It's Snowing!!!!

I am soooo excited.. I have NEVER seen snow before and this morning it SNOWED in north texas!!!! woohoo!!!!! It only took almost 21 years for me to see snow!!!

prospectiverushee 01-12-2003 03:10 PM

I was born and raised in Michigan, so I've seen snow before. But I got to tell you, even I am amazed that it's snowing here in Dallas

CrimsonTide4 01-12-2003 03:13 PM

Can yall send some to NC? I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

I wish I could, but the snow's not going to last. It's going to be 56 tommorrow. I'm mad about it to cause I don't want to go to work tommorrow either:D

texas*princess 01-12-2003 05:57 PM

Crimson, I can send you some in a little plastic baggie ;)

I'm really surprised it's been snowing here all day since at least 10 am. There isn't enough on the ground to make a snow angel or a snowman, but oh well :)

BOO HISS!!! I need enough to fall @ 4 AM so the snow plows could not come remove it in time for the high schoolers and their teachers to travel safely. All I really need is 1 inch here.

Oh, that's sad! One inch isn't realy even a snowstorm!

I've lived in Ohio, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan and now Colorado.

I'll tell you what, though, in Denver we've had almost no snow at all the past couple of years, and the mountains haven't gotten as much as usual either. We need some badly, or water use restrictions will be worse next year than this one.

CanadianTeke 01-12-2003 08:48 PM

Less than three inches here is a 'dusting'. But like DeltAlum itr has been 'warm' here over the past few years (today it was -16 which is normal) The Rideau Canal whcih is the logest skating rink in the world (7.8km) normally opens before christmas, this year it didn't open till just after and last year it did't open till the end of february and was only open for like 2 weeks. The nearly had to cancel Winterlude (a festival celebrating winter).

DeltAlum 01-13-2003 12:21 AM

I think we can assume our friend from up North means -16C.
Edited to add that it would convert to about +3F.

CanadianTeke 01-13-2003 12:28 AM

Yes --- sorry i tend to forget to make the Fahrenheit conversion.
-16 Celcius is about 3 Fahrenheit

tinydancer 01-13-2003 12:28 AM

I was also thinking "SNOW DAY" but it was too warm to even stick to the streets. It snowed off and on until about 4:00. Texas*princess knows that we don't usually get snow, we just get ice - boy is that a pain in the ass!

AOX81 01-13-2003 09:12 AM

I HATE SNOW!!! I lived in Michigan for almost 25 years and I have been living in Ohio for the past two. My college graduation was cancelled because of the December 2000 blizzard. I lived with my husband and two of my friends...we were stuck in our townhouse for 2 days because no one was allowed on the roads. Walking to the store to get food in thigh high snow is not my idea of a fun day.

texas*princess 01-13-2003 01:04 PM

tinydancer, i didn't even know it usually iced around here! I just figured it would be colders since it's farther north than i'm used to.

I'm still relatively new to the area and I think it shows -- after I found out it was snowing, I jumped outside and took all kinds of pictures with my camera. I'm such a dork :p

ADPi~Ally 01-13-2003 07:30 PM

I don't get snow where I live in cali, it's usually rain. It has snowed 2 time in my life so far. 1st time my family and I built a snow man and had snow fights. That was fun. For snow, u drive up to the sierra nevada (1.5 hrs away). Which is fine with me.

aephi alum 01-13-2003 08:57 PM

I'd be more than happy to send you TX/CA/NC folks all this snow that's been falling in New England...

Snow is great unless you're in it. Ice is worse. I'm sick of this winter weather. Is it April yet??

AWESOME!! Can you send me enough to make a snowman? It's something I've always wanted to do :D

tinydancer 01-13-2003 09:30 PM

We had enough snow here for some teeny tiny snowmen. I saw several that were still standing on my way to work today.

You could make a whole snow family. Mom, Dad, 2 kids, dog, cat, goldfish...

CanadianTeke 01-14-2003 02:28 AM

Damn it's cold

So i just looked at the forecast for Ottawa tomorrow morning (when i have to leave for school) the Canadian weather network is forecasting -31C with the wind, that is -24F. It is also supposed to snow, which is just a kick in the pants at that temperature. right now outside it is -35C which is -31F. Damn arctic winds.

OUlioness01 02-16-2003 10:56 AM

it hasn't stopped snowing for more than an hour in 3 days....i miss the ground. shouldn't they cancel class tomorrow if we have more than a foot and not a single sidewalk has been cleared?

