The Bernie Mac Show

It begins tonight! I hope it's funny.

Total Elegance 11-14-2001 08:51 PM

Thanks for reminding...what time?

AKAtude 11-14-2001 08:52 PM

8:30 pm and 9:00 pm

EASTERN TIME (I had to add.)

Now TUDE knows erebody don't live over there by her. :D

CrimsonTide4 11-14-2001 10:08 PM

BRO MAN from the 5th Floor is back

I like it. I will keep watching. Bro Man is doing it.

AKAtude 11-14-2001 10:37 PM

I just like Bernie Mac so I'll keep watching. I wanted to smack that Vanessa a couple of times myself.

CrimsonTide4 11-14-2001 10:45 PM

Not only that but pissy boy. The whole time I was watching I was reminded of the part of his Kings of Comedy routine where he talks about them. Hiiiiiiilarious.

Vanessa betta go on somewhere calling Social Services. Then she killed me in ep #2 telling the brother "Tell him to get me some orange juice." Oh no Miss Lady, you can't ask me then I sure ain't going to get it.

ClassyLady 11-14-2001 11:20 PM

I don't watch regularly scheduled television that much, but I will definitely be tuning in to it again next week.

Those little kids were a mess.

At first, I didn't like the little pop-ups but they did get pretty funny towards the end of the show.

At first I didn't like the pop-ups either. When I first watch new shows I have a "I don't like it" attitude until the show proves otherwise. During the first 15 minutes I was saying to myself, Bernie you're funnier than this, but as time went on it got better.

The funniest parts to me
When the social worker was asking him about cursing in front of the children about the big ass doughnut.
When he and the little girl was playing with the doll and she was teaching him how she should walk and talk.
And finally, when she was reading the story and he turned into an old man.

I'll watch the show next week for sure .....that's Bernie Mack so of course I'll tune in.

tickledpink 11-15-2001 05:28 AM

Missed it!

Dang, I had to work!!!

DST Love 11-15-2001 10:35 AM

I thought it was very funny. Both episodes. As far as I'm concerned, Bernie is definitely 'keepin' it real' with this show. He's as funny on the show as he is doing is comedy routine (except cleaner, of course). I hope it does real well and I hope Black people give it a chance and support it.

I was thinking the same thing, about him being funnier than that. I sat through both episodes waiting for Bryana to say, "I want some milk and cooooookies." That mess was hilarious, but alas, it didn't happen.

I thought the show was pretty funny. The spreading of the germs was funny! The barbie part was hilarious, too. Bryana reminded me of me when I was little, talkin' 'bout some, "Uncle Bernie, you hurt my feelings." LOL!!

I also liked how he kept saying America, that was too funny. "I'm talkin' to America right now." LMAO!

ChaosDST 11-15-2001 12:12 PM

Well, I was disappointed by the show...to the point where I couldn't watch the second episode. The first episode warranted a chuckle or two...but, it was all-out funny like I'm used to Bernie being. First, I was like...how many times is she going to say "Bernie Mac?" We know his name...just say "Bernie."
Maybe the show will grow on me...but, I think I'll have to get used to it because (1) he can't curse (I guess I'm just remember the Kings of Comedy) and (2) it's not the typical sitcom format (no laughing "people" in the background). I personally think he was funnier on Moesha and whatever other show(s) he used to come on.

lovelyivy84 11-15-2001 01:29 PM

I really liked it.

I missed the first episode, so maybe that one wasn't great, but I thought the second one was funny.

I will definitely be supporting Bernie this season!(nothing else on that I want to watch in that time slot...Drew Carey ain't funny anymore!)

It did very well in the ratings too, coming in first in its time slot (most people watched the second ep though, I guess we all thought that one was funnier).

I think that it will definitely take some getting used to, cuz like you said, it's not a typical sitcom. He was on Howard Stern (I don't listen, lol, I just heard) talking about how his show is just his real life, put in TV form. So maybe his wife calls him that all the time? I lightweight tripped off of that, too.

