Well, I have already lost the pool that I was in. My picks were horrible! However, my Fighting Illini are still in it...and Southern Illinois? Who knew!?! Watch out KU; this upcoming game is going to be a good one. I'll be glued to the TV. :)

xo_sue 03-19-2002 01:51 PM

Since I'm from Danville, my heart is torn between Southern Ill. & UCONN this Friday!!! It will be a great game though!

Butler is leaving - all he can talk about is "leaving his legacy" but hopefully he'll have another great game and get us to the elite 8!

My brackets stunk! I had Gonzaga & Cincinnati going far. Oh well!

Thrillhouse 03-22-2002 01:35 AM

I had Kent St and Missouri going to the elite 8 before the tourney started. Talk about being good, lol. Duke losing won't hurt much since nearly everyone picked them.

IowaHawkeye 03-22-2002 02:13 AM

Duke... wow thats all i can say about that one... I had Duke and Maryland in the championship with Maryland winning it all... Williams choked on that free throw - i thought he was going to be the miracle man when he hit that three but damn, missing the free throw, that hurt...

phisigQT 03-22-2002 09:39 AM

well DUKE is out!!!! :)
and MARYLAND is still in!!! FEAR THE TURTLE!!!!!!!!!!! :D

KABillyMac 03-22-2002 09:41 AM

FEAR THE WILDCAT

RockChalk 03-22-2002 10:22 AM

I was absolutely stunned when Duke lost last night!! All I could think of was how good it felt to watch someone else choke - especially since it was Duke, whose fans always pick on Kansas for choking. Who's the choker now, Devils? :D

SigK_Bama 03-22-2002 11:56 AM

Well my bracket is now screwed!! *ripping it up into small pieces and tossing them up in the air*

xo_sue 03-22-2002 12:05 PM

How ironic is it that IU beat Duke the season after Coach Knight left. I am so happy for Davis!!!! He is all class!

greeklawgirl 03-22-2002 01:25 PM

Well, I'm still crying in my beer this morning over Arizona. On the bright side, they are a really young team and I know they'll go even further next year!

I don't know who the heck to root for anymore. The whole tournament this year has been so topsy-turvy!

Davis did nothing though. All of Indianas players are leftovers from the bobby knight era. Where was mike davis when the top 3 indiana hs seniors last year did not go to indiana? Nice recruiting job Mike. Lets see what he can do next year when some of the knight era players graduate.

GO KENT ST!!!!!!!

Tom Earp 03-22-2002 05:47 PM

It sucks that U Mo. has to play U Ok. I wont get to see the final four made up of ALL BIG 12 TEAMS:(

GO JAYHAWKS AND TIGERS!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D :D :)

stillwater15 03-22-2002 07:27 PM

although kentucky didn't beat duke, how ironic is it that duke got beat on kentucky's home court. who can forget the infamous chest stomp by christian laettner on one of kentucky's players, years ago. a little piece of redemption for uk fans.

hannahgirl 03-22-2002 09:52 PM

I go to Akron U and Kent is our rival.....but hell.....

GO KENT!!!!

RockChalk 03-23-2002 01:32 AM

WOOHOO! Kansas is in the ELITE EIGHT!

GOOOO HAWKS!

Kevin 03-23-2002 03:05 AM

I still think Oklahoma got shafted on their seeding...

Doesn't matter now though...:D :D

TriDeltaGal 03-23-2002 04:54 PM

I swear when you think UCLA is going to lose. they win and when they are supoose to win they lose. UCLA is out, lost to Mizzou after being like 10 points ahead the enite game. Good Luck to all of your teams!

lindsay_iu 03-23-2002 07:39 PM

Ex Greek, I have to disagree. Coaches can make a tremendous difference in the performance of a team. All of the players wanted Davis to be their coach. The best example of the impact of coaches that I can think of is the Lombardi-era Packers. The biggest part of those great players were on the team before Lombardi became coach, and they did nothing. They had one of the worst records in team history...then once Lombardi became coach, they never had a losing record and they won three world championships. Of course, I'm not saying that talented players don't make an impact, but coaching does make a big difference. :)

Wouldn't exactly compare davis to lombardi, lol. If they can get by oklahoma than beat a great team in the finals, than maybe but until than we shall see. Davis had a first round loss last year so to me thats proof that its the great players he had, not too much to do with coaching.

lindsay_iu 03-24-2002 04:08 AM

Oh...I'm definitely not comparing Davis to Lombardi. hehe. In my opinion, no one can compare to Lombardi. I was just using him as an example of the difference that coaches can make, as he was the most obvious example to me. As for the first round loss last year...well, I didn't follow the team, so I really can't say much about that, but every team has those games where they're just off. It happens and sometimes things just don't click. I just think that this tournament has been good for Davis because he has some big shoes to fill by following Knight. If IU can win the championship, it might cause some disenchanted Knight supports to warm up to Davis and the IU program again.

