Kinda funny, but more stupid

Someone asked me if AKAs only accepted light-skinned girls. Considering that I am not light-skinned and she was looking right at me, I thought that was a pretty stupid question. I had to pause for a second, hoping she would figure it out on her own. Nope.

DSTdimepiece 02-14-2007 12:27 PM

Do I have to be at the entire Rush?

NUPE4LIFE 02-15-2007 06:42 PM

This didn't happen to me but my best friend who is an AKA. One Sunday while leaving church a lady came up to her and said if she could speak to her off the record (LMAO). So they says I understand you're an AKA, well I have always wanted to be an AKA but I didn't know how to go about it. So my friend tells her that she's a member of the graduate chapter. The woman ask if graduate means that you have to have a degree. So my friend tells her yes you have to have a degree among other things to be considered for membership. The woman then tells my friend emphatically that she has a degree. THE LADY HAD A NAIL TECH DEGREE FROM A TECHNICAL SCHOOL!!! I was ROTL!!! :D

1908Revelations 02-17-2007 01:27 PM

Since I am mearly a neo I don't have any really funn stories, but a girl asked one of my LS will Rush be posted on the Facebook, or Myspace, because she wanted to be prepared.

I don't know how prepared she wanted to be, but we had only been members for a month at the time, so I guess she thinks intake is done every quarter or something.

Another girl saw me talking to a Delta, she had her pin on. I had on my AKA pin which she had to have seen and she asked were we in the same chapter. I just gave the most blank stare I could come up with.

poeticace 02-17-2007 02:00 PM

This has been by non-greeks & certain greeks too

Our sign very closely resembles the Blood sign... so that whole gang thing is ALWAYS brought to us. Seriously though? When done right, I still can't find the damn "B" that the REAL bloods throw up, lol... if you care to see the sign just go to lambdapsidelta.org, Eventually you'll see pictures of Sorors throwing it up.

& people like to act ignorant about our letters too (THIS has been from a lot of GREEKS... go figure) L-Y-D is actually what's spelled out when you try to write it on a computer without symbol fonts. We sometimes are referred to as LpsiD, so people like to take it upon themselves to call us "LSD." lol, it makes no damn sense when you really think about it, but that's some bored peoples for you.

wow how embarassing... did she say that outright or did she show up to rush with a copy of it? man how do you confront that without embarassment?

PhrozenGenius 02-20-2007 01:26 PM

This past weekend...

At another chapter's party about a week or so ago, this cat that I had JUST MET that night said, "Yo PG, come here lemme holla at you." I'm like ok, I'll see what he wants.

He attends an institution with a chapter that's known to "go hard" and alot of members of that chapter were standing near me.

He says, "PG, look me in my eyes."

I'm like ok?

"Nah, forreal, look me in my eyes!"

I'm like, what's the deal dude? He says...

"I just wanted you to see what a man that was BORN to pledge Alpha looks like."

MY jaw hit the floor....the brethren damn near lost it! We laughed about it afterwards, but ummm...lets just say it was tense

I'm sorry everyone, but I had to be mean:mad: . I kindly replied. "Ok...If your right eye would stop arguing with your left eye (she was terribly cross-eyed) you would be able to see that our sign is the diamond, not OK. And as far as Kappas not being smart, you were a sophomore when I was a freshman and now I'm a senior and you're a junior. I wonder what that makes you?"

Family

 I'm 25 and my younger cousins (19 and 20 yrs old) go to a university and they want to be AKAs in the worst way. I really only see them on holidays and at family functions but they actually try to skee-wee and throw up the mirror  I'm insulted and I'm a DELTA! I keep telling them to stop because they run across an actual AKA and they're getting their asses kicked. I have a few friends from college who could help in the matter.

I guess the funny story part of this is that:
1. at Christmas, i found out their university chapter of AKA has been off the Yard since b4 they got there for undergrad and won't be back until after they leave!!! ROTFLMAO. An older cousin (35) is a Sigma Gamma Rho and another who is an Alpha (32) found out too and we just looked at each other and shook our heads. They want us all to step on demand.. then have the AUDACITY to try to call me out b/c i choose not to be trained circus monkey

2. they haven't read anything pertaining to Divine Nine at all. i highly doubt they even know the AKA founders. we try to give a little advice. READ!!! COMMUNITY SERVICE!! they don't want to do grad chapter b/c they want the whole stepping and party experience. I know it's mean to say but I wouldn't want them to be part of anybody's org. IDIOTS!!

