University of South Florida Rush 09!
Rush at the University of South Florida starts in about ONE week!!! I can’t express how excited I am to meet all the sororities and my ΠΧ group! Today was the first day of classes and there were so many greeks wearing their letters that it made me even more pumped up for FR! I even talked to a ΠΧ today about recruitment (by the way the ΠΧ tote bags are very cute!). It was very brief because I am assuming they will discuss everything at the mandatory Orientation night.
There are 8 NPC sororities at my campus: Alpha Delta Pi (ΑΔΠ) Alpha Omicron Pi (ΑΟΠ) Chi Omega (ΧΩ) Delta Delta Delta (ΔΔΔ) Delta Gamma (ΔΓ) Kappa Delta (ΚΔ) Sigma Delta Tau (ΣΔΤ) Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) I saw in one recruitment story thread that someone did planets (redsweetpea I believe), so I decided to do astrological signs. In no particular order I have decided to use: Capricorn Saggitarius Leo Taurus Gemini Scorpio Virgo Aries BUT I had an interest in rushing non-NPC sororities/fraternities, Pisces, and while I was on campus today I was approached by a few girls from Libra and I'm going to be honest... I was truly happy being around them and felt comfortable talking to them, as if I knew them for years. These sororities/fraternities have rush about the same time as NPC sororities do, so to decide on which I should rush is hard since I have already met some girls from Libra that were just AMAZING, but I want to give each NPC chapter a chance, including Pisces... |
Good luck! I am not sure how USF rush works or how their sororities work (being as I'm not in an NPC sorority and I don't go to USF) but I was in a non-NPC co-ed Fraternity and some of our Brothers were also in NPC sororities...so if you want to do BOTH, you probably could. I'd just say do the NPC rush first, because from what I understand, upperclassmen have a harder time recieving bids.
If anyone else knows better, please correct me. |

Congrats on going through USF recruitment. All of the girls in Panhellenic have worked really hard with workshops and everything to make sure this expierence is amazing for you!
Both Twinkle555 and I hail from the Gamma Theta chapter of AOII @ USF :) I hope you find the home that fits you the best! If you need anything please let us know. I am one of the recruitment advisors and Twinkle555 was a IIX as well. |

It's just that today took me by shock because I never even heard of Libras, everything was really unexpected. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going through formal recruitment and still waiting anxiously to meet all the chapters! Alphalove13----- When I was talking to a ΠΧ she told me how exhausting the past couple of weeks have been with recruitment! I'm sure recruitment will turn out great and I must say that twinkle555 has helped me tremendously with my annoying recruitment questions lol. I just hope your right and I do find a home. |

I'm gonna root for Aries, since that is my boyfriends sign, and Sagittarius, since it is mine! So stoked for you girl!! <3 Have fun at the upcoming info nights and remember to keep your heart and mind open! P.S- I'm no expert on UGC, but I am pretty sure you can't be in a UGC AND a NPC sorority...even if you could, that sounds superrrrr time consuming! |

you can be in a co-ed (honors, service etc) and NPC or UGC.
http://www.usfugc.com/ www.usfpanhellenic.com usfgreeklife.com - for all greek life information Let me know if you have any questions. Like Twinkle555 said, keep your heart and mind open and you will meet some amazing girls in all the organizations here @ USF. |
Woohooo Go Bulls. I'm a Chi O alum from there. Good luck with recruitment... it's going to be really hard to choose though because ALL the houses are filled with amazing women :)
Twinkle- This whole doing recruitment during school thing is new to me, how does it work out? I understand in order to get more girls interested in GL it's good to have it when school has already started but I cannot imagine how hard it must be for the sister's pulling all nighter's and going to class. I know from recruitment before classes began it was an all day and most of the night ordeal (granted I was on exec) but still draining. |
Friday-Spirit Day
Sat- Phil. Day Sun- Sisterhood Day Monday (Morning/Afternoon)- Pref Day Monday (Night)- Bid Day Monday is Labor Day so everyone has off. Friday is a bit tricky because some people do have classes, so we have to miss sisters and sometimes PNMs because of this. They come back later in the day. |
I see no Cancer :( My sign gets no lovin'. But I'll be rooting for Capricorn!