That is exactly what I meant also and I agree!

Tom Earp 03-26-2002 05:54 PM

WELL SPORTS FANS! KU and O from somewhere in OK for the head cheese in charge of the Tourny!!!!!!!!

KU # 1 when all said and done!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/party/dance2.gif

Then In Hawk Land, Lawrence and KC, the fit hits the shan!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/beerchug.gifhttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/party/drinka.gifhttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/party/ylsuper.gif

AND THEN!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/puke.gif:D

Kevin 03-26-2002 09:46 PM

I'm predicting an all Big 12 final game! OU vs. Kansas part 3
Other "rival" conferences made a laughable appearance in this tournement.

RockChalk 03-27-2002 09:39 AM

They certainly did! That'll teach Maxim to say we suck!

And if I hear one more comparison to the KU-OU title game of 1988, I'm gonna scream. How can you compare those two games when neither school has any of the same players, coaches, or athletic directors? They're the same teams in name only! Get over it!

That's actually not nearly as bad as some of the comparisons you get during the football season... I recall this year when OU went to the Cotton Bowl they kept comparing the Arkansas-OU championship game from I believe the mid 70's...

I guess it's because the sports media needs a lot of 'filler' and 'trivia' because they don't have a lot to talk about when the game is not actually ON.

lindsay_iu 03-30-2002 11:53 PM

Yay Hoosiers!!!!!! They've had such a great post-season. I really hope that they can win the championship. IU has be in the final game 5 times and they've never lost. Let's hope that they can keep up that record. :)

Of course the other so called rival conferences are in the final game.

Kansas, 2 point favorite
Oklahoma, 7 point favorite, both gone

If Indiana can have another unreal shooting game like they have the past two games, they might beat Maryland but md has looked very solid all season.

DGPhoney 03-31-2002 01:37 AM

I must have totally missed this thread! Anywho, I am with Maryland all the way, like someone mentioned before they have been a solid team all season, I mean Juan Dixon, work it out, is the man, prime example would be tonites game. GOOOoooo TERPS!!!!!!! :D beating a fast pace team like KU, one more to go!
GO TERPS!!!!!
DGP~Honey~

Thrillhouse 04-02-2002 01:55 AM

Bob Knight: 3-0 all time in championship games

Mike Davis: 0-1 in championship games

A good run falls short for indiana

I also have to throw a chris wilcox mention in here as well just for the heck of it:D

phisigQT 04-02-2002 10:33 AM

:)
all i have to say is...UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND...2002 NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

DGPhoney 04-02-2002 11:46 AM

xo_sue 04-02-2002 01:17 PM

Kevin 04-02-2002 02:09 PM

All I can say i that I'm damned glad I never actually paid into the pool I was in :D

I'm pretty sure Bob Knight's Hoosiers won 4. Also, I thought it was amazing how last nights game seemed to be a repeat of Saturday's with the Hoosiers getting the short end of the stick. a close game all night, and then really losing it in the last 10 min.

DeltAlum 04-03-2002 01:37 AM

Despite all of the school spirit and such, was it just me or what that one of the worst played championship basketball games in history?

IowaHawkeye 04-03-2002 01:51 AM

i totally agree. slppy playing on both ends of the court. blake is supposed to be one of the assist leaders in the ncaa and he was committing far more turnovers than usual. and maryland, with such an excellent f/t percentage was not shooting as well as they usually do. the game was very low scoring on marylands half - i think theyre something like 8th is points per game - it was much more of an indiana type game - where they take their time and set up their offense while maryland is more of a run and gun type team. it was a sloppy sloppy game - and i think if maryland would have been playing better, they would have won the game in the first half. the more i see him play though, the more impressed i get with juan dixon. he's excellent - a true leader on that team and unstopable at times.

ok, my bad. i was thinking they'd won 4 total, but it's 5, and i do think they are 5/6 in the finals, 5/5 up until this year. that's not bad.

Peaches-n-Cream 04-03-2002 04:10 PM

This might sound like a weird question, but what is a terp?

Congratulations Maryland!:D
