Proactiv??? Help!
Hey! I was in the mall recently and found a stand selling Proactiv. I've seen the info commercials, but the lady really impressed.
Has anybody tried it? Was it good or bad? I'm sick of acne flareups!!!! So any help would be great!:) |
Expensive but it does work. There are also sellers on Ebay who sell ProActiv just be careful of expiration dates.

I started using Proactive 2 years ago b/c of some annoying adult onset acne. It was awesome...but you have to keep using it...fortunately, I can get away with only using it once a day, whereas they suggest using it twice a day (I did that in the beginning).
My story isn't that impressive, but I have 16 year old brother who used to be on prescriptions for his acne, it was so bad...a year ago, I gave him some of mine and it has really worked miracles on his poor adolescent face...now he only gets pimples if he slacks off & forgets to use it for a few days.... Anyway-I guess you could say I highly recommend it. He found a web-site that sells it a little cheaper than eBay and the actual Proactiv site, but the bottles are all in Russian...still works the same though. On a related note - don't the have a shampoo? Has anyone tried it? |
You saved his life.

aw man in 8th grade i wish i had a big sister
|
yay, i have 4,000 posts.
yay. |
It works extremely well. My only problem is that shipments take so long to reach Canada that I often run out before my next shipment arrives. It gives my skin a chance to break out all over again! :(
|
I ordered proactive and it worked well. Due to costs and the fact I always run out and forget to order I now go to the grocery store and buy acne wash there. I think it is all benzyl peroxide just different percentages. I now use Oxy Acne wash which is 10% B.P., I think Pro Active is 2.5% B.P.
|
Question...
Has anyone tried Proactiv to treat hormonal adult acne? |
Well-I never sought a diagnosis, but I assume it was hormonal...I never had a problem with acne until I was about 30.... and it worked for me.

Proactiv!!
I have Adult-Onset Acne. Once I turned 29, my skin went ballistic! I've been using it for about 4 months and I kick myself every time I think about how long it took me to buy this stuff! I was desperate after getting no lasting results with prescription meds and after Doxycycline kept making me sick. My skin basically laughed at anything over-the-counter!
Proactiv made me able to show my face and be happy again! I rarely wear face powder or foundation anymore. I still get minor monthly breakouts but instead of the blemishes never going away, they are gone in a couple of days. I get the automatic ship, and if you register on their website after you receive your 1st couple of shipments, you can adjust the frequency and contents of what comes in your kit, plus order other products that are only available to Proactiv members at a discount. Instead of getting a new kit every 8 weeks, I now get one every 10 weeks. It is a little costly, but it's definitely worth it! Give it a try! |
I found a knockoff brand of Proactiv at Walgreens called "Kleer Action" and it works great! It's only $20 for the set. Plus, you don't have to wait for shipping. Just go to walgreens and buy another set. I noticed that Wal-Mart had a similar product, too.
I've been using it for about 3 weeks and it works well. When I stopped, things flared up again. Hurts like hell for a few minutes, but its overall pretty easy. Just a caveat: IT WILL BLEACH THINGS. I put the lotion on, and apparently didn't wipe my hands well enough because now we have hand towels with yellowed bleached-looking spots on them. |

Another cleap version
I just bought another knock-off :D version called ProAcne @ Walmart for $18.99. I just started using it Saturday and so far so good. I'll report back in a few weeks with the results.
I tried Doxycycline (for thirty days) about two years ago with good results too. I did start having problems again until about 6 months ago. Maybe I will try it again if the ProAcne don't work. |
Ya'll are lucky that you can get knock-offs in the States. I'm stuck paying $64 (Canadian) for Proactiv.

I use Proactiv and I love it!

Yuck!
-Rudey --I would not touch a girl with skin problems. She might break out and get bacne. |
I hate to be the only one against it, but it did not work for me. I eventually had to be put on Accutane.
Speaking of cruel joke (wrinkes and acne at the same time)- my skin's cruel joke is after having decent skin for 4 years, I now have Roceasa (aka 'adult acne') WTF? Why do some people get all the good genes?? ps- way to be sensitive rudey. |

