Personally, it doesn't offend me when someone says that they didn't click with or didn't like an AXO chapter. It's not mine, and I realize that AXO (even my chapter) isn't for everyone and that not everyone's going to like it.

I am the first to jump on a crazy negative comment about a chapter, but I think if the person can do it tactfully, then using names is OK.
The problem is, if person is even thinking of posting something mean, what kind of member are they? I mean, really, I love KD, not just my chapter, but I understand if someone doesn't feel the same, not all of us bleed green...that's why there are 26 NPC groups, one is bound to work for you! |
I have been going back through and reading all of the rush threads and I have to say honestly I haven't seen anything offensive. I understand from my own experience as a rushee how emotional it gets, and you don't always understand how you could possibly have gotten cut. Even though I am a Chi O and some of what one of the rushees had to say was about Chi O, the only reason she was all upset was because she had wanted to be one so badly. I'm ok with that. In fact, as good as Justamom's thread was, it was driving me crazy not to know which chapters she was talking about.
It's sort of like the situation right now with people being so worried about offending others with their flags and "God Bless America" signs. There's always going to be someone who can find something to get offended about, even if it seems totally benign. This is America, for crying out loud!!! If our flag is going to offend you, get the heck out!!!! Likewise, my rush experience was my rush experience. I had to cut a few houses, that's the way it goes. It's part of the rush game. It shouldn't offend people to hear it. Every chapter that I cut that rush cut someone else....that's the way it works. Now if I said "XYZ chapter is such a bunch of nerds!!!! There's no way I would even go there, as if I would have to hang out with girls who look like THAT!!!" That's offensive, yes!!! But to just say, "XYZ chapter isn't a very strong chapter at our school, and it just wasn't what I was looking for" or "I just didn't fit in there" is perfectly appropriate. I don't want to scare the rushees off from naming names because I really do like to hear each individual experience. Just my opinion, but there it is.;) |

it's all in how you say it.
i agree the rushee threads have been tremendous. keep it up. just watch your words if you start feeling tacky. cheers mmcat   :p |