SisterGreek, it might be mean, but your sentiments are real. Please don't feel bad knowing that your cousins insist on being foolish when they have three Greeks in the family that can give them valuable advice.

I wish I had more silliness to contribute to the thread, but it's been pretty normal around these parts lately.

KAPPAtivating 04-24-2007 09:49 AM

Yesterday, one of my students says, "Hey, you know that Kappa jacket you got...I'll buy it off you!" As if that wasn't bad enough...after I explain that you can't buy it from me, you have to earn it, he says, "when I go to school next year I'mma be a Kappa!" However, the sad part is that he threw up the Que sign and started barking!

LMABO! Are you serious? There are so many things wrong with that whole conversation. You should have at least directed him to youtube and told him to correct himself before he does that in front of the wrong person and gets merked on. Maybe print out a "What Not to Do" thread from here... I'm weak.

luvmypearls 04-30-2007 08:04 PM

I am new to Greekdom (initiated March 18, 2007), so I didn't think I would have anything to contribute to this thread for a while...well here I go.

I met this guy about two weeks ago and he has been calling me nonstop since I gave him my number. Well he called me as I was on my way home from a meeting last week. I told him that I was in the car with one of my sorority sisters and that I would have to call him back. He asked what sorority I was in and I proudly told him Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. He responds "I am in a fraternity too, so we have something in common". I ask which one and he says Alpha Phi Beta. I am like okay, let me call you back. So, I google this fraternity as soon as I get home and all I came up with is a law fraternity at the University of the Phillipines. The next time I spoke with him, I asked him about Alpha Phi Beta and was he part of a law fraternity? He says no, that was my high school fraternity. I am like  , is he really representing his high school "fraternity" because he has to be at least forty?

LOL i have a similar story, yesterday actually this happened:

i was wearing a pin yesterday and the teller at the bank asks me what it's for. i tell him im in a sorority, i tell him which one, and he's like ok cool.

about an hour later i had to go back to the bank for something else, and why does this dude start throwing up the hooks and barking at me???? mind you it's a bunch of yt's in the bank and he's barking at me! so i'm quietly like, "im not a Que so that's not my sign - sorry"

that dude looked real disappointed. i guess asking me to step in the the middle of the bank and do my call was his way of getting on my good side? i think not.

and sistergreek Lyoness - i so feel you: not everyone is cut out to be a(n) XYZ. i have friends/family members that i shake my head on and dont feel any types of way about it.

These weren't exactly said to me, but was anyone at the stepshow at Northeastern a couple weeks ago? Free (106 & Park) hosting...a mess...

And I quote:

Kappas: "Yo yo!
Free: "Yeah, yo yo! All a that."

Alphas: "A Phi! 06!"
Free: "06? Where's the class of 07 at?"

"Who do y'all want to win, Alpha Kappa, Delta Sigma, or Sigma Gamma Rho?"
(Called us this about 5 times)

Also imitated frat calls and steps all day and called sorority members "sorors". She tried to imitate the leaning back and yelling "INNNNNNcorporated" but didn't realize that the whole word is used, and kept saying "INNNNK!" We all just shook our heads.

Thanks so much. I thought it was just me. Sorry if I offended anyone out there. It's just so frustrating. I really love my family but I can't stand it when I see them doing something the wrong way and I might be able to help and they just won't listen. Sigh.

I can't believe Free doesn't know about Greek organizations.

For me the oddest/craziest thing wasn't said it was an event.

I live in Minnesota and Greekdom is not as prevalent here as it is in other cities. So, I was in Cub foods grocery shopping one day. All of a sudden I saw an African male wearing a sweater with the greek symbols Delta Sigma Theta on it. I was STUNNED! I went to him and asked where he got his sweater and his English was so broken that he couldn't really answer the question. I could not believe that.

Also it trips me out when people read my greek symbols and say, what does A, E, O mean.

I was at work and this little boy (5th grade) waled into my classroom with an AOPi hooded sweatshirt. I asked him were he got it, he couldn't remember. When I told him what AOPi was he was mad he had been walking around with that sweatshirt on. There are other greeks that work at the school I wonder why they didn't tell him.

This example is why sorors should either have a bonfire or give their stuff to another soror.

But I also know a soror who says AEO instead of DST.
