What is/was your favorite childhood Toy?

Mine, was a toss up between My Strawberry Shortcake Figurines that actually SMELLED like strawberries and my Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls.

I also liked My Little Pony, with the comb-able tail mane!
:D

NinjaPoodle 04-04-2003 04:10 PM

Hmmmm, I have to dig wayyyy back into my grey matter to remember some of these.

I lovvvved my pick-up sticks, Mr. Potato Head, bucket of 100 green army men (and some came with parachutes!), Holly Hobbie cake mix--never made it, I just liked looking at the picture on the box :D! I know I'm forgetting some but you know what they say about getting old. The memory goes first!

BTW, I still have some of these toys.

ZTAMiami 04-04-2003 04:14 PM

Cabbage Patch dolls! I had so much fun with them!
I never liked Barbie's. I used to take their heads off LOL!
I also like My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite doll.
You know what doll always freaked me out...Cricket. Her eyes would move side to side. Just really weird!

Aurora6 04-04-2003 04:17 PM

LOL! I loved my cabbage patch kid! I almost forgot about those ZTAMiami!

@NinjaPoodle, I never liked those darn pick up sticks! I was like WTH?

And sadly, my parents never got me the Easy Bake Oven, I SOOOO COVETED! :( I don't think I ever got over that heartbreak!

Aurora6 04-04-2003 04:19 PM

Oh, yeah and...

I must admit, I was a bit of a tomboy because I loved HOT WHEELS, I used to collect a bunch of those bad boys, build a track and try to crash em.

Got to shout out the G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu Grip! :D

And Transformers....

Ha, Ha! I hated that oven! The light bulb broke and I didn't like to cook anyway.

I liked the CPD's also but never got one. The one doll I really did want was the tina Turner doll. I still have this one. She came with a swivl head so you could change her hair from blond streaks to dark brown. :D

ZTAMiami--To this day, I can't STAND Barbies. I had 2 and never played with them.

jll79 04-04-2003 04:35 PM

I enjoyed my cabbage patch kids....I had two(one with yarn hair and the other with the cornsilk hair). And I LOVED playing with my SIMON. Who remembers that!?!?!? :)

NinjaPoodle 04-04-2003 04:37 PM

YES!! I have a mini-version on my keychain!

I liked those strawberry shortcake dolls, too, especially the sister (wasn't her name orange blossom or something?). Man, my easybake was no joke, either. The cookies weren't the best, though. My mama wouldn't let me have my little pony or the Barbie Dream House... :(

I would have to say my absolute fave was a tossup between

My barbie RV (I think it was called a motorhome back then) It was the BOMB!! It was, like three feet long and had a shower, furniture and dishes for barbie and her friends. Maybe it was barbie's tourbus or something.

Shrinkydinks (for some reason, I just really dug them)

Fashions by Me - it was a toy where you rubbed over plates with
black pencil and then you colored in the drawings. It was simple and kinda dorky, but it was one of my faves.

Baby grows up - It was a baby that you pulled the string on and she grew into a toddler.

TRSimon 04-04-2003 05:04 PM

I really dug Simon

It just had such a catchy and cool name... :)

Aurora6 04-04-2003 05:07 PM

Now that I'm thinking, I used to LOVE MAD LIBS!!

Y'all remember that game where you interviewed your friends and asked them to fill in the blanks with a certain word (noun, adjective, verb, thing, place, etc) and then you read the story back with the inserts...that was so fun.

sigmadiva 04-04-2003 06:28 PM

Mine was a Snoopy doll and my Barbie, until I cut all her hair off. I actually thought it would grow back!!!!

kizzie22 04-04-2003 06:52 PM

I LOVED playing with my Easy Bake oven...I thought I was Ms.Betty Crocker:D. I LOVED playing connect4, Life, and Jaws. I enjoyed playing my atari video game. I thought I was da bomb playing pac-man. LOL!! Does anyone remember the rubix cube?

Mad Libs were the "must have" item at Elementary school book fairs! Remember them? I loved to read so I'd get my little sheet and order about $60 worth of books! Needless to say after my parents saw it I'd have to go back and erase over 1/2 of them! LOL

Im favorite toy was legos!! I loved building stuff! Unlike most of you, I loved Barbies! I had houses, a car, tons of clothes, shoes that were always getting lost! LOL

Same thing here! I used to be the ONLY person hypeed to go to the book fair.

One of my favorite toys was my Teddy Ruxpin doll because he talked. I also like my Fisher Price lawnmower that blew bubbles so that I could act like I was helping my grandfather. I also had a FP kitchen and I just thought I could cook and would make everyone sit and eat my plastic food.

SeriousSigma22 04-04-2003 09:03 PM

A Jelly Bellie Doll, the Bionic Woman Action Figure, and of course, Black Barbie.

I also spent a lot of hours playing with my Etch-A-Sketch!

NinjaPoodle 04-04-2003 09:43 PM

Ouji board. I have that in miniture also:)

SeriousSigma22 04-07-2003 07:46 PM

Sorhor Ninjapoodle,

That's not a toy (Ouji board) I don't touch things that deal with the spiritual realm and not of God! Wow! I blown away! My mother wouldn't let me bring anything of that nature in my house.

Serioussigma:eek:

SeriousSigma22 04-07-2003 07:47 PM

Correction!

In my parent's home!

