The only times I ever wore my white dress were pledging and initiation but some sororities wear their white a lot for rituals. My AOII daughter's chapter did that and on top of that, she became Keeper of the Ritual pretty soon afterwards and she had to have white everything--shoes, hose, and a dress that couldn't be strapless or have spaghetti straps. Agghhh! Just TRY to find that in December!
I was ready when the next 2 rushed...we got the whites the spring before recruitment. PNMs take note. |
I love Target for workout clothes. Some of my most comfortable pairs of sweats are from there. I do own a dress, a shirt, and a couple of pairs of shoes from there too. Although I admit, the shirt doesn't fit right on and the shoes are damn uncomfortable. But accessories and purses and casual clothes that I wear to the gym... it's all about target.
I'm a babe on a budget. I take what I can get in between Express' Super Sales. :D |
Target's been where I've found a few basic pieces for work, like a plain white shirt, etc. I was there Friday to find a pair of shorts for vacation this week that I knew would fit as opposed to the shorts @ my parent's I'm unsure of. That's kinda how I view Target, something basic or something in a pinch...

Question
After reading the posts on this thread, I have some questions. Are some people afraid to wear clothes from lower-priced stores because they are afraid that someone may see them in there shopping? Are they afraid of wearing a dress from Target or Walmart and scared that someone may recognize that particular item of clothing and know exactly where it was bought?
Personally, I have gotten more compliments on outfits that I have bought from Kmart (yes I said KMART) than from outfits that I bought at Lane Bryant or some other store. If you know how to shop, you know how to pick out well-made items, no matter where it's bought or how much it costs. We have a store here called Value City. Value City actually does carry name-brand clothes from all stores. Just at cheaper prices. I mean, dang. If I go into Value City and see a skirt for $10 that I know costs $40 at Lane Bryant, guess who's getting my business? Value City. I am open minded. I will wear clothes from everywhere. As long as they fit well and look good on me, I could care less what store they came out of. One last thing...if labels are really all that of a concern, you can buy the labels all by themselves and sew them into your clothes! |

I still have an irrational fear that people will look down on me if I wear really cheap clothing. However, I don't wear expensive clothes either. It is in between. Also, I don't care what other people choose to wear, as long as you groom yourself, it is fine with me. |
Wow, where I am from and where I go to school (2 different states and cultures), wearing clothes from Target isnt a big deal. Even the girls with more money than they would ever need will stop at Target before they go anywhere else. I buy all of my bathing suits at Target because I like their designs and their fit better than any other place, plus I can get both pieces together for less than 30 bucks instead of at least 30 bucks a piece at other stores. I also love getting casual sun dresses there. I have a brown and pink halter dress that I got there for 10 bucks that I got sooooo many compliments on. I also love their purses and especially their shoes. I have a pair of brown boots I got there for 15 bucks that were so comfortable I went and got the same ones in black. I wear them at least once every week and I have had them for about 2 years. They are great! I love Target! And everyone gets envious when I look just as cute in my 10 dollar dress as they do in their 150 dollar one. HA!

Amongst my Chapter....my sisters LOVE Target. I always hear sisters tell another sister that they got their shirt or skirt at Target when one asks where she got it bc its cute. I happen to love Target. I always find good deals and decent stuff. I love their purses (I have a purse fetish...its quite sad if you ask me).
Also, where I live we also have a Value City. I always find designer clothes for cheap prices. When I was in high school I found a designer black satin dress for $40 (I don't remember the designer and I'm too lazy to go get it outta its dress bag). My opinion, designer or not, its clothes and it does its job. As for whites, I only wear them for rituals. Otherwise you will not catch me in all white....well when I get married you will but thats not for a LONG LONG time :D |
Growing up over here, we're lucky because every girl pretty much has to have a white muumuu. Muumuu are not all big and frumpy and they won't make you look like a balloon. You can get them pretty much anywhere here for cheap. Usually each new member class in my chapter makes an outing to the swap meet/flea market and depending on how many they buy they can get one for less than $20. They look great...and uniform!
This one might cost a bit more, but this is the one I want to get especially for Convention: http://store4.yimg.com/I/hawaiianwed...p_1784_7415286 |
I like Value City but its hit or miss whether I can find something I like....my favorite places to shop are thrift stores and yard sales --I just love getting good clothes for bargain prices! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Steinmart but I am not sure how "national" Steinmart is....

I have gotten some awesome clothes at Value City. You have to look at everything very carefully. All of my son's summer clothes come from VC. He just needs a bunch of shorts and t-shirts and I can get him a whole summer wardrobe for under $50. Of course, he's only 8 and most anything he's going to wear for summer will get wrecked anyway. Why pay big bucks for clothes for a kid like that? They have a lot of designer stuff too. Last year, a whole huge rack of kids Nike t-shirts. Way cool.

As KR can attest we lived through the "Oh my God you MUST have Jordache or you suck" phase, but it went away by college, thank heaven. |

and the correct prununciation is "Tar-zshay" where I come from;) I think if you are no longer in the 8th grade, you should not give a shit if it comes from Target, Walmart, Neimen or whatever. If you do, you need to grow up. I agree with the above, if it's ugly it's ugly, no matter who makes it. I personally like Gap a lot because I can get pants in lengths. But I ONLY shop on the sales rack. I've never paid more than $20 for something there. I also love buying summer clothes from Taget or Old Navy because summer clothes seem to get ickier quicker. You sweat in it, wear it to the beach, wear it to play sports, picnics whatever-why pay a lot? Why pay a lot for work out clothes that get washed so much they practically fall apart? I get all that stuff at the cheaper stores. Socks are another thing. I always buy that stuff at a discount store. TJMAX is good stuff too! Now shoes-that is a different story. I'll pay $100 for a pair of shoes, but I'll wear them everyday for 5 years. It's not that I am a total shoe snob, I just can't find cheaper ones that are actually comfortable. But flip flops and fake keds, they can come from wally world and be OK. |
