However, has anyone seen the pilot of a proposed Battlestar that was apparently shot back in the early 80s with a very surprising almost "Deus ex Machina" ending? I saw an old tape of the episode (pilot) where the fleet is trying to run from three Base Stars and after the usual round of hide and seek coupled with some rear guard delaying action scenes, where too many Vipers are lost, Adama realizes that things look like they are really in for it with little or no hope this time. He orders the communications officer to send out a general CQ request for assistance from any one who can help, perhaps hoping for a return of the Battlestar Pegasus. As the episode ends you hear the surprising response to the urgent call for help. They pick up a transmission from another ship and the voice over is Nichelle Nichols (Lt Uhura) saying, "To unidentified craft requesting help, we are USS Enterprise. How may we assist." Then it rolls to credits as the episode ends suggesting either a merger or a "guest appearance" from old NCC-1701.
It would seem that nothing came of this pilot, but I was wondering if anyone had seen this episode or heard anything about an attempt to merge or guest spot Star Trek and Battlestar?

I never heard of this, but it sounds really interesting. I'd like to see it.

This is looking mighty good. Just two more months.

Yeah. I am excited. But I am still processing Starbuck as . . a . . . well . .. girl.

Yeah, that was a bad move. Starbuck should be a guy because the name is Starbuck.

Jaggergirl 01-10-2005 02:33 PM

I'm not worried about Starbuck being a girl. They did a great job with the character in the mini-series and everything I've heard about the full series is encouraging.

It premieres on Friday! I can't wait.

PhiPsiRuss 01-15-2005 09:36 AM

The two hour airing last night was two 1-hour epsiodes.

They picked up where the mini-series ended, and the overall quality of the mini-series was there in full force.

The SciFi Channel should be very proud with this series. Its very well done.

Also, they are introducing a religious flavor to the conflict that I find fascinating. The cylons (at least #6) are very religious, but not in a way that is admirable. This is juxtaposed with Baltor's aetheism which is also devoid of any recognizable morality. I don't know where they'll go with this, but I can't wait to find out.

PhiPsiRuss 03-12-2005 11:06 AM

Bump

This show is freaking amazing. I still can't get over how well done it is, especially for a cable channel series.

ambición6 03-12-2005 01:12 PM

co-sign.
I love BG!!!!

I tape it every Friday if we end up going out or just wait for the rerun on Monday night. Did you see last nights episode? I wonder what the Prez halucinations/prophesies will lead to....
and the whole Earth thing, I wish they gave more of a story on the whole myth etc.

alphaalpha 03-14-2005 05:37 AM

I wish they gave more of a story on the whole myth ...

I think that will be developed more into detail as the story goes along. I really like how shows do that. It makes the story more exciting cause you never know what you are going to learn about the characters/plot from week to week.

Am i the only person who noticed that Boomer on Caprica had some reaction to peanut butter, humm a cylon food allergy???

I have said this in another thread, but i love starbuck as a girl. I think that she is really strong and i really like how, most of the people, respect her.

It is really nice to see that other people like this show. I have to say that this is one of my favorite shows, if not my most favorite. I really really love the series and try to get all my friends to watch it so that the series continues. i havent been taping it but i wish that i would have. i love to watch it again cause i always seem to miss something when i watch it the first time.

Oh and the whole Dr. Baltar and the cyclon in his head thing is kinda of cool, well, written well. I like how the cylon is using him and making him crazy. My roommate and i are still wondering exactly WHY people trust him so much. Maybe i did not get something that was explained and if someone whats to explain it to me i would love it.

BSG Rocks. I think that i need a support group. haha.

SquirrelGirl 03-14-2005 03:27 PM

Ahh, how I love the new BSG. I agree with alpha alpha and others, I love Starbuck as a woman.

I missed the last two episodes because my roommate is psycho and canceled my season pass....hmm, let's see, she doesn't own the TiVo/TV or pay the bill....something is rotten in Denmark.

They aren't showing repeats now either, at least on my SCIFI channel! So I will just have to continue watching even though I have skipped some. Drat!

aggieAXO 03-14-2005 03:38 PM

I guess I am resistent to change. I will always be a fan of the old BSG. I tried to watch the new one a couple of months ago and the first seen I saw was a a sex seen. I don't remember that kind of stuff in the old one but I was only 7. I had a huge crush on SBuck and now he is a she??? I lost interest in about 5 minutes.