But what she did say that was funny was when she was talkin' about her job... "They don't play that, they're AT&T." That was funny.

If it IS realistic, his wife still works? And for AT&T? Would you work if your man was rich? And I don't mean community service, I mean a job, lol. I would quit, lol. :)

kiml122 11-15-2001 01:42 PM

I didn't really care for episode one. Something was missing, and I thought he was trying way to hard. I didn't watch episode 2 but I did tape it. ( I turned to Felicity:D )

But I will watch and support the show just like I did with My Wife and Kids, and that show has gotten a little better to me.

You don't listen to Howard Stern...suuuure (okay, we believe you...LOL)
I think the show will grow on me. I like Bernie Mac, so I'll support his show.
Now, can I just take a sidebar and mention My Wife and Kids. I have been TRYING to let that show grow on me. NO matter HOW MUCH I like Damon Wayans...I just CAN'T get used to Tisha Campbell's poodle hair style. Yes, it's distracting...and it's the reason why I haven't been able to enjoy the show :p

SoTrue1920 11-15-2001 02:17 PM

It's on up against the West Wing here, so I don't think I'll be watching it unless there's a WW re-run on, but I did switch over during one of the commercials. I saw the bit with the homeless guy who said he hadn't eaten in two weeks and Bernie replied "You ain't missing nothing... it still tastes the same!" :D

CJUS 11-15-2001 02:22 PM

Bernie Mac

I am sorry guys, but the show was not hitting at all with me or my associates. It was fake and it wasn't funny at all. I thought that it was going to be funny like the Steve Harvey Show. It seemed to me like he was trying to give illustrations on how germs traveled. To me it seemed basically a kid show instead of an adult show. I think the producers could have had more originality in writing the script. It's either the actors, producers, or writers. Something needs to change.

It is definitely DIFFERENT. I'm definitely NOT feeling the subtitles, little illustrations, etc. I THOUGHT it was going to be like Steve Harvey...but I'm willing to give him another chance. If the ratings were really good, they aren't going to make any changes just yet, though.

CJUS 11-15-2001 02:38 PM

:) Yeah, I guess I will give it another chance. I was so glad that they gave him his own sitcom, but it wasn't Bernie character.

We interrupt this regulary scheduled program.....

Kim, what happened on Felicity? Did they finally have the big showdown? Did Ben find out that Felicity tipped out with Noel?

Now back to our regulary scheduled program...

I thought the show was okay. I luvs me some Bernie and like most of you, I'm used to the cursing. I did fall off my chair when he turned into an old man listening to Brianna read that story.... Could I not identify!? I just hope they keep his pants on him in the remaining shows. I mean really, I don't wanna see no grown azz man running with his pants down around his ankles (unless it's like Mekhi Pfiefer (?sp)

I love Felicity, so it was hard for me to miss the first half. Ben found out and Noel went to tell Felicity that he "accidentally" told Ben. I really don't like Ben so I was gloating when Noel told him, but he deserved it.

Ben kept telling Noel how he will never have Felicity and Noel said he already did. However, Ben thought he was talking about freshman year, and Noel quickly set the record straight.

I saw previews for next week when Felicity tells Megan, and she says it's about time!

Mz. Sports Luva 11-15-2001 04:22 PM

LOVED IT!!!!!

The 2nd episode was funnier than the 1st one and I thought the way they showed the germ-spreading was very creative.

It was kinda weird not hearing him say his famous word though.

Anyway, I will be watching every Wednesday nite!

AKAtude,

I agree with you on not liking that damn Ben. I was glad that Noel "accidentally" told Ben. Next weeks' episode is going to be oh so good.

Now back to Bernie Mac, I thought episode 2 was a little better, but it still has to grow on me. I was totally disgusted though seeing him run down the hall with his pants at his ankles.

