Well I am waiting for the screen version on HBO. I'm sure that will be great.

Remember?? Her sisters?? Oh yeah, SS won't disappoint us with the sequel!! <--------------- my positive thinking.

I forgot about her sisters. I wonder if any of them plan on following in Winter's footsteps trying to make it big in the fast lane.

Remember at the end of the book Winter said her 2nd oldest sister was living the fast life like she used to.

gamma_girl52 08-12-2003 12:19 PM

I forgot about the sisters...they could probably focus more on the 2nd oldest one instead of the younger ones.

But still...I wonder where Winter would fit in if she would at all. In any case I will still give the sequel a shot when it comes out.

Actors in The Coldest Winter

This was the kind of book that makes you feel like you really knew the people by the time you close it. I was really sad for Winter, her sister, father, mother, friends, etc. It should be mandatory reading in inner city schools especially. There's a new book out called Ghetto Girls that suppose to be just as good. I gotta go over to 125th street and pick it up.

IMO:

Santiaga-Benjamin Bratt
Midnight-DMX

Who could play Winter? That's probably gonna be someone fresh on the acting scene cuz I cant think of anyone. Maybe Amerie??

That's the one, that's the one! I just couldn't remember the name for anything!

Thank you CT4 :D

KnowledgeSeeker 10-06-2003 04:16 AM

the cast

ok after reading all of the casting calls i've narrowed it down

Santiago : Giancarlo Esposito (he was not young, and had a Latin/AA look to him)

Midnight : Mehki (he was dark, sexy, serious, and had street sense)

The Mother : Jada (with lots of makeup)/ Tamala Jones/Lark Voorhies (she was very dark skinned, and went from being who every YOUNG woman wanted to be to a ball headed crack head)(keywords Dark skinned and Young - remember she was 14 when winter was born)
**If Hallie was a little younger i would say her hands down. She is the only actress i know that can be a crack head or the CLASSIEST/most Amazing lookin woman in any movie

Bullet: Freddro Star (he was a thug that didn't give a f*ck)

Dulce - Rosario Dawson (she was Latin, young and gourgeous)

Natalie and Simone - anyone hot in the a** and GHETTO, and around Winter's age.

The girls at the home - somethin like her friends.

Sista Souljah's little sister - Kayla Pratt (she had a sneakiness to her, and some serious attitude, but with that TOUCH of innocence)

The Siblings: anyone until the end. Her sister (not the twins) has to have some attitude about her when she starts tellin Winter what happened to everyone since she's been locked up. Remember she's like Winter the sequal now!!;)

As for our main character it is important to give her a YOUNG look (remember she was 16 when her life turned upside down). She was described as being between the colour of her parents (somethin like tatiana m ali) with long soft hair (you know "the good hair"), has LOTS OF STREET ATTITUDE, and BEAUTIFUL (that was her main means of getting by). Basically she needs to be Jada back when she was Leena James on a Different World.

Bianca Lawson /Rayven/ one of those DUFE ladies IF they toughen her up a LOT/Stacey Dash (she's like 39 and can pull off being 21 - maybe Winter at the end?)/or even a newbie (that would be refreshin every once in a while)

tell me what you all think - sorry it was so long
:(

This is the latest from Sister Souljah's website. She will be done with the movie script no later than Feb 2004, she has no idea who will play Winter or any other character, she will post auditions, and she will complete the book sequel this year. Keep checking back for updates. Here is the link

I just went to the site that Chrini posted in 2004 and there are updates re: movie of Coldest Winter Ever. There is no more deal with HBO and the sequel is still being written.

Sequel coming

Well now, after how many years?--the sequel is finally written and will be in stores in October 2008. It's called Midnight; A Gangster Love Story. Hmm...I hope the book won't be all about Midnight or told from his point of view. That definitely sounds less interesting and I've been waiting too long! Thoughts, ladies?

RedefinedDiva 04-26-2008 01:00 AM

I'm still waiting on this movie that yet to emerge! I haven't even heard anyone talking about it in years. Maybe the buzz will resurface when the sequel hits the stands.

Ten/Four 04-26-2008 02:32 PM

I need to read this again. I remember the basic plot points but not all the details.

Thanks, laylo! I am looking forward to it and hope it sheds a lot of light about the mysterious Midnight. This will be the subject of my blog on Tuesday.:)

According to Sister Souljah, the film rights are available for purchase. I think the only way to translate the book into movie is to make it a miniseries.

Me,too. I will NOT read the sequel until I re-read the original.

CrimsonTide4 04-27-2008 11:29 AM

The book comes out October 14th so by October 12th, I will be finished re-reading TCWE.

delph998 04-28-2008 10:45 PM

I re-read this book about six months ago! I'm glad I did, but may still need to read it one more time. Either way, it's about time she came out with the sequel!

BlessedOne04 05-02-2008 09:54 AM

I cannot wait until October! That is one of my favorite books of all time. I wonder if Tyler Perry or Gina Prince-Bythewood (love and basketball) can take a stab at it.

LOL Why not Tyler? Someone else can write it but he has the money to produce it and make it successful.

jitterbug13 05-02-2008 11:18 PM

Because Madea would probably show up during the movie. :) :p

The Coldest Winter Ever isn't his genre and I think there are better producers/directors out there that can do the movie as it is meant to be done.

Proverbs31 05-07-2008 11:54 PM

I'm going home this weekend and will re-read TCWE while I'm there.

I can't wait to see what happens b/w Winter and Midnight.

pyt4christ 05-08-2008 08:35 AM

Wow I probably read this book 10 years ago or so...and loved it then. Probably still have it packed away in the library. I can't believe it's still making waves!

Hey, I'm home this weekend too. :) And my copy is here at my mom's house for when I bought it home last year. She likes to jack me for my books.

Yea, I haven't been home since January. I hadn't planned on going, but then my mom did the whole "sooo..what are you doing for Mother's Day?" speech lol.

I knew to go ahead and make it happen before that conversation could even take place. It's chilly here. I left 80 degree weather.:(

chrini 09-12-2008 11:56 AM

Seems like the new book may be telling Midnight's life story from childhood. We'll just have to see how this plays out.............

Check out the editorial reviews.

I was just coming to post the book cover. It is now not coming out until Election Day. This will be in my hands on 11.4.08.

Gina1201 09-12-2008 03:39 PM

This might make me buy a book for the first time in over a year.

I.A.S.K. 09-12-2008 03:43 PM

Personally, I'm still waiting for my favorite author's new book to come out! Please Hurry! I'm bored with nothing to read!

I'll probably get this one, but not for more than 10-15 bucks because that is my book budget limit right now.

*Gasp* I'm going to assume you both go to the Library and check them out.

and :D.

I'm anxious. Patience was never my strength, but I'm working on it.

On a book (side) note...
I have this really great book that I am almost finished with (have like 30 pages left) and I have avoided reading it. I dont want to finish because it is such a great story that I hate that it has to end. Its even worse because its non-fiction so I know that the stories of these people have continued I just dont know the rest of it and there is no book that I can read that will tell me the rest of it. Whats even worse is that I get bits and peices of how the story has continued, but not the whole thing on a regular basis.

Memoirs of A Boy Soldier is Awesome!

(end book side note)
