R. KELLY'S CAMP ISSUES RESPONSES TO HIS ARREST: When read closely, statements might not help.
R. Kelly booking shot from his 01-22-03 arrest in Florida (Jan. 23, 2003) *We all know about R. Kelly's arrest yesterday in the Miami area on charges of child pornography. As we know, the singer is already in trouble for such a charge in Illinois. Kelly was detained after investigators allegedly found 12 photographs of a nude girl. Bond was set at $12,000. Immediately Kelly's camp responded with a statement. "At this point, it looks to us like a classic case of piling on, in which a local jurisdiction tries to make headlines by attaching itself to a celebrity case. As far as we can tell, the charges all relate to R. Kelly's arrest last summer. In other words, there is nothing new here." But Kelly's folks weren't through "attacking." Later in the day they issued another statement. "The more we learn about these new charges against R. Kelly, the fishier it all seems. For one thing, the pictures he is charged with possessing were not found in his personal possession or even in his house but in a recording studio some eight months ago. For another, they involve no new alleged misconduct but precisely the same allegations Kelly is fighting in Chicago. We can't help but wonder what has motivated the Polk County authorities to file charges that are essentially a rehash of a case being adjudicated in another jurisdiction. With Kelly's career on the upswing again, is it possible that they're more interested in publicity than in justice?" Hey R., you might want to read over your releases before your peeps send them out. Especially the second one. |
The prosecutor has asked for another extension in presenting its' case against R Kelly. They stated they needed to continue to have photos analyzed. The judge said he will grant one more 1 month extension. If the prosecution isn't ready by then the case could be ruled a mistrial and the R go free.

R. Kelly Compares Himself to Osama Bin Laden
R. Kelly Compares Himself to Bin Laden
Sat Sep 13, 9:11 AM ET NEW YORK - R. Kelly, who gained fame with songs such as "I Believe I Can Fly," now compares himself to Osama bin Laden (news - web sites). The R&B singer was indicted last year on child pornography charges after a videotape purportedly showed him having sex with an underage girl. Kelly, who's free on bond, has denied the charges. "People can say whatever they want about you without knowing the facts," Kelly tells Blender magazine in its October issue. "They can criticize you without even knowing you, and hate you when they don't even know you. All of a sudden, you're, like, the bin Laden of America. Osama bin Laden is the only one who knows exactly what I'm going through." But he's kept himself busy in the recording studio for the past six months, and says song ideas come to him in the kitchen, on the basketball court, everywhere. "I love music, and music loves me back. We're kind of married, and I'm pregnant by music," the 36-year-old says. "I have three to four years' worth of work you've never heard in the vaults. I've come up with at least 20 to 25 albums." |

R. Kelly Trying to Fight His Charges
R. Kelly Lawyers Fight Charges
Dec 2, 1:46 PM EST Associated Press Attorneys defending R&B star R. Kelly against child pornography charges have filed a host of motions, including one contending the alleged victim could have been old enough to legally consent to sex. Also included in the 11 motions Kelly's attorneys filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court is the argument that the case should be dismissed because prosecutors failed to specify the date of the alleged crime in their indictment against Kelly, 36. Kelly, whose first name is Robert, was arrested in June 2002 after a videotape surfaced that allegedly showed the Grammy winner having sex with a girl. By alleging that the illegal acts happened between November 1997 and February 2002, Kelly's attorneys argue, the girl could be anywhere from 13 to 17 years old. If she was 17 at the time, she would have been old enough to consent to sex. Further, they argue, such a large window of time makes it impossible for Kelly to mount a fair defense. "It's no secret that Mr. Kelly is a well-known musician, who frequently travels," the motion states. "By failing to narrow the date of the charged defense, Mr. Kelly is wholly deprived of the opportunity to bring an alibi defense." The attorneys also raised questions about the law that allows for a man to have sex with girls 17 and older but illegal to videotape such acts with girls 17 and younger. "It is illogical, irrational and disproportionate to subject one to a criminal conviction for taking pictures of conduct that does not otherwise violate the law," they said. Defense attorney Edward Genson said he could argue the motions as early as Kelly's next scheduled court appearance on Feb. 6. Prosecutors have declined to comment on any of the motions. |

It wasn't me. If it was me, she was legal. If it was me and she was legal, it shouldn't be illegal to tape it. BAsically, at this tage he can argue all the alernatives in order to find some basis to get the case thrown out. ONce he starts presenting his theory of the case to the jury he will have to deide which version of the story he is going with and stick to it. |
Re: Re: Re: R. Kelly Trying to Fight His Charges
I doubt that R Kelly will do any jail time for this.
