Essie nailpolish always streaks on me. I don't see what all the fuss is about, even the famous "Ballet Slippers".

I dated a guy once who's mom had been a stylist and so she gave me free Biolage shampoo and conditioner. I like that stuff, but normally I'm too cheap to buy it.

One shampoo brand that I don't like is anything Pantene. In high school it turned my hair orange. Not attractive at all.

Actually, my hair is color treated (with Revlon ColorSilk - I love Revlon but stay away from this stuff) and probably oily to normal when it isn't color treated which hasn't been since, like, 1986. :)

does proactiv really work for anyone?

i've been using it for blemishes and it makes my skin oily and i am geting pimples now. i never really got them before.

I hate Pantene! Last time I used it (about 5 years ago at a friend's house) it left my hair looking oily and limp. Fructis is also bad about doing that to my hair, too.

I can't stand Neutrogena's facial mositurizer. It's too thick and oily for my face. It also smells bad. Neutrogena's Clean Lash mascara and Acne Solutions Kit really didn't impress me either.

AchtungBaby80 06-18-2005 10:40 PM

Whoever said they didn't like Brilliant Brunette stuff...I'm with you! I tried it for a while, but it made my hair feel...well, yucky. That's the only way I can describe it. Normally my hair is very slick and smooth 'cause it's naturally straight, but that stuff left a sort of film on it. Ew.

I'm not a fan of Bare Essentuals myself. I know there's a huge amount of hype over that stuff and everyone and their grandmother loves it, but it made my skin feel tight and gritty. It didn't cover for crap, and it didn't stay on, either.

Another foundation I don't like is the Bobbie Brown stuff. My sister and her friends swear by it, and even though it covers like a dream, it makes my skin break out soooooooo badly. I talked to my doctor about it and she insisted that as long as I was washing my face at night, it wouldn't matter what kind of makeup I wore but I beg to differ because ever since I quit using it, my skin has cleared back up to its normal state and I no longer look like a 12-year-old.

I could go on and on because I'm a beauty products junkie.

.

I tried Brillian Brunette too and yes, it's Y-U-C-K-Y, especially the conditioner.

Tippiechick 06-18-2005 10:58 PM

I think Garnier Nutrisse is horrible. It colored half of my hair dark and half of it light. None of it was the correct color of light brown. I called the company and they immediately offered me my money back.

Jill1228 06-18-2005 11:08 PM

MAC Diva here

For me MAC is love. It is one of the lines that is great for women of all shades...trust me, I have had problems finding makeup for my skin tone.

Never have been acne prone, and I love Studio fix. Not crazy about some of the LipGlass and Mascara (I prefer Lancome for Mascara). I have more MAC lipsticks than you can shake a stick at

Not crazy about Clinique lip gloss but I love their 3 step skin program.

I love OPI nail colors. Altar Ego is my staple color

Mac lipstick is the only lipstick that stays on me. I love it. I have not tried any of their other products.

I am looking for a good mascara that will last 14 hrs. I work overnights and by the time I see my clients in the morning I look like a raccoon.

aggieAXO 06-19-2005 12:22 AM

BTW, if anyone needs a good detangler, try Rusk smoother passionflower and aloe-it works very well.

Again, for any of you curley haired people out there that are tired of your curls, I highly recommend the Japanese straightening treatment. It is permanent though (at least until your hair grows out).

I was going to ask if anyone had ever tried Bare Essentials. I'm currently obsessed w/ the WE channel, and they're always going the commercials. I have super dry skin that's uber pale, but kind of blotchy, and it looked like it might do the trick (I hate wearing foundation).

Thanks for saving me the $$.

Imperial1 06-19-2005 03:27 PM

I hear proactiv is overrated.

PiPhiGirl2005 06-19-2005 06:34 PM

Any thoughts on Mary Kay? It's the only thing I buy when it comes to make-up, and I use their face wash, toners, acne cream, and moisturizer, too.

As for shampoo/conditioner, I use Aussie products - they're the first line of hair products I've ever stuck with for more than a few months.

tinydancer 06-19-2005 06:38 PM

Mary Kay foundation always looked funky on me. I didn't think the color was right and it was a little too thick for my liking. They had one great powder blush that I liked a lot. Well, big surprise, they discontinued that color.

ISUKappa posted links earlier int he thread where you can buy tiny samples to test it out. If you are interested in it and that it would work, it may be worth the $3-4 to try it out.

Xylochick216 06-19-2005 08:40 PM

Am I the only person who LOVES Brilliant Brunette? It makes my hair feel and look amazing... the whole line of styling products is great. I alternate with that and the Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo/conditioner.

I can't STAND Thermasilk. It makes my hair dull and greasy.

I can't stand that Garnier Fructis stuff. I also hate Clinique's mascara. I got a good sample of it once and ended up buying a tube of it, and it ended up being horrible. I recently discovered the L'Oreal Double Extend mascara, and that's the best stuff I've ever used.

tunatartare 06-19-2005 09:26 PM

I like brilliant brunette, it worked nicely for my hair. I also can't stand Fructis. My mom got this 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner thing from there and it is the grossest thing ever. It has a glue-like consistency when you take it out of the bottle. That can't be a good sign of what's to come.

kddani 06-19-2005 10:04 PM

Wow, some people must LOVE those Lancome Juicy Tubes. I have a gift with purchases sized one in Strawberry Glaze (it does seem to be rare) on auction on ebay that has been bid up to $17.50!!!!! I mean, if some dumbass wants to give me that much for it, knock yourself out, but wow

Haha I love it when that happens, when people bid for something on ebay that the price ends up being higher than the retail price for it.

hell yeah. God bless dumb people for helping to pay my bills! I did check, it is discontinued, but still! It's freakin lip gloss. Gunky lip gloss at that !:p

Rio_Kohitsuji 06-19-2005 10:37 PM

I feel like I'm the only one on here who likes Garnier Fructis! It works really well with my hair, heh. :)

I like Brilliant Brunette styling products too (in addition to the shampoo/conditioner). I like the straightening stuff.

