Make Out music

After talking with a man I had a date with about makeout music (he didn't know who BARRY WHITE was), and reflecting upon past makeout music...I wanted to make sure no other ladies suffer what I have. Ladies and Gentlemen of GC, leave your suggestions and comments so that others can successfully smooch. I also like to share my personal horror stories and sick opinions.

*Anonymous younger GC guy...take notes, or I will never make out with you ;) *

DONT'S
1) Dave Matthews Band - The Crash album came out in 1996. I realize that this reminds you of your college years but it isn't original anymore. A mix CD with one or two songs is okay but not all the DMB CDs you own in your disc changer is appropriate (Travis the Travesty). Was this a suggestion in Maxim or Playboy?

2) Alanis Morisette - Jagged Little Pill also came out in 1995 or so...let it GO. Do you really think an angry Canadian woman is the best choice in makeout music? I am more likely to slap you if your hands get to frisky after listening to her.

3) Savage Garden/Enya - I have already realized you aren't a sensitive guy, and it is okay. You don't have to pretend. Please, just turn it off already, the music clashes with your camo outfit and Ranger School beret.

4) George Carlin - Yes his stand up stuff is hilarious, but hearing about the 7 words I cant' say on tv and radio is not going to draw my lips towards yours (Travis the Travesty part 2). Bill Cosby is better but I can't laugh and kiss at the same time can I?

5) The Television - Yes Casablanca can inspire a lip lock, however Pee Wee's Big Adventure does not. Mute and pause are your friends on the remote.

6) Some Rap Music - If you're singing along calling women biznitches and hizzos it can be a definite turn off. Many women are offended by Too Short so keep that in mind. You don't need to sing 2 Live Crew's "Me So Horny" it is pretty obvious.

DOS
1) Al Green/Marvin Gaye/Smokey and so on - These men have soul, they have class, if you don't know who they are ask your parents.

2) Nina Simone - dayam, just...dayam.

3) Duets by Ella and Louis - bonus points if you get up and ask us to dance.

4) Some Pink Floyd/Led Zeppelin/The Cure - I can't explain it...

5) Madonna - she knows what she is talking about.

6) Prince (and any other names he goes by) - the guy has talent

I like that list. :) Dave Matthews is especially bad when it's connected to your girl's ex who she had a bad breakup with. (Boys hoping to kiss me, take notice. Dave won't help your case! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/remykiss.gif http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/kiss.gif)

I like listening to John Mayer, but only if the boy I'm kissing is one I'm into enough that my mind doesn't start wandering to John in the middle of the kiss. That's bad.

Two words: Barry White :p :p :p :p

FAB*SpiceySpice 06-13-2003 09:36 PM

Best makeout song....Fall Again by Glenn Lewis. But once again the guy better be amazing so my mind doesn't wander over to Glenn b/c he is quite hot! :D

PhiMuJulia 06-13-2003 09:55 PM

Um did i miss anyone putting Sade, it has been said that everytime one of her new cds come out nine months later there is a spike in the birth rate.

dzandiloo 06-14-2003 02:05 AM

Love the Topic!

DON'T:
Anything Kenny G. Please. Just. Don't.
It does not turn a girl on to know that you own anything Kenny G related-especially not the Dying Young soundtrack.

Do:
Marvin Gaye/Barry White/Isley Brothers - just about anything.

George Michael - esp. the "Listen Without Prejudice" album...I know he's a poof, but to use Aurora's words - dayum.

Best Makeout Song:
Someone Like You - Van Morrison (grand finale kissing scene b/t Bridget Jones & Mark Darcy)...just set it up & put it on repeat. Don't be self conscious about the fact that I am imagining that I am with Colin Firth, it can only work out to your benefit. :)

AlphaFrog 06-14-2003 02:06 AM

Can't go wrong with Mozart!!!!

Ok, ok I'm weird...shutup!

juniorgrrl 06-14-2003 02:17 AM

Awwwwwww yeeeeah.

Ain't nothing like some Sade baby making music. "By Your Side" is my all time favorite.

sororitygirl2 06-14-2003 01:32 PM

I agree with James Taylor and Van Morrison... they are amazing.

Jill1228 06-14-2003 01:36 PM

Earth Wind and Fire...Reasons

How 'bout some Luther Vandross?

I agree with Sade...she is da bomb!

And don't get me started with Marvin Gaye...dayumn! Love me some Marvin. "Sexual Healing" and "Let's Get it On" Those are definitely gettin' busy songs

And Prince....Yowza!

Jill1228 06-14-2003 01:40 PM

Hold up...someone didn't know Barry White? WTF? They need a pimp slap!

Had one of my best makeout sessions in college to Whitney Houston's debut CD. But now I don't know if I can deal with her and her crack head self...what a waste!

Another good one: George Michael "Faith"

Agree

Isaac Hayes is also the man.

LuaBlanca 06-14-2003 04:02 PM

80s power/love ballads.......:D

especially:
"Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison
"Always" & "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi

*swoon* hehehe

veemers 06-14-2003 05:22 PM

some of my favorites:

In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel
Nights in White Satin by Moody Blues
House at the End of the World by The Smithereens

And ditto on the Every Rose Has its Thorn!!!

I myself am not a huge fan of Barry White and Marvin Gaye, but I always was a little weird. :)

Unless you're making out with me. I'm all about DMB (although probably because I'll be meeting Boyd tomorrow & seeing a show Wed!) :D

I agreed with pretty much everything else, though.

AlphaGamDiva 06-15-2003 06:00 PM

see....i have NEVER been into having any kind of background/make out music going...don't know why, but it never did anything for me. i'd kinda get lost singin the song in my head sometimes....even if the guy was an amazing smoocher, i'd be thinking, "wow, he's kinda good" and then sadly drift off into the lyrics of the song.

HOWEVER, the last guy i was makin out with.....omg, was playin like this sex cd or something, i dunno. but he was about jumped....it was all about the music, and then he was a good ol' kisser....and the combination was just niiiiiiice. ;) def put him in the top 3. OY. wish i knew what songs they were.....i'll try and find out! :)

now i need some face...thanks, guys. :p oh, but brian mcknight is a good mushy kinda guy......back at one, anytime....those are good ones.

Ever since the Cadets played that song in their 2001 show, I haven't been able to listen to it the same way again.

Rio_Kohitsuji 06-15-2003 08:09 PM

I'm slightly more of a rocker chick..I like to have Seven Mary Three, Offspring, Live (Dolphin's Cry, oh yeah), Nirvana and etc. I hate to say it but I can't dig the Barry White (sorry!!!) or the really mushy songs, it makes me want to laugh. ;)

I had three boyfriends that all decided DMB Crash album was "the" music to have on when they made a move. I consulted with my friends and the same thing happened to them. I think because I dated a few buttmonkeys DMB lost the magic.

AHH neither have I! But I'm a geek, what's YOUR excuse? lol

Cream- it depends on how deeply you are connected to the Cadets...for some of us it's not something that we can explain...for others we just think they're an awesome corp. (BTW- They are a drum corp from Bergen County, NJ.)
