Has anyone seen that episode of Friends where Rachel says she was a Kappa Kappa Delta? That's not a real sorority is it? I wonder how they came up w/ that name.

Measi 08-25-2004 02:19 PM

I have to find the link now, but on a goofy late night Googlefest, I searched for Tri-Lams, and did find a group--

It's an engineering co-ed fraternity at a midwestern college. :)

There's a Delta Nu women's organization in State Center, Iowa. I really have no clue what they're about as I moved out of that town 7 years ago. As far as I know they could be associated with the Delta Nu chapter of Alpha Chi Omega (the Iowa State Chapter).
I do know they give a scholarship each year to a graduating girl from the local high school.

Did anyone ever see that epsiode of Saved by The Bell the College Years where the whole gang decides to go Greek? I can't remember the name of the fraternity Screech ends up in or the one Kelly and her crazy roommate end up in though. But I do remember thinking it was so funny, because after Kelly and her roommate (can't remember her name) go CRAZY over two rival sororities and neither get in they suddenly get invited to join some other random sorority. And of course they are completely happy about it even though they have never even heard of the sorority. It's like okay, you don't even know who you rushed? OoOo the magic of television.

And i do remember that episode of 90210. I loved that episode! haha. I remember watching it and thinking "ooo I can't wait till I go to college and join a sorority!" I didn't watch that show in much depth when I was a kid ... completely missed the whole point about prejudice at the time.

The girls on Saved by the Bell end up rushing Pi Psi after the Theta's dump Kelly and the Beta Delta's dump Alex. I don't remember the name of the guys fraternity though.

What about Road Trip? I can't remember the names of the sorority and fraternity they visit...

In the movie Going Greek, they have the following ones: Iota Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Tau, and TriPi.

Actually, Harold Ramis, one of the writers of the movie, was a Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) at Washington University in St. Louis. The movie was based off of his experiences at school, as well as the other writer's (who went to Dartmouth). I don't know where the 'Chi' comes from in Delta Tau Chi....if you're right that the other fraternity was Delta Tau Delta.

The Chi comes from Delta Chi here at UW-Whitewater were John Belushi went to school at for a semster. He lived in what is the Delta Chi house. He was able to live there bc at that time it was the not the offical house.

Co-screenwriter Chris Miller based the National Lampoon short stories that gave rise to the film on his experiences in a fraternity at Dartmouth, from which he graduated in 1962:

"I was at Dartmouth in the early sixties and I belonged to the outlaw fraternity on campus at that time (Alpha Delta Phi). I always said that one day I was going to write the story of that experience. So, around 1974 or so, I started writing it as a novel and then the novel got cut up into chunks, which became short stories that ran in the Lampoon. The stories were documentary. They were cinema verite. When the script was written, the actual incidents that the two stories were about were the fraternity initiation that I underwent (The Night of the Seven Fires) and the experience I called Pinto's First Lay.

http://www.nationallampoon.com/flash...house/ah1.html

"I was Pinto in my fraternity. That was my name. In the movie, I think that Pinto is me as a pledge and Boon is me as a senior. All the other guys are guys that are so archetypal that everybody knows them. Everybody had friends like those other guys.

"I think the parts of the movie that were most true to my life were the road trip and what goes on during the road trip. In fact, the guy who was the original guy who tried to get a date with the dead girl was at the premiere. When the incident came on, he stood up and raised his hands in the air just like Rocky."

Now living in Venice, California, Miller said at the film's 25th Anniversary Reunion that he's writing a prequel to the movie. "We can't exactly do a sequel with the death of John Belushi," he said.

I saw the movie DRUMLINE (good movie btw) & I know that KKPsi does exist but the girls in the movie were part of a sorority. I'm not sure of the name but I think it was Alpha Sigma Phi Alpha. I could be totally off but I was curious as to if the name was right & if it actually did exist. I couldn't find any info on google.

Tom Earp 10-14-2004 05:39 PM

Wow, TSteven,

yow Dude. could not agree more, I was a short Ottor!

While did more to promote GreekDom, it seems to have hurt us as a Group.

I never thought of it that way myself. Always related with the experiences. Dean Wright was Wormer, Who wants to affiliate with yo with a 1.58 on a 4.0! Ha, his son joined us.

I too thought about writting a book about my experiences, but I figured, who in the hell would want to read it! Da Me!

Apparently it's a fraternity at Trinity:

But I do remember that episode :)

ASPA isn't the sister organization to KKPsi-- Tau Beta Sigma is. :)

I'm not sure why TBS wasn't in the movie, as it is the sorority for women in band. There must have been some issue with nationals. *shrug*

And yeah, it is a good movie.
