White_Chocolate 04-01-2003 10:21 AM

I'm a believer! I've never seen a team play OU like that! They say it's a fluke but Cuse has destroyed everyone they've come up against in the tournement so far.

White_Chocolate 04-01-2003 12:07 PM

you're just saying that because ok people hate texans:p

I just don't like UT.. They're just obnoxious (at games at least)... stuck on themselves and usually treated WAY too well by the media (ie. overrated). It's the school that beat up on a bunch of little TX teams last year like TCU and UNT then boasted they had the #1 offense and #2 defense while REAL teams in the same conference (A&M and OU for example taking on the likes of VA Tech and 'Bama) traded easy wins for real challenges.

I'm actually a fan of other schools besides OU... I like OSU (strange, isn't it?) A&M and Nebraska -- the later two out of respect because the fans I've had contact with have been gracious individuals and you have to respect their tradition.

Mack Brown and company can't win big games, they avoid them.. They're cowards in my book.

doesn't that sound just cute?

i don't think so

Doesn't Texas play Syracuse first? If 'cuse plays like they did against OU the whorns don't stand a chance.

I'll tell ya what, i can root for any team in the Big XII except for the whorns and ITTech. Call it bad blood or whatever, but my experiences with individuals from both of those schools, has for the majority been bad. tu likes to point to the fact that they own our all-time vs. record, but what they won't admit is that from 1876 until the 1960's A&M was an all-male military school. Pretty dang hard to recruit NFL talent if they had to be in the Corps of Cadets while playing. I'm not saying that those games don't count, but that's about as impressive as saying that they own the Citadel. (NOTE: I LOVE the Citadel, my godfather wanted me there, but they are not a D1 powerhouse)

As far as being the media darlings, that's what we in Aggieland call the BOMC (Burnt Orange Media Conspiracy) :D

C'mon KU!! Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk (seriously, i need someone from KU to tell me what that means!)

Or the last 3 that the "#1 offense and #2 defense in the US" were owned by OU? 64-13(may favorite), 14-3 or 35-24?

I was at the last 2 and WISH I had been at the first one..

Some whornfans came down to cheer in the OU section and talk isht in the first half... they were gone by the second half:D

I'm a little worried about this year's game because OU doesn't have Chrissy Simms playing for us.

(what's up thread hijack?)

White_Chocolate 04-02-2003 03:50 PM

hey, i'm hijacking my own thread. . .so don't worry. . .we can talk about both. . .just say

basketball: texas is going to win against syracuse

football: chrissy simms. . .that's funny. i heard that he wants to play for the cowboys. could parcells have anything to do with that?

basketball: who are you rooting for in the final four since. . .(choking back a laugh) ou didn't make it in???

here is the meaning.....--from www.rockchalk.com

The Rock Chalk Chant is perhaps the most distinctive cheer in all of college sports. Some have likened it to a Gregorian chant, but anyone who has been in Allen Fieldhouse and heard the chant start low, then build and roll over the crowd knows that it is much, much more.

The "Rock Chalk" chant dates to 1866, when it was adopted by the University Science Club. A chemistry professor, E.H.S. Bailey and some of his associates were returning to Lawrence from Wichita on a train. As the story goes, they passed the time by trying to create a rousing cheer. The sound of the train's wheels on the rails suggested a rhythm and a cadence to them. At first, the cheer was "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KU" repeated three times.

Even though KU didn't have a football team until four years later, KU students quickly took up the chant. Later, an English professor suggested "Rock Chalk," in place of "Rah, Rah" because it rhymed with Jayhawk and because it was symbolic of the limestone, also known as chalk rock, surrounding Mount Oread, the site of the Lawrence Campus. It became the official cheer of the University in 1897.

Teddy Roosevelt pronounced the Rock Chalk Chant the greatest college chant he'd ever heard. It was used by Kansas troops fighting in the Philippines in 1899, the Boxer Rebellion in China, and World War II. At the Olympic games in 1920, the King of Belgium asked for a typical American college yell. The assembled athletes agreed on KU's Rock Chalk and rendered it for His Majesty.

The words to the chant are simple. "Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, KU" repeated five times. The chant is special not because of the words, but because of the tone in which it is chanted and the distinctive cadence in which each verse is delivered. The only way to really appreciate the chant is to sit in Allen Fieldhouse before a Missouri game.

---hope that answers all your questions!!!!

WHOOP!!!

Thanks wendi for the explanation!!

It's traditions like this, as well as the Fightin Texas Aggie 12th man, the Sooner Schooner, Ralphie the Buffalo, the Blackshirts, OU-tu weekend, etc. that make the Big XII unrivaled as the best conference in the nation!!!

Back to basketball, go KU!

Almost a repeat of last year! 1/2 the *best* conference in the NCAA made it to the Final 4. But this time Kansas went on! Good to see.. Not only did they go on, they kicked ass! Play like that and the Orangemen don't stand a chance..

As for 'cuse... it always warms my heart when the whorns lose. Thanks for that!

Tom Earp 04-06-2003 11:35 AM

ktsnake, I dont think it is fair to make fun of those other confrecences outside the BIG XII!!!!!!;)

It was just a gnats ass from being 4, count em troops, 4 Teams from the BIG XII in the final 4!

If I bet I think all know who I would bet on, but since I dont bet cause if I do, it is a sure jinx, I wont bet!! Get it? Oh well, it sounded good when I thought it!

Go, Go, Go, JayHawks!:D

Marquette is in the Conference USA. Syracuse is in the Big East. Only Kansas and Texas are in the Big XII.

I think what Tom was saying is that we were extremely close (a gnat's ass) to having the entire Final Four being from the Big XII.

I won't share his enthusiam that Mizzou could have made it out of their bracket, but i will say that it definatly shoulda been 3 of our teams there. I'd have liked to see a KU-OU Championship game.

OUKate 04-06-2003 07:19 PM

Believe me, I would have liked it too!

Of course, only if it had a different outcome than the last OU/KU national championship game. :)

What can I say, though? I guess I'm joining in with the Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk crew on Monday!

And as for football... I was at the spring scrimmage yesterday and as much as I hate to brag, our defense looks better than last year, and our offense looks like a new team compared to next year! We've gone 63-14, 14-3 and 35-24 in the last 3 OU/tx games, but I have a feeling that this year's going to be even more of a blowout!!

Still have to give props to another C-USA tema for making the final four!

So far for Big XII teams it's just been a question of when they had to play Syracuse.

Tee hee, ME TOO! (Figured if Arizona couldn't go all the way, at least I could root for the school that gave us Alpha Gam!)

Congrats to Syracuse! What a great game!

valkyrie 04-08-2003 11:49 AM

I really thought Kansas was going to win, but it was an awesome game and I'm glad Syracuse ended up winning (of course, Alpha Phi was also founded there). They really seemed like they wanted it more than the Kansas players, and Carmelo is such a cutie!!

Why do people in our own state hate us? I understand other states hating us, fine whatever......and I understand UofL hating us. But why should smaller schools in KY hate us?

Congrats to everyone that had a good bball year!
