Name something different (to you) that you own

I have an autographed basketball from Michael Jordan.

(Mid-80s) It was the last day of my summer (sports) internship at the Detroit Free Press. A Nike-sponsored event had Jordan in town with a few Pistons (Dumars, Rodman, etc...)

Getting the autograph was totally unprofessional (as I was a reporter) but it was the last day of the internship, so I was getting the autographed ball. :) MJ was actually pretty chilled, easy to talk to. He and Joe Dumars were just regular dudes.

....I think the ball's in a closet off of my family room.

Nope. I've had her for almost 7-years. :)

Is her name adapted from "Charlotte's Web?" ...if so, I think I feel some kinda way about that. :)

That was a great book from my childhood. Still makes me sad, Charlotte gettng ready to pass away and having Wilbur watching out for her pending offspring.

....geez, Cheerful, you're about to bring down my morning. Charlotte was boss! :)

Yep. I pick her up all the time. It's a little more difficult now, because she's bigger than my hand, so I have to hold her with both hands. I mean, as long as she's not ready to molt, she doesn't mind being held.

She was. I saw the movie when I was a kid. It was sad at the end, but she was so giving. I loved the moral of the story.

How much do you think that ball is worth? Probably a lot, huh? :)

Don't really know. Depending on if MJ is a big autograph signer or not, my ball could have some value.

Funny thing is I've never, even as a kid, been "autograph guy." Now, if I run into you at Cedar Point, I'm likely getting an autograph then. :p

You should get it appraised just to see what it's worth. You might be surprised. I mean, especially it being signed by Michael Jordan.

We'll have to exchange autographs. I'll print out one of your posts in D&R random, so you can sign it for me. :p

But you and TonyB06 can add me to the Cheerful/Tony autograph session, because y'all rocked the house in the D&R thread lol.

I have an 8" x 27" Peanuts strip autographed by Charles Schulz.

Sciencewoman 04-25-2014 04:38 PM

I have a tracing of Larry Bird's hand. A friend of mine who writes science textbooks and trains teachers to use the books sat next to him on an airplane about 15 years ago and she asked him to trace his hand on a piece of 8.5 by 11 paper, so she could share it with teachers for graphing area. His hand fills the whole page.

Continuing on the subject of sports, I have two baseballs from Game 2 of the 2007 World Series that the Red Sox won, one hit by David Ortiz during batting practice and another one hit by some Rockies player-I couldn't see who it was from the outfield.

Sciencewoman, that is incredibly cool.

I own a piece of the Meadowlands floor from the 1996 National Championship game.

I have a book autographed by Pearl Bailey! Years ago, my aunt and I were in some store in LA and we came around a corner and there she was with a table of books! Only no one else was in line to buy her book and we all talked for awhile, which was really cool.

I have a Barenaked Ladies drum stick that was thrown into the crowd at the end of the concert and hit me hard in the ribcage as well as a puck from some frozen 4 in Worcester probably 8 years ago (BC and Minnesota maybe?) that the boyfriend at the time, now husband caught right before it hit me in the head. I should avoid populated events with the possibility of getting hit by projectiles....

I once nearly got my head crushed by a foul ball at an Orioles game because I was still in the middle of field hockey season at the time and my instinct was not to duck but to let the ball hit me so I could deflect it. If my dad hadn't pushed me out of the way I probably would have died. I still have that ball too:D

I have a Mars Pathfinder Stamp autographed by Astronaut James Lovell (Apollo 13). :) It's 1 of 5000, so there are a lot of them out there, but I love it. :)
