Yeah that Burberry gang at South Park are NOT playing - you can always spot their gang colors easily, so you better turn and walk the other way fast!!

Those Eastland ice skating gangs are some crazy mo-fo's too - watch your back, CT4 - we don't want anything happening to our resident perp buster :D

I think she was more afraid of me @ South Park. And if you're talking about "Eastland" - yep - figuratively and literally.

I'd say around 15ish. This was like in 1995 or so. Sad part was, I had my "hurr" did, cute shoes, AKA shirt, denim shorts, and those canvas platform sneakers that were in style then - thought I was all cute, and there she went.

*Breaking news* A student at XYZ college was arrested today after beating another student to death with what was reported to be a cane. The assailant was found raving mad repeating, "So you wanna be a Kappa! So you wanna be a Kappa!!!!" Witnesses have no explaination for this sudden outburst of rage. Their only comment was, "DAMN!!!"

SKEEphistAKAte 02-19-2006 01:09 PM

This didn't happen to me, but to one of the sorors in my chapter. A few sorors were out dancing. This chick walks up and starts holding a "mirror" up to one of the sorors. The soror says "Oh, are you a soror? What chapter are you from?" The chick says "No, I'm not one but I want to be one REAL BAD."

This chick just has no idea how lucky she is that SKEE was not in the place that evening.

RedAngel 02-19-2006 06:37 PM

That was a good one.

marquise1911 02-22-2006 02:47 PM

We had our "informational" and a young man stood up and asked, "Kappas have a reputation as being...well you know whorish. I'm a Christian and I was wondering if I would have to take part in anything that would be...well whorish, to become a member?" The room fell silent for a long period and then the bruhs erupted in laughter. I had to clutch my mouth to contain the obscenities that wanted to come rushing forward. This was made for TV comedy.

Is Whorish a word...I think so, but I'm not sure:confused:

SKEEphistAKAte 02-22-2006 04:17 PM

Oh, how could I forget this one. At one of our undergraduate Rushs, an interest raised her hand and asked "So what do y'all talk about at your meetings?" *sigh*

Why this Freshman walk up to the SGRho table during the 1st week of school (my Wife is the Grad Advisor) and ask one of the Undergrads sitting at the table..

What is "Eee - Hangman - Pee"?

Let me tell ya.. it went silent for about 2 seconds.. and I think I was the 1st person to figure out what the girl meant...

And I can testify... that holding in a boisterous laugh... can almost kill you...

Of course, on the Bruh side.. It kills me when older Non Greek people just come up to me/past me and then SHOOT THE GUNS REALLLLLL HARD when they see me in para.

And then just smile in my face wondering why my reaction isn't what they thought it would be cause they really don't know that shooting the guns as a Non-Que is not cool.

AHH HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!I hope you didn't throw no signs :D

The funniest thing that seems to happen (rather often) is people coming up to me, when I'm wearing my letters, and asking if I'm a Delta.

When I'm feeling generous I say yes. All other times, I'm like, "if I weren't, they'd kick my @$$.

Haa! That reminds me of a story. One late night 2 of my sorors and I went to Waffle House and we had letter pins on. A random woman walks up to our table and asks "Are yall Deltas?" Silence overtook our table and then I said "no, we're Sigma Gamma Rhos". She said "Oh" and walked away, and we all looked at each other like wtf?

I'm convinced that if we had said yes, she would have whipped out an application or told us she wanted to be a Delta.

marquise1911 02-27-2006 04:14 PM

Wow… I'm ashamed to admit it:( , but one of my older, white, non-greek co workers (a triple qualification for BGLO ignorance), asked me, "Are you a Delta? Ms. Brown down the hall is a Delta." I explained to her the difference and that the only thing we have in common is our colors. She said, "Oh. So they must be your sisters?" I was like, "Just forget about it. You wouldn’t understand and I don't have the time to explain."

jitterbug13 02-27-2006 04:33 PM

I was in Rock Hill for our Fall State meeting. I went out to dinner at Ruby Tuesdays with my LS and her friend, who is also a soror. The server, who was terrible anyway, said "I see you're a member of AEO. I see a lot of ya'll who have AEO on your shirts. I was thinking what in the h*ll was she talking about and then I realized she was talking about DST. We had to explain to her what it meant.

Also, while I was wrapping gifts Christmas time, an older black man asked my friend and I if we were Kappas.