The sex scene, in my opinion, was needed, although they could have toned it down a bit. In the old BSG, Baltor was more of a cartoon of a villain, than a credible villain. In the new BSG, we learn how he betrays humanity; by thinking between his legs. It makes the notion that a complete genius can be duped credible.

2nd Season

Okay, so i was in line at the grocery store and say on the TV Guide cover that there is a 2nd season. I didn't know if anyone else knew this, so i had to share. YEAH!!!

I was kinda of glad when i heard this cause on friday after BSG was over the commercials said something about the final 2 hours and i was not sure if they meant it was canceled and there are only 2 hours and its over or 2 hours until the season finally.
Glad to hear its only the end of the season and there will be another season, Yippy.

Season Finale

It was freaking amazing. Destroying the Cylon mother ship reminded me of Independence Day, but it was well done.

It ended with a Who Shot JR?, except that we know who shot him. That was a twist that I did not see coming.

I can't wait for the second season, which should debut in July.

James 04-06-2005 12:04 AM

I missed the second episode of the series finale. Someone please tell me what happened.

ambición6 04-06-2005 06:08 PM

When Commander Adama learns that Kara disobeyed orders and Jumped to Caprica on orders from President Roslin, he demands the president's resignation, with the implied threat of a military coup. Roslin refuses his demand and sparks a confrontation.

As civil war simmers in the fleet, the conflict on Caprica heats up. Kara completes her mission for Laura: She finds the Arrow of Apollo that, according to prophecy, will lead the fleet to Earth. No sooner does she pick it up, however, than she is thrust into a battle to the death with Number Six.

Meanwhile, Adama sends Sharon and Racetrack in a Raptor equipped with a Cylon transponder, to fire a nuclear warhead that will destroy the basestar. But when the missile release jams, Sharon lands the Raptor deep inside the basestar, to deliver the warhead manually.

Once outside her ship, however, Sharon is greeted by dozens of Sharon avatars, all Cylons like her, welcoming her home. She retreats, but is told that she and her fellow Cylons will meet again. She and Racetrack escape the basestar, which explodes.

Mission accomplished, Sharon returns home to the Galactica. She warmly accepts Commander Adama's thanks and praise for a job well done — then she coldly shoots him, point-blank, in the chest.

from the scifi.com site. im sure they will be replaying over and over again until July

The Farm

Friday night's episode might be the best one yet. After we were given insight into Starbuck's childhood, the plot twist in the hospital totally blew my mind.

Not to mention that the President is reluctantly attempting to save the democracy by potentially turning to theocracy.

Really well written.

Quala67 01-23-2006 02:48 PM

ok, so this thread has been dead for a while, so I thought I'd resurrect it....

I have become TOTALLY addicted to the new BSG! Last week's eppy, where Cain finally gets what she deserves...well, I just think that was one of the finest eppys of any sci-fi show written in a long time.

I also am impressed on a weekly basis by the acting of Tricia Helfer (sp?) and Grace Park. Their abilities to portray different 'characters' is just amazing.

I was a bit skeptical of Starbuck being made a female character - but I don't think it's been a bad move, considering how the plot and character development has come along. Kara Thrace may be female, but she's got bigger balls that some of the male characters! (Gaeta's a wimp, imho)

C'mon....I know you're out there...where are my BSG folks??

You wouldn't sleep with Angelina Jolie? I thought she was mosty women's secret guilty pleasure.

Although Angelina is beautiful, there's just something about her that screams "dirrty!!!". And, yes, I know you never asked me in the first place :D

I agree with kstar that Boomer is hot.

Starbuck annoys the hell out of me. Every time I see her onscreen, I have this urge to smack her. Although she could probably kick my ass.

Is the woman who plays the President the same woman who played the First Lady in Independance Day?
ETA: Sorry, that might be another show. I get the shows in Mr. KR's Friday Night SciFi Orgy mixed up.

daffodils 02-01-2006 12:00 PM

I'm not sure about "Independence Day", but she was Stands-With-A-Fist from "Dances With Wolves"

I don't know, I lost respect for her when she said that she'd never sleep with a married man, then did. Plus, the whole blood vial around the neck was creepy.