Now moving over to My Wife and Kids, I was thinking the same thing last night about Tisha's hair. I was like can't they give her a straight wig or weave or whatever she is wearing cuz all that curly hair ain't hitting on a damn thing. :p

DSTSolo01 11-15-2001 07:48 PM

Mixed feelings.........

I definitely had mixed feelings about the show. I was expecting a lot more, though. It definitely gave me chuckles here and there, but it wasn't the Bernie I was used to. I mean, I am used to having a stomach cramp, can't breath whenever i am listening to Bernie. But I didn't feel that way last night. I think the fact that the show has kids on it limits it, as in he can't tell the adult jokes that he's famous for. In my opinion, it should have been structured more like Martin, an adult show. I'm still giving the BMS the benefit of the doubt, but they definitely need to come a little bit better than that!(IMO, of course)

I liked it. I paid more attention to the 2nd episode than the first.

I love Bryanna and Bernie's rapport.
I loved the part where they were playing "parade".

The show is a keeper for me.

But I NEVER like the Steve Harvey show that much

My family has relatives and family friends that we just have to use the person's whole name. It just comes naturally. My deceased grandfather was one of those people. Everyone still refers to him as Jim Owens. I also have uncles and cousins to this day that we call by their first and last names. Maybe that is how people really do refer to him.

The Steve Harvey show has gone down. I loved the first season when Romeo was with the little Latin Spitfire -- Sophia and her friend who was the actress diva in traininig.

The Steve Harvey show is so unrealistic when it comes to teaching. It just is. I have never seen my principal do the things that Regina does. Lovita should have been fired.

Romeo and Bullethead should have been out of that school.

At times the show is great but @ others it is too over the top. Yet they got rid of FOR YOUR LOVE:rolleyes:

AKA2D '91 01-23-2002 06:20 PM

um um um (maybe it's a rerun ?)

Can you believe Oprah had Bernie on the show? She dedicated an ENTIRE hour to Bernie, his upbringing, the show and his role in Ocean's 11. (BTW, has anyone seen it? is it good?)

Bernie tripped me out...Oprah asked him why were all of the kids living in the same room in that BIG house? Oprah said that Gayle  wanted to know or that she and Gayle were talking about it. So, Bernie says they lived in the same room because the kids were place there in his care "all of a sudden". This is the tripped out part...Bernie tells Oprah to tell Gayle to "mind her own business" (joking, of course) and says for Gayle to "stay out of his..." (joking, of course) ;)

That was funny. :D

I agree...Tonight was a laugh out loud show! Tavis Smiley does an hour long program on ...darn what is the name that they give the PBS of radio? Shoot...can't believe I can'remember it! Anywhoo..the show is syndicated, and it come on WCLK in ATL from 7 -8 a.m. On a recent show he mention that BM and Wife and Kids are the first predom. African-American shows that have significant cross over. I used to the MWAC was corny, but I watched if for probably the 2nd time tonight and it was pretty funny!

AKA2D '91 01-23-2002 11:17 PM

Ya'll, Bernie Mac's show is the highest rated Fox show. Critics have given the show high praise too. I think it will be on next season.

He discussed how these stars have called him wanting to do appearances on the show. He mentioned that Halle had just shot an episode.

I guess he's really making it, since he landed 60 minutes on Oprah. Has Oprah had Damon Wayans on the show yet?

Bernie also discussed how he wanted the kids on the show to LOOK like him. He didn't want them to look like the kids on the other shows...you know light, bright...Damon near white. ( no offense to the light, bright, even white folks, but we know what he's talking about). Why did dayum change the daughter on his show? The first one was darker, the new one is lighter.

NOTE: I don't watch Oprah. I got home after 3pm, when I turned my TV on, the last channel that I had it on was the channel that shows Oprah, so that's how I knew he was on.

I meant Damon, not dayum... Where was my mind last night?

LMAO @ myself!
