM

We used to sing a song like this:

Chi O
Everybody knows
Skull and crossbones
Cardinal and Straw
Weeee are Chiiiii O-me-eh-eh-eh-ga-aa

I suppose it could be a chant, too?

Hootie 01-15-2004 12:34 AM

Was anyone around when Nationals pushed the Chi Omega Classic skits (I think Nationals pushed it).

The stars will always shine, the girls will always sing
As long as there is rush, there's always the real thing
Chi Omega classic is always the one
As long as there is fun, there's always Chi Omega!

he he he! Gotta love those cheesy songs!

Heck, they're all a little "cheesy." You just have to decide if you want cheddar or Velveta! :p

National Rush Team pushed us to switch to it when I was Rush Chair. Previously, we did a short skit in Round 2, Round 3 was the major skit round. We had done a line of girls all dressed differently and the chapter would chant:
"1-2-3-4 Tell me what this rush is for"
And a girl would turn around and say something. Like, one girl was in tennis whites with a raquet and she said:
"On the track, or at the court
Chi Os excel in every sport!"

Or a girl dressed in fancy clothes with shopping bags said;
"What's your major? What's your minor?
Do you appreciate the finer?"
Etc etc

So we switched to Chi Omega Classic that year and we weren't very good (sour grapes I think for "having" to change). Plus, we weren't the best singers! :D Luckily, the next year they made Round 2 philanthropy and you couldn't do skits!

We sing this version on the first night of recruitment :) this one is definitely doomed to be in your head forever.

chitownxo 02-01-2004 07:23 PM

Anyone remember this one? Double points if you remember the movements that went with each line!

Walk right in, sit right down
Chi Omega's glad you came
Walk right in, sit right down,
The best Greek living is our aim
Everybody's talking there'll be new Chi-O's walking
Do you wanna have a good time
Walk right in, sit right down
Chi Omega's glad you came!

We used to sing that for the second round of parties. Every time I hear the song it's taken from on the radio, I sing along (and if I'm not in public, I've been known to do the motions, too!)

DPK4LIFE 02-11-2004 04:49 PM

I was looking thru and didn't see a couple of the one's that our chapter uses all the time. So here they are:

The C is for charisma
The H is for HOT
The I is for Intelligence, that's something we all got.
The O is for outrageous, that's something we all are.
So tell all the houses Chi-O's better by far.

We also do the Chi Omega spirit check. Someone yells "CHI OMEGA SPIRIT CHECK!!" and then we clap 5 times, 5 times, 3 times, 3 times and then say Chi-O Huh (w/ our arms forming letters).

We also do one called "There are no Chi-o's down in hell," but we usually only use this for frat serenades.

I was browsing the XO messages---the XO chapter at baylor university (TX) has a room right across the hall from our ADPi room and they definitely sing this song everyday of rush. I think we have the song memorized now too. :) But it works-here i am about to graduate and I still recognize the "walk right in, sit right down!" and I am not even a XO

panhellenically,
Megan

Ok, my chapter is young, and we don't have hardly any of these songs!!! I need you to record them for me.

Is there anywhere that you can get a recoring for these songs?

The Executive HQ used to sell cassette tapes -- maybe they still do.

FYI...I just bought an album (LP record) on eBay of Chi Omega songs recorded in 1962 by Psi Chapter!

Chi Omega Songs/Chants

When our national consultant was here, she taught us this really cool one...thought you guys might like it.:D

We're number 1 O-N-E

Cause we're Chi C-H-I

Omega, We're Chi Omega.

*It was a lot of fun and we have a blast every time.
:p

Do you guys know the Pink Underware song?

chitownxo 03-28-2004 07:36 PM

Here's one version of Pink Underwear

We're the Chi Omegas,
And you better beware,
We've got the Classy Chasses
And the pink underwear
We've got the hips that sank the ships
At Harvard, Yale, and Purdue
And if you don't believe us boys
It's your Waterloo
We'll take a 15-minute intermission
In your V-8 (vroom)
We'd like to make in longer
But we've got a late date
We're gonna hug 'em and squeeze 'em
and love 'em and leave 'em
and kiss 'em tonight
'Cause we're the Chi Omegas and
We're all right
Up tight
Out of sight
Yeah!

Beta_delta04 03-29-2004 07:09 PM

Pink underware

That's awesome that you know that song!!! We did that song as part of the Greek Sing during Greek Week!!!!! We actually wore skirts and flipped them up to reveal our "pink underware" that were actually boy cut shorts died pink with our letters on it!!! It made everyone laugh!!!!!!

KellyB369 03-30-2004 01:16 PM

Our chapter also does "Doo Wop" and we use "Red Hot":

Everybody wants to be a Chi Omega
Everybody knows we're red hot
Everybody wants to be a Chi Omega
All we can tell them is we're hot

(Then one group yells) RED HOT! (And the other echos) CHI O!
RED HOT! CHI O!

Everybody wants to go CHI O!

Then later on in the week as recruitment gets more serious we do "Shades" and "Are You Listening?":

Are you listening?
(echo) Are you listening?

Chi O's calling you...
From a day gone by

You are part of all her yesterdays
Hold your head up high

Building her tomorrows on the spirit of the past

Are you listening?
(echo) Are you listening?
Chi O's calling you

Answer
(echo) Answer
And her spirit will last

NutBrnHair 03-30-2004 01:26 PM

Everybody Knows That We Are Red Hot!

Oh yeah...I love the "Red Hot" song. I think the Rho Epsilon Chapter at T.C.U. (Texas Christian Univ.) came up with that one in the early 1990s.

I love our song traditions -- it's something chapters really need to work to preserve. A song that was once popular can fade away easily.

IACutieHootie 04-20-2004 09:20 PM

hehe... I love the mention of "Oh there ain't no Chi Omegas" that's a funny one... speaking of has anybody ever heard of a chant called "Superficial"? I'm not going to repeat it but I was just wondering if any of you knew it...

My chapter also did

We're Chi O's
the best you know
We're Chi O's
the way to go
We're Chi O's
we hope you'll see
it's a Chi O you want to be

we have a really funny spoken song from choo choo too. It's the party girls song, but I don't know all the words yet

We do "There are no Chi Omegas down in Hell...". Is that the same? I've never heard of Superficial.