I agree with you on the Thermasilk, I tried it college once and it made my hair feel really heavy and icky. I already have thick hair, I don't need any help with weight.

As for Mary Kay products - their make up gives me a rash, so I don't use it. I do love their Satin Lips product though.

I'm a big fan of the Avon Anew facial cleansing line, but it also helps that I can get the products for free since my mom sells it.:)

edited to fix typos

I'm not a fan of the Clinique 3 step system. The clarifying lotion is decent. But the soap is fairly useless, doesn't feel or look like it's getting your face clean. And the DDML (dramatically different moisturizing lotion) is okay in the winter sometimes, but they push this stuff like it's good for all skin types year round, and it's NOT. Lol, I actually use mine on my bikini line to keep from getting bumps- since it's fragrance free it doesn't irritte.

bruinaphi 06-20-2005 08:14 AM

I hate Redken's Clear Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. The smell makes me sick to my stomach and the Conditioner does nothing to detangle my hair.

My new love is Enjoy Shampoo and Conditioner. It is sulfate free and perfect.

chideltjen 06-20-2005 10:08 AM

What IS a good mascara?

I've been using a Clinique one for years and for some reason now I can't wear it anymore. When I do, my eyes get all irritated and I end up rubbing my eyes to oblivion and end up looking like a raccoon. It's sad because it used to work so well.

I also like Brilliant Brunette products. Their finishing cream is wonderful.

You know I feel like I've tried ever freaking mascara on the market. I've tried all the Lancome formulas, MAC, Maybelline, etc. The two best I've used are the Covergirl Professional (in the royal blue tube) and YSL False Lashes (I think that's what it was called). However, YSL is kinda pricey and I've been using the Covergirl for awhile now and I love it. I've always hated how mascara will end up all over your face if you don't buy waterproof, but if you buy waterproof it's essentially on your lashes forever (or until you pull your lashes out trying to get the crap off). This macara stays put unless you're in the pool or crying like a baby, but comes off very easily...I love it. I started using it because a friend of mine was also in the search for the perfect mascara and she loved it too. :)

This JUST started happening to me with my Clinique mascara, too, and it's been awful. I've been a loyal fan of this mascara forever and all of a sudden it's been iritating my eyes and flaking off.

LOL... this is so true. I actually used to work at Macys and I had one of the Clinique counter girls tell me that the DDML had oil in it, so it's mostly for REALLY dry skin... but then it just clogs your pores anyway.

There was one Clinique moisterizer that I got in a sample bag that isn't too bad. I use it when I'm out of one of my others. It's water based. But it's also pretty thick. Can't remember the name.

I use Origin products... I like it if I have the money. But their Micro-Dermabrasion product they just came out with... totally irritated the crap out of my skin.

ADqtPiMel 06-20-2005 11:43 AM

If I could take a beauty product as a lover, it would be the Clinique lotion.

I know this is off topic, but can anyone recommend a shine-reducing powder for someone with extremely dry skin? All the formulas I've seen are for oily skin and they make my dry skin cry.

The new Dior Show mascara is supposed to be really good - my friend swears by it. I recently bought Lancome's Hypnoise...it's a bit too much for everyday, but good for nighttime.

PoohsHoneyBee 06-20-2005 05:09 PM

I'm learning a lot about MAC. I use the moisturizer, concealer, foundation, studio fix (yes, i love coverage), lip glass, eye shadow and eye brows (with a MAC brush) and the green gel facial cleanser. I have MAC for every occasion and sometimes buy in bundles, because I never know when I'm going to go broke.

Yeah, I'm dumb!

But, I have never had any problems as far as my face is concerned. If anything, I've had less break outs, but my face still gets super oily.

Dove shampoo/condition sucks! For some reason it feels like it just touches my hair and does nothing to clean it. This past weekend I also highlighted my hair and this lady from Canada said her stylist always washes her hair with a little bit of baking soda in the shampoo. It is suppose to really clean the hair thoroughly.

Has anyone else tried baking soda?

ISUKappa 06-20-2005 05:30 PM

Baking soda is a natural cleanser/deodorizer. It's also a component of the No Shampoo method.

The No Shampoo Method

A few gals I know have gone No 'Poo and love it.

Beta version 06-20-2005 07:50 PM

nice link thanks.

valkyrie 06-20-2005 08:12 PM

I like Loreal's Voluptuous mascara, and MAC's mascara X is awesome.

christiangirl 06-21-2005 03:01 AM

Swiss Ives Whipped Silk. It's just regular lotion with the spout cut into a snowflake shape to make it look like whipped cream. It works just like any other think of lotion I've ever bought.

luvtoscrap 06-21-2005 03:27 AM

I use Mary Kay for my makeup and their facial cleaning system. The only exception is that my blush is Channel. I really like the quality of Mary Kay and I figure why pay more when you can pay less. It also helps that a member of my family sells the product.

WCUgirl 06-21-2005 11:16 AM

Anybody have a recommendation for a good eye liner or lip liner?