I understand when the kids see my Greek letters and immediately insist, "DO A STEP!" It's not as tolerable when a middle-aged woman doesn't recognize that Greeks do more than step. My aunt (by marriage) met three sorors as we were returning from an out-of-state Regional Conference. I introduce the sorors, and she immediately replies, "So y'all are in the sorority together? DO A STEP!" It's common, but it's still irritating.

I know I'm a neo and I'm young and everything (20 to be exact). But I also get irritated when I'm in the middle of Mr. Hero's or the mall and random people will be like "What is that mean (pointing at my letters)". I don't mind tellin people I'm in a sorority but when they start say "Bust out a step, show me something (all while throwin up their hands and imitating a step", I get kinda irritated. I simply say "I'm not a trained monkey" and keep it moving.

KAPPAtivating 03-06-2006 02:06 PM

The first one I have is when my aunt, who is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, was in her office drinking out of a Delta mug. One of her employees came in and said, "why would you buy a cup that has a mistake on it"? As my aunt and I looked at each other in confusion, she said, "the cup says OOOPS on it and they left off the "s"! Needless to say, for whatever reason, she doesn't work there anymore!:(

KAPPAtivating 03-06-2006 02:08 PM

This one pisses me off more than anything. When a non-greek will be looking at my letters and say, 'your an alpha right?', or someone will say, don't the Kappas go with the Deltas?

Dionysus 03-06-2006 03:26 PM

One of my friends: "Sooo how's that organization, Omega Psi Phi going?"

I'm in Alpha Phi Omega.

How about this one... A young lady said to me, "Kappas are too pretty to be smart. I mean...your call is 'Yo Yo' and your sign is 'OK'. That is so not original, any idiot could come up with dat."

I'm sorry everyone, but I had to be mean:mad: . I kindly replied. "Ok...If your right eye would stop arguing with your left eye (she was terribly cross-eyed) you would be able to see that our sign is the diamond, not OK. And as far as Kappas not being smart, you were a sophomore when I was a freshman and now I'm a senior and you're a junior. I wonder what that makes you?"

Wow!!! I'm laughing right now!!! I really am. A co-worker of mine just walked up to me and asked loudly, "Why y'all haze dat boy at FAMU?" I was like... But I replied, "Ok I don't attend FAMU, I attend FMU, there's no 'A' in our name sir." He in turn said, "But you're a Kappa right? And y'all hazed dat boy." I gritted my teeth and asked. "Are you greek, sir?" and he said, "Yeah I'm an A-Phi-Q." I began to give him the "Kappa Alpha Psi is a non hazing organization...blah, blah, blah." speech. He looked confused and asked me. "Well why did they beat dat boy?"

My reply was simple, "They beat him because he let them. They almost beat him to death because they are stupid. They're going to jail because that's where they belong and he is in a hospital as a result of the decisions he made. Any other questions?"

Now that is Grade-A ignit! I was at a church event the other night where the Alphas stepped as an "opening act". By the time I had gotten there, I had missed it, but as soon as I walked through the doors, somebody ran up and said, "you just missed your frat brothers stepping!" When they pointed out the Alphas(who had on nelia), I held up my Kappa dog tag and said, "do these letters match?

That reminds me of this lady I was talking to at the nursing home I work at on weekends. Mrs. Elvira, a resident, likes to go outside, but she is not technically supposed to because she sometimes is confused and will try to wander away. So my test for her is to ask her what sorority she was in, and if she can say Tri-Delta, she gets to go outside. Well, the lady I was taking to when I asked Ms. Elvira what sorority she was in noticed my lettered bag and said "Oh, ya'll are sisters!".

This aint really funny, it is really annoyin to me. A couple of my friends who dont know anything about greek life and are both in college, wanna have the longest converstations about it. I told her i was a kappa and she was like, ow that is the blue and white ones right. I am like no that the sigmas. So then she wanna try to guess all the color combinations instead of just askin me. She was like "oh no ur right, yall are the Brown and Gold ones right" So annoyed

dreamgirl10 04-16-2006 09:06 PM

I have only been greek for one week and already I have one to add. I wore my DST shirt to work. Note: I am the only black woman in the building. Anyways, why did my boss walk in see my shirt and say I thought you went to Rowan what's that a Rutger's Shirt? I had to shake my head that was just plain ole ignorant. Now there's a difference between not knowing about greeks and not recognizing that the letters were greek. Some people should just keep their mouths shut. Can anyone top that? This man must have never seen a greek letter in his life oh but did I mention he has "30 college credits"...lmao.