Well, my results have been GREAT with ProAcne! My acne has cleared up COMPLETELY (FYI I had the cystic kind of acne) . Proactne cleared it up in about 3 weeks. The directions say to use it twice daily. Although I used the facial cleanser and toner twice a day, I only used the acne med at night. I tried using it during the day, but I didn't think it wore well under make-up. Oh yeah, it also will cause you towels to turn yellow just like Proactive! I give it an A++ :D And its only $18 at my local Wal-mart. |
I'm borderline "obsessive" about my skin in that I care for it with cleansers twice a day and don't wear makeup if I don't have to and get facials when I can afford them.
I too had pretty perfect school as a teenager and around 25-30 had adult acne that wasn't too too bad but for me it was bad. So I did buy ProActive. I loved it and LOVED how soft it made my skin feel and it did clear up my acne. Then I was able to afford a facial at least once a season and this is what the esthetician said. ALL Adult acne, is hormonal. And the cleaners, soap, proactive etc is clearing up the SURFACE and NOTHING clears up what's underneath your skin except for diet and hormones. And, she said that once I started using Proactive, my pores were so clogged. So, I stopped using that and am not using another product and now that I'm older, my acne is much much better though admittedly it wasn't that bad to begin with. Just an annoyance. |

 My Wal Mart did not have ProAcne but I did get the last box of Klear Action tonight from Walgreens. :D

I looked at the Wal-Mart version and they didn't do a side-by-side comparison of ingredients like the Walgreens one so I was reluctant to get it. I'm guessing its the exact same thing though? |

After I bought it I compared the indegrediants via Proactiv's website and they were the same (same amount of benzolye peroxide). |

Well, I finally decided to try it.... but on the way to the mall I stopped and got ProAcne from Walmart. I have loved the results! Although my face isn't perfect, it is 90% better!
About two weeks after I got it I stopped by the Proactiv booth in the mall and asked what the difference was. She smiled and said "very little". So I was excited. Then she sold me proactiv's refining mask? HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS? Its a miracle potion! Its a mask you use twice or three times a week - but she told me if you put it on your problem areas and leave it on over night (no lotion on top of it) it will help clear up faster. OMG it works so well! I'd advise all of you, especially those with cystic acne, to get this! The only downfall is, that it has sulfur in it. So it kinda smells funny. But its worth it! |

Klear Action did not come with a mask. I might have to E-bay some mask. :) |
i bought proactiv a long time ago and tried it- it didn't work for me... neither did prescriptions-
I did find that CLiniques 3 step did, except the moisturizer, I use a sensitive skin formula of neutrogena for that. But overall I have great skin. The past year of my life is the first I haven't been afraid to leave the house without makeup on. |
ProAcne at WalMart is now called AcneFree (lawsuits and stuff) and is $18.88.
|
I use Proactiv and it rocks.
At first (the first year or so) I had to use it every single day. Now, I only use the repairing lotion and even then, I only use it when I need to. Now if I feel like a zit is popping up, I treat it and it never even surfaces! The number one advice though: Don't touch your face or pick your skin! |
I started using ProActiv in 1999. I still use it now, but not on a regular basis. I was using it on a regular basis for about two years and then slowly started using it less and less. I now use it when I have a flare-up, which is only when I am getting my period. So my suggestion is, get on a regular schedule with using it and then slowly stop using it and see what happens. I would use it everyday though if it wasnt for the price!!

There's a Pro Activ station in the Fayette mall here so I just went and picked some of that up. I have to say, my face has done a complete 180. I'm so impressed with this stuff!!!! |

I tell yall, the Walmart brands works!!!!!!! |
my roommate used that stuff. only her skin didn't dramatically clear up or anything. she still had flare ups and she also said if you stop using it, it all comes back.
I shop at Origins and I love their facial products. The face wash I use is just super expensive for a face wash so I am using neutrogena now. |
*bump*
I want more ProActiv opinions before I go and spend a fortune on this stuff. I went through puberty having only a few pimples. I was lucky. My skin has always been really good. I've been stressed for the past couple of months which I think is the cause of the break outs. I've been stressed before but never had a break out...I'm guessing my skin doesn't react as well to it now that I'm older. My break outs aren't bad. They're contained to my forehead and it's only a few zits but they're there and they're bothering me. Especially coming from someone who never had a problem before; it's kinda upsetting. As soon as my break outs seem to be going away, they'll just pop up again! I long for the days where I was able to go without make up. I now have to put concealer and powder on. A friend of mine had really bad break outs when she was younger and some of the prescription stuff that her dermatologist prescribed made her skin worse. I guess that's my main fear. Has anyone ever gone on ProActiv and had their skin worsen? Anyway, I just want to hear more ProActiv success stories before I buy it. |
