It's ok http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Like I said, a lot of people just don't know. Our preferred nickname is usually Tri Sigma. We wouldn't be so crazy about it if it weren't for that organization previously mentioned that goes by Tri Sig.

Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority was founded on March 17, 1917 at New York University Law School, the first sorority to be founded at a professional school, and also the first non-sectarian sorority.

Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity was founded on December 16, 1925 on the campus of Lafyette College in Easton, PA. It is America's oldest service fraternity, and more active members than any other GLO. (300,000+)

Iota Phi Theta was founded on September 19, 1963 at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland.

BTW - Here's a fun fact: My 6-year old son was born on Iota's Founder's day. To see a picture of him (and his old man), click here

Great story and interesting links, IotaNet. Thanks. By the way, how did you talk your wife into that timing?

It was totally out of my hands. She was in labor for about 30 hours across three days!

Well I think we are one of the youngest fraternities. Sigma Tau Gamma was founded in Warrensburg, MO in 1920 at what is now Truman State University. Alpha Chapter still exists.

My chapter, Pi, was founded at IUP in 1930, the oldest social fraternity at IUP. We did lose our charter in 1986 after 56 years of being #1 at IUP, but we are back this spring after rechartering, and on our way back to the top.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was founded on November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis. It is the youngest of the four NPHC sororities, and the only one not founded at Howard University.

So Sweet History

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in the District of Columbia. We are the first sorority to charter a chapter in Africa (Monorovia, Liberia) in 1948!
:D

TriSigmaTX 05-05-2002 12:35 AM

Of course Tri Sigma was founded in 1898, my chapter Pi, founded in 1917 in Emporia, KS

TrojanGirl 05-05-2002 01:05 AM

My chapter of Pi Beta Phi was founded in 1963. The orriginal group of girls were the UALR cheerleaders, the Battlecriers. They were also the group to give our school its nickname, the Trojans.
We are the oldest women's fraternity on campus. Delta Delta Delta was chartered here the same year, but we installed first!

On another note.. both the Kappa Kappa Gammas and the Pi Phis debuted the same way : wearing their pin to chapel.

kappa alpha theta was founded in 1870 at depauw university in greencastle, indiana. the chi chapter at syracuse was founded in 1889.

that's interesting that pi phi and kappa girls wore their pins to church to announce the existence of their chapters cause that's how the thetas debuted too! they wore them in their hair and everything.
