Also, even though almost everywhere requires whites at some point, your chapter may have lax dress code standards. I was fairly horrified to see what my chapter is now allowing for ceremonies - evidently, white skin-tight tanks, tube tops, miniskirts and white denim are okay (Ack!)

I'm right there with you, Lion Tamer. Bare midriffs may impress the guys across the street but they don't belong in ceremonial attire. As a province officer, I used to bring extra white dresses to convention and if any of my delegates were not suitably attired (meaning opaque and not something that should be worn to a club instead of church), they got to wear one of my extras for the Memorial service (no one from my province showed her purple polka-dot thong to the entire convention body!) That may be old-fashioned but a certain respect should be shown for the tradition of those ceremonies where we specify attire.

I was really surprised when I was going through my university's recruitment web site and looking at the recommendations of "what to wear." One of the video day outfits showed a girl in a 2 piece skirt and top. There was some unintentional tummy showing (she looked great, but it wasn't appropriate for the situation). And it was just enough where you could feel your skin exposed, so it wasn't like "Oh dear, how did I miss that?"

I'm a pretty recent alum and I find that pic a little disturbing. One girl in the back row looks like she's either wearing shorts or a micro-mini. :eek: And maybe I'm starting to get old-fashioned too, but is it that hard to cover your midriff for ritual?

Hey, but at least they're all wearing true white! That was always a challenge in my chapter. :rolleyes:

I think that specifics for ritual/pin attire should come from the national org and be VERY specific - I'm talking writing in the membership manual "skirts must be so and so length, pants must be linen or wool" etc. The "in good taste" just doesn't cut it.

Although maybe some of the girls in the skimpier tops were wearing them under the I Dream of Jeannie outfits. ;)

which everyone on GC knows is actually ASA initiation attire, (along with money-chain belts, curled-toe gold shoes, finger cymbals, and kohl eyeliner.)

We were told to cover shoulder, and knee length skirts or dresses. Pants definatly not allowed. And suits are highly reccomended for anyone doing anything with national, ie convention.

I can't believe some of those outfits, we were bad, but that was more like old, funky looking stuff sometimes. not hoochie mama whites

I should note that, hoochie-mama outfits or not, last year alone this chapter managed to raise over $170,000 for treatment of childhood cancers. What's amazing is that this total only allowed them to come in THIRD in our annual dance marathon! Not too shabby.

Now, if they could only dress a bit more conservatively for rituals.....

I saw more white dresses this weekend-- Delia's and Gap.

bealls ad in the sunday paper for the last two sundays has had inexpensive white dresses in the junior section.

I actually did get my white dress from Target. Call me cheap, but I looked everywhere, and everything I found was too big. The dress I ended up buying was still a little big, but it was better than what I had found at other stores.

Plus size Ladies! Old navy has a few white skirts/shirts out right now, and they have a white "slip dress" that is actually pretty cute (although I'd suggest like a wrap or whatnot to go over it since it's spaghetti strapped)