Serioussigma22

NinjaPoodle 04-08-2003 04:25 AM

Soror SS22,

i didn't own one but my best friend did and I knew she was faking it when we played with the thing. I thought it was funny then. All the girls in the circle would believe what she was doing. When I was at summer camp, some girls brought their board from home. It was fun to scare some of the other kids but I knew it was fake.

My mini ouji remindes me of the fun I had at camp and the siliness of it all! :)

I don't think my parents even knew what a Ouji board is let alone the majority of the toys that were out there at that time.

bluethunder 04-08-2003 08:13 AM

don't front...

back in the good old days, we all know that it was ALL ABOUT the LEGOS!

Tinkertoys is where it's at!

Aurora6 04-08-2003 04:05 PM

WoW!

OK Y'all are bringing out the MEM-O-RIES!!!!!

@Eclipse & Gina1201, *raising hand* I was a little nerd too. I used to love the school book fairs. I almost forgot about those until y'all brought it up. I love to read.

@SigmaDiva, I am SO mad you (and all of y'all who) cut barbie's hair! I had a whole slew of barbies and would go over my friend's house to have barbie parties in the Barbie SUV. I also had her Old School Ice Cream Parlor that actually made ice cream

Oooh! That reminds me, do y'all remember that Snoopy Snow Cone Maker?! LOL!

What about the board games like Hungry Hungry Hippo, man I loved that, or Shutes(sp?) and Ladders, Trouble....

What about collecting all the Jelly Bracelets?

Memories.....

:D

SeriousSigma22 04-08-2003 04:28 PM

Sorhors,

Now I know that you all remember candyland, twister, roller skates, and the Betty Crocker Easy Bake Toy Ovens. I remember my sister, who is also a sorhor, putting playdoh and crayons in the oven and making a messy of things. Those truly were the good ole' days.

Serioussigma22:cool:

sigmadiva 04-08-2003 04:45 PM

Fun toy for every girl and boy!!!!!!

I also had a Shrinky-Dink set. I still have some of the ornaments I made. Oh, those were the days. Oh, and I played with LEGOS too!!!! And a Light-Brite. :) :) :) :)

SeriousSigma22 04-08-2003 09:40 PM

Sorhors and friends of Sigma,

I confess that I only played with the game "operation" just for the sound effects when I tried to take out the funny bone.:D

Serioussigma22

:D

jll79 04-08-2003 09:43 PM

Does anybody remember making keychains with lanyard....(the box, the barrel, the cobra) with all kinds of zany colors you can get.

I remember cutting Barbie's hair and getting mad because it wouldn't grow back.

Does anyone remember the Cricket Dolls??

I still have some of the plastic thread to make them. We called them boondoggles (I'm sure I messed the spelling up).

I still make them:D I learned how to make them @ summer camp when I was a wee tot. Years later, I ended up working for the camp and taught my kids how to make them. I also make the friendship bracelets.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Rubics Cube and the gazillion copies that came after it.

LOL!!!! So did I!! Does anyone remember sit and spin?

SeriousSigma22 04-09-2003 07:19 PM

Sorhor Kizzie22 and Friends of Sigma,

Yes, and I used to get so dizzy playing on that toy. I also used to love jumping rope, playing hop-scotch, and playing with my jacks.

I LOVED my Cabbage Patch Kids!! I think I had like 4 or 5 of em. I popped the heads off of all my Barbies. And I hated Cricket too--my cousin got one the same Christmas I got my boy Cabbage Patch. We took a picture together with both dolls and all you can see is Cricket's eyes. D@mn doll never knew when to shut up............My favorite doll was my Lil Miss Makeup. I played with her so much the makeup just stayed instead of disappearing and reappearing.

I had an Easy Bake Oven but never used it. That may have something to do with why I don't cook today. :D We did the keychain thing too.

SeriousSigma22 04-15-2003 02:32 PM

Unfortunately Sorhors,

I left the toy era behind when Cabbage Patch dolls were first on the scene. I was in college having fun at that stage in my young life.

Serioussigma22:cool:

Aurora6 04-21-2003 03:43 PM

What about....

@ Soror SeriousSigma...sis, girl Ssssshhhh! You telling on yourself! haha

I loved Chutes and Ladders and Candyland. Y'all remember hungry hungry hippo? That was the game boy.

What about summer toys? Did your family get the toy that turned your garden hose into a wiggly, whirling water toy? or did your dad just break out the garden hose and spray y'all with it? lol!

What about the slip-n-slide? How many people got broke on a slip-n-slide because there were rocks under the slide in the grass...lol

I'm surprised some of us made it to adult hood in one piece.

:D

I still have the books I bought from those fairs. Some Charlie Brown titles, and a few other ones.

SeriousSigma22 04-22-2003 05:11 PM

My favorite reading book was Charlotte's Web! I loved that book.

Serioussigma22

BlueReign 04-25-2003 04:10 PM

Play dough. I still like it.

BirthaBlue4 04-25-2003 06:26 PM

I loved race car sets with the tracks that never worked after the first day, my Pillow Person (I had Sweet Dreams), Treasure Trolls, my Fashion Star Filly (I had Chloe-I wanted the green one), and all my stuffed animals, and I still have all of them.

SeriousSigma22 04-25-2003 08:21 PM

I was also a big fan of puppets! I had a Smokey the Bear one!

Serioussigma22:p

NinjaPoodle 04-25-2003 08:25 PM

I still have my Magic 8 Ball:D