James 02-02-2006 03:28 PM

You are right she did play the First Lady.

I do agree with you somewhat, but I think it has to do with the characters personnality. She has a lot of issues and I think that comes accross as being annoying. I have worked with abused people and from my experience Starbuck is a good example of an abuse victum. I am not really sure how to explain this is a short time, but i think she is meant to be annoying and that is part of her personnality.

Anyway, i really love this show and think that it gets better and better. I really love the character and plot development. I really liked the original BSG, but i think the new one is much better. Not that the old one does not have a special place in my heart.

James 02-05-2006 02:55 AM

Apollo annoys me. He. Is. Such. A. Girl.

Don't get me wrong, I think the actor is doing a good job, its the character you just want to bitch slap and tell to stop whining.

bcdphie 05-10-2006 06:34 PM

I have just recently become hooked on BSG - I absolutely love. My husband used to love the original series so he brought home the mini series for us to watch.

We borrowed season 1 from our good friend, and have just purchased Season 2, Volume 1, which only took a week to watch. Can't wait for the rest of season 2 to come out on DVD and get caught up for season 3.

James 05-12-2006 03:24 AM

They ruined the second half of season 2 . . . they should be taken out and beaten.

Starbuck dead?!?!?!?

Okay, who else here was blown away by the ending of Sunday's Battlestar Galactica? Do you think Starbuck is dead or do you think she'll show up again. What about the possibility that Starbuck is one of the "five"

Carolyn

Signs point to yes.

James 03-06-2007 02:21 PM

So season 3 is worth watching? I was really hooked on season 1 and half way through season 2. Then I thought it got all soapy on us. People's personality problems and interpersonal relationship dilemnas . . . I thought they lost the main story line: Humanity being chased by Cylons.

I caught some of the beginning of the third season, but it seemed even more soapy than before. I know a few people that have stopped watching it for that reason . . . kind of like you want to fast forward to the action.

I have no desire to sleep with a woman, but if I did it sure wouldn't be Angelina. Way too skinny...and while I think she's attractive, I don't think she's so stunning like people say. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of Brad Pitt either.

I had never thought about that until watching Sunday's episode (I have the iTunes subscription). Its looking like she could be - because of this episode as well as D'anna's reaction to seeing one of the five at the temple ('You!') - so it would mean that it was someone D'Anna had met previously as well as a 'higher up' on Galactica. Didn't Boomer feel like she was going mad just before she found out she was a cylon?

Talk about cliffhanger!!

Oh, I'd take Chief or Anders over Apollo anyday (to talk about guys)! And if I were so inclined, I'd have to agree about Boomer.

bcdphie 03-07-2007 12:27 AM

I believe she's alive. Starbuck and Apollo are essentially Battlestar - at least they were back in the 70's...

Beryana 03-19-2007 06:52 AM

According to SciFi.com (or at least the email I got), the final 5 Cylons will be reveiled next week in the season finale - which will also be 5 minutes longer than a normal episode.

I also listened to the podcast with Ron Moore and supposedly they truly did kill of Starbuck. My problem is still with the talk of her greater destiny. Maybe I missed something but her death proved nothing and didn't help on the journey to Earth, etc.

Well is Starbuck back or is she a figment of Apollo's imagination?

All I have to say is ARGH!!!!!! I have to wait until 2008:eek: to see what happens. That is way too long. ARGH!!!

Beryana 03-27-2007 05:33 AM

With the ending of the season finale being what it was, I'm going back to the Starbuck is a Cylon! We only saw the four cylons leaving one still out there to be determined (if not Starbuck). I'm going to have to watch the last few episodes again (oh wait, the entire series to date!) to see if there are any other clues.

I was initially rather upset with two of the cylons because I really liked them - but then I remembered that I liked Boomer/Athena too so it really doesn't matter! LOL Definitely can't wait until the end of 2007 and the 2-hour event and the regular season in 2008. Thankfully Stargate starts back up in a few weeks so I have that to help with the wait (got into Battlestar during Stargates' LONG hiatus!)!!

Bump city...has anyone kept up with these new webisodes leading up to the razor movie...they've been really good.
