Souls of My Sisters
Dawn Marie Danials and Candace Sandy

When Chicken-heads Come Home to Roost
Joan Morgan

Both books are wonderful for the enlightenment(is that a word?) of black women. Especially young black women.

Eric Jerome Dickey

Shoe's on the otha' foot

I haven't read Liar's Game, but Friends & Lovers was the bomb.

As far as Shoe's On the Otha Foot...read it if you want to get a good hoot out of someone's poor writing skills. I mean DAYUM. This child could not develop a plot if it her life depended on it. The characters and storyline were shallow, the writing SUCKED, and there were more than a few grammatical and spelling mistakes throughout. Seriously, I don't come down this hard often, but this is SUCH a waste of money.

I don't know about the collab with EJD, Marcus Major and the rest, but I just finished Good Peoples by Marcus Major - it's his "solo" debut, so to speak. It was okay... I'll give him a little time to develop. Worth reading though.

I totally Agree. I thought DAYUM you Suuuuuuck!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif What was with the bold print and all of that other Garbage. Some of these authors that are coming out seem like they just wrote just to say they wrote a book. The ending SUCKED. You mean to tell me you took me through all of that MESS just just just just (NO TYPO) to decide you could not be with him http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Now I love EJD, love him love him love HIM.
My favorites in order
1. Friends and Loves
2. Cheaters
3. Sister, Sister
4. Milk in My Coffee
5. Liar's Game

#3 & #4 were tied for me but it is without a doubt that Friends and Lovers was, is, and will be my favorite. The dynamics, the writing, My favorite passage (dang it IDEAL08, I need the book to do a direct quote http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif ) is No matter how good of friends we are, only one of us can be the pallbearer at the other's funeral. Simple truth but it smacked me in the face.

I thought Marcus Major's first effort was okay. His new book will be out this spring but his short story in Got To Be Real was really good and would make a good novel so I can find out what happened.

I am currently reading Grace F. Edwards mysteries and although I am not a mystery reader, NOW I AM http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Now, I love some Eric J., but I enjoyed Cheaters more than Liar's Game. Just starting on Milk in My Coffee. So far so good. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

You'll should read Men Cry In The Dark by Michael Baison. When I saw the movie "The Brothers", it reminded me of the book.

READ IT! It is great!

I am going to start on Friends and Lovers tonight. Thanks for the recommendation, Sweetest Diva

I forgot about that stupid ending. Oooh, that irked me. "There is somebody out there who I know will always love me and I will probably always love him." Or something like that, but you get the gist. I'm glad you felt the same way, CT4.. I didn't want to think I was being too critical.

Marcus Major's 2nd novel just hit bookstores - it's called "Four Guys and Trouble". I read the back and it sounded like it might be the bomb.. but it's only in hardback so far, which is $24.95. And I'm in college. And poor. So I guess I'll have to wait, but if any of y'all get it, tell me what you think! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

I just read All About Love by Bell Hooks.
Ms. Hooks hits on some major points that all women need to analyze and implement into their lives. I highly recommend this book..
Now I am reading The Art of War - Sun Tzu.
Written 2500 years ago, but very useful for aspiring leaders today.

Girl, you ain't neva lied!!! I didn't even finish it, because I know that I'm no literary genius, but something kept telling me that "This book stinks!" so I decided to just put it down.

Also, I love EJD too, but Liar's Game could've been much better.

I'm a little late with this post, but I just picked up this book. It's very interesting reading, and I definitely agree with you that it is good reading!

I am in the process of reading the book "Our Kind of People: Inside America's Black Upper Class," (the title is self-explanitory therefore I won't give you a summary) and I am really enjoying it. I was wondering what good books you all have read recently and what makes them so good?