The disaffiliated women also had the extra possibiltity of having classes with our own sisters or other sorority women we were friends with...it really sucked sitting all by myself in my night class when one of my sisters and a SDT friend were 3 rows up :( This year it will only be chaotic on Friday (last yr we had 2 Spirit Day's), the rest of the week is over Labor Day weekend! GO BULLS! |

court, my DH is a Cancer too. |
It actually makes sense, first off I hardly no any sisters (especially Juniors/Seniors) that took Friday classes, even by Subway at Cooper it was quiet. The only thing that is crazy is pref and bid on the same day, talk about turn around.
Good Luck to all the houses. I'm rooting for Virgo (my horoscope) and Gemini (my boyfriends). |
Im gonna have to root for Virgo as well(because we are the Coolest). Good Luck this week. I am not familar with USF recruitment, but almost any rush thread is a good rush thread.Gosh I miss my college days(Sigh!)

By the way... does anyone know the number of girls who are signed up for recruitment?
|
Well, I'm an aries and the boyfriend is a saggitarius so either one for me!
We have recruitment during school too. If a PNM has a class, we do not allow them to skip. Instead we form half parties so the girls are still able to visit every chapter and get to know the girls. Somehow Panhell found rho gammas to shuttle them around more or less. When I was a PNM I always had time for my homework, I just needed to schedule my time ridiculously well during recruitment. I can't say much about the sisters side as this is my first year recruiting, but I heard you have to really work on time management to fit it all in. |
Wow, i didn't know any other USF greeks were on here lol (GO BULLS!!!). Well good luck whichever route you decide to take. Being that my org is a founding member of the Unified Greek Council of course i'd shove you in our direction lol, jk jk. But i hop everything works out for you either way :)

YEs that was me that did the planets! let us know how it turns out~! and good luck! go virgo!thats my bfs :)
|
as of last week the number of women signed up and paid was 280 according to Panhellenic.

I thought the number would be higher for some reason. (interesting)

Yeah I thought USF would have more people go through sorority rush than FIU, since its a larger school.
|
^^^I thought the same thing! But apparently most of our girls dont' even show up for the first day, so it evens out.

This year is the 1st year freshmen are required to live in dorms so hopefully it will help raise the numbers. Even though USF is a large school like Twinkle said it has had the commuter mentality, we are just starting to get away from that.

We're getting better, even though this year the # is a little less than last year's. According to a primary source (a rho gamma friend lol), 409 girls are rushing this year as opposed to about 450ish last year. Maybe it's the economy, but I think the rho gammas this year were kind of slacking. |

I've decided not to rush Libra and Pisces because both of their events collide with NPC rush. I hope I did not make the wrong decision:confused: I really did like the girls at Libra, but I knew in my heart that I wanted to join a NPC sorority and experience the craziness of rush and what would become of it. Will I get a bid or will I go home bidless? Formal Recruitment starts this Wednesday with a mandatory Sorority Info night, I believe we get to meet a few girls from each sorority as well as our ΠΧ . Thursday is a night out with the ΠΧ group and the ΠΧ. Then the schedule is as follows (as Alphalove13 stated ;)): Friday, September 4th: Spirit Day Saturday, September 5th: Philanthropy Day Sunday, September 6th: Sisterhood Day Monday, September 7th (morning-afternoon): Preference Day Monday, September 7th(night): Bid Day!:) |
Good luck! Virgo is my sign so that's what I'll be rooting for :) I believe BF is a Cancer so no rooting for his sign... Both parents and my aunt are a Gemini so I'm okay with that too though :)

First of all, I would just like to say that I LOVE my ΠΧs!!!!!!!!!<3 I cannot imagine going through recruitment without the ΠΧs that I have. They are so informative, fun to be around and so full of energy. They have taken care of my ΠΧ group so well and answered all our questions and I don't think there was a day when my ΠΧs were not smiling every time we saw them. Even after rush I want to keep in contact with my ΠΧs. I just hope they feel the same way as I do.:(
Today we had our ΠΧ outing and we got to mingle with our ΠΧ group before formal recruitment starts and tomorrow, I have to wake up at the crack on dawn to get dressed/ready for SPIRIT DAY!!!Our ΠΧ group leaves in the morning, I know other ΠΧ groups start later in the afternoon. I really want to share a more detailed story with everyone on GC, but I have decided to not write my story until Bid Day is over. Actually, everyday I come back from a recruitment day I write in a Word Document my feelings and opinions of each sorority. I have already started with my Info Night and my ΠΧ Outing. :D All I really have to do is copy and paste on here lol. I hope you all look forward to hearing my story and please let me know who you are rooting for!! |
that's a great plan. best wishes to you!

Question answered. Thanks GCers =)