Peaches-n-Cream 02-17-2003 01:31 AM

It is snowing in New York City. Actually, it has been snowing from Washington, DC area to the Northeast. We are expecting 12 to 24 inches. It will be the worst blizzard since 1996. Stay warm!

angelic1 02-17-2003 02:02 AM

I havent seen the ground in a while now.. haha.. but its a great day tomorrow. This is the first time in a long time (i think it would be neat to find out.. ) that VT has cancelled classes. The roads are complete ice.. ice and sleet hasnt stopped coming down since last night. Though it sucks to be stuck inside. :(

sugar and spice 02-17-2003 03:02 AM

This winter has been so strange. I'm not used to this -- I've lived in Wisconsin nearly all my life and I'm not used to everybody else getting blizzards and snow days while here, the temperature is hovering around 30. Not that I miss the foot and a half of snow being dropped on us overnight, or the -40 windchills . . . :D

KappaTarzan 02-17-2003 06:22 AM

i can send you enough snow to build an igloo. it is -5 right now, has been down to -30 in the past week.. UGH.. now are getting 12 inches of snow tomorrow. only good part is probably no school tuesday :D

aephi alum 02-17-2003 10:23 AM

It's snowing here too ... we're expecting 12-24 inches.

Oh well... I have food, I have water, I have heat, I have high-speed internet access... where am I going? ;)

Stay warm, everyone. :)

Munchkin03 02-17-2003 12:07 PM

I think I'm going outside to build an igloo...I have not seen the ground since January 6th. We are on midwinter break today and tomorrow, so no school for me anyway. :p Luckily, my job shut down today! Woo hoo!

Nikki_DZ 02-17-2003 12:30 PM

13 1/2 inches in my back yard, plus a drift that we estimate to be about 8 feet high. Oy. I'ma startin' to get cabin fever!!! ;)

It does snow in North Texas. It's rare to see more than a couple of inches, and sometimes weather conditions are such that the stuff doesn't stick for very long. Most times it's accompanied by ice.

When it comes to snow and ice driving, ya might as well forget about it in Dallas and stay home... too many ya-hoos in their SUV's getting in wrecks because they dont know how to drive in snow and ice!

We've dodged the proverbial bullet this year in Dallas snow and ice-wise (thanks to El Nino) but who's to say next year we get a real sh*t-storm?

I'm worried more about March through May (the height of tornado season in the Plains).

Steeltrap 02-17-2003 12:51 PM

I'm in SoCal

And we don't get any snow here. Last time I saw any significant snow was in 1992 or 1993 in K-town (Knoxville), where I was living and working at the same place where GCer Silverblue is.

LuaBlanca 02-17-2003 12:59 PM

i ADORE the snow, don't get me wrong...but I'm sure KappaTarzan and aephi alum will agree that since most of the streets around here weren't really *treated* from the first few trillion times it has snowed this season, this added 12-24 inches is only going to be cause for some seriously poor driving conditions...!

The last time I saw this much snow was back in '96 when we had a snow day on April Fool's Day...i thought that was pretty funny...but this season really takes the cake with the inSANE amount of snowfall. (We haven't *really* had significant snowfall in a couple of years.)

texas*princess 02-17-2003 01:08 PM

*sigh* I sure wish it would snow here again :p

Although I'll be making a trip to Missouri in a couple of weeks.. maybe I will get lucky and it will snow there so I can finally make my snow angel and my snowman :D

IowaHawkeye 02-17-2003 01:12 PM

this is ridiculous... my sister at the University of Maryland had no school today b/c of the snow! I'm so jealous... i wish i was still curled up in bed :(

KSigkid 02-17-2003 01:39 PM

We don't have classes on President's Day anyways, but...

It's a blizzard here...the snow wasn't supposed to come until late afternoon/early evening, and already it's crazy outside.

OUlioness01 02-17-2003 02:53 PM

we're still on level 3 snow emergency!!!!!!! they took all the snow away with bulldozers but the snow came back and i still can't see college street.

lifesaver 02-17-2003 05:02 PM

Its 65 & sunny here.

:) Supposed to be in the mid 70's by the middle of the week. :)

During the "Great Snowball Riot of 1968" (Well, I think it was '68) which happened just before everyone left for break, a bunch of kids rolled HUGE snowballs -- which turned to ice -- and blocked Union Street in front of Baker Center. The Athens Police got the state to send two road graders down the street at a fairly high speed to move the offending spheres. One of the huge ice balls just bounced into -- and totally trashed -- some poor soul's car which was parked in front of the College Green.

aephi alum 02-17-2003 11:52 PM

OK, it's 10:45pm and we have at least 18 inches of snow on the ground and it's still falling. My driveway was plowed out about an hour ago, and it's snowed under again.

*grrr* I need an SUV... or maybe just a dog sled...

Peaches-n-Cream 02-18-2003 03:28 AM

We are buried in about two feet of snow in New York City.

Stay safe and warm everyone. :)

texas*princess 02-18-2003 07:17 PM

Woohoo 4 SNOW DAYS!!!

Ok.. so it's not snowing here in the DFW Metroplex, but hey it feels like a snow day to me!!!

Two of my professors were in the New York area during the weekend and their flights have been cancelled and maybe even delayed for another day or so. Which is really bad, but I have to admit I had a good day. Since those two classes were cancelled, I came back to my place and cleaned up a LOT and studied for my LSAT. woohoo 4 snow!!!

Much better than learning about stats or databases :p
