Pranks are ever-escalating. You do something "not really bad" to them, then
they do something worse to you, then you have to get them back....it ends up ugly. But here's the best one I ever heard of: At UTenn, back in the 1980's I think, LXA and PiKA houses were neighbors, and they didn't get along. PiKA would send their pledges to urinate on the side of the LXA house. A mixed-up mailman made a mistake: a package for PiKA was accidentally delivered to LXA (not all mailmen read greek!) What was the package? Why a copy of PiKA ritual sent by their HQ. So the next time the PiKA pledges came for their nature call, the LXAs acted out PiKA ritual on top of the house (flat roof). Now that's a "prank"! lol! Probably ruined the PiKA's fraternity experience though. |
And commited a felony.

That'd keep most of our boys from practicing in their profession. In MO, felonies keep you from getting any state licensure (MD, pharmacist, lawyer, heck even barber!). |

I know the old SAE house is some kind of office. I hear the old Kappa Sigma house is a halfway house or something. The very old TriDelt house was a church last I saw. The former Chi Omega house belongs to the University and is now an office for one of those useless majors that will never land anyone a job. The 3 old Lambda Chi houses are: 1) an apartment building, 2) a house rented to someone who makes it look like a haunted house, 3) torn-down and now a vacant lot that a doctor's office is being built near. |

Spring 1997 - Lambda Chi Alpha risk manager threatened by members of Kappa Sigma. Kappa Sigs warn "you're gonna get hurt" to risk manager. Warning fueled by fact that Lambda Chi risk manager had dated young woman who had previous relationship with Kappa Sigma member (who didn't care and wasn't present at confrontation). Fall 1997 - Kappa Sigma charter revoked due to enormous debt to national office. Allegations of drug use at chapter house also cited. Two of three members of Kappa Sigma who made threats forced to leave school due to low GPA. Spring 1998 - SAE sends threatening e-mail to Lambda Chi Alpha vice-president. Letter states "Maybe someday you'll be #1 and know what it's like... yeah right". Later that semester SAE members show up in large group at local establishment in order to start large-scale fight with Lambda Chi members. Fall 1998 - SAE charter revoked after 2 members arrested for rape in the state of New Mexico. Alleged rape took place at party on UNM campus. Many members transfer out of school or simply drop out. Fall 1998 - TKE (boasting largest membership on campus) begins seeking physical fights with any other organization. Many TKEs hurl verbal insults at others during Spring 1999 Greek Week events and encourage physical confrontation. TKE members target Lambda Chi. One TKE threatens Lambda Chi member at football game. Spring 1999 - TKE removed from campus after physically beating member of own fraternity. TKE membership very low due to blanket rush that initiated many who dropped out next semester. Large debt also cited. Chapter was on campus less than 2 years. Spring 1999 - Drunken Chi Omega member hurls verbal insults at Lambda Chi brothers -- "Don't forget who MADE you!" also heard by many witnesses. Fall 1999 - Chi Omega removed from campus by alumni. Membership was at lowest point in years. House donated to university. Spring 2001 - Sigma Phi Epsilon has angry grudge against Lambda Chi due to use of a homemade cart for annual Greek Week "Bed Race". Cart was formerly owned by SigEp, but left at former member's house for over a year. Cart given by member to Lambda Chi. SigEp pledge verbally curses at Lambda Chi brothers, but only to his own brothers... not realizing that person within earshot is Lambda Chi alumnus visiting to support his chapter. Alumnus asks pledge what problem is; SigEp pledge still mumbles but continues to walk backward to stand behind SigEp actives. Alumnus threatened by another SigEp pledge with crew cut("I think you'd better leave, sir"), alumnus responds with reasonable solution ("**** off, G.I. Joe"). Cart ownership goes to appeal and is given back to Lambda Chi Alpha. Date unknown (circa 2003) - Sigma Phi Epsilon removed from campus. Chapter had short run as actual charter and is completely forgotten. BOTTOM LINE: DON'T MESS WITH LAMBDA CHI |

The city has been apprised of these matters and has formed an opinion of the Greeks. Truth isn't as important as the impression that the city carries. After closing four houses the University may start to think like this: The greeks are a pain in the ass. If we can close them all then we can get rid of the position of greek adviser and then we'll have $50,000 to spend elsewhere. We've already closed four, how many more to go? Hmm, wonder if the city zoning board could help us? Closing houses might make you feel good and smug for a while, but look at the impact on the local system; if they were behaving poorly then that is what the public will remember, not all the good things that our guys did. We are a minority that must constantly justify our existence to college administrators and city officials who would like to be rid of a real or perceived problem. And the universities and cities hold most of the cards |
I was particularly sad to see Kappa Sigma and SAE get pulled. Kappa Sig, SAE and Lambda Chi were the "big three" for years prior to those two being closed. I was actually the president of IFC when Kappa Sigma was yanked. SAE was removed after I was out of office. We hated to see them go, but all of the chapters that were pulled flat out deserved what they got. I'd want my own chapter shut down if there were deadbeats, drug users or accused rapists as members. While we hated to see our system getting smaller, it was preferable to keeping around an organization that was making everyone else look bad. Keep in mind that much of this was nearly 10 years ago so those people are all long gone from the campus.
I graduated years ago, so I'm not sure how the current situation is. I know Kappa Sigma returned to campus around 2 or 3 years ago. SAE never came back even though they had one of the strongest alumni bases at UTEP. SigEp was always struggling when I was an active, so it was no shock when they vanished. If I'm not mistaken there are only a handful of fraternities left. Honky would know better than me on who is still left and how the current numbers are. |

By the way Ceasar, the TKE threatened me at soccer for touching him when I made a play for the ball as goalie. He threatened to get his gun out of his car, what a loser, glad they're gone they were a joke. Zeta's sold there house last fall, and are currently looking for a lodge instead of a house so that their insurance is less. SigEp closed for excessive debt to their headquarters in 2004, owed in excess of $16,000. Our chapter is no longer in debt, and will be having a formal in May, let me know if you are interested in going. |
Losing a Chapter of any GLO will do nothing but hurt the toatal Greek System at any school!
Get realy stupid and pay the price! While it may seem fun at the time as kevin said, it can grow and become something that gets out of hand!:( Who then loses when the Chapter is kicked off of campus? Theirs and ours!:o |
ZTA sold their house? Wow, it's like the end of an era. That house was around for years before I got there and was there long after I left.
I'm hoping to get to campus to see a few Greek Week events. My guess is that they're going on all week. Let me know when football and lip-synch are. Now I remember the thing with the soccer game against TKE. I wound up tearing a hamstring that game and fell on my face. TKE had a party where they actually called themselves "The Kidney Erosion". They were a bunch of thugs and it was a huge relief to many when they were revoked. The previous game was when Chris Carter, who never played soccer in his life, wound up kicking the ball off the side of his foot at midfield and the ball somehow slowly went in because the goalie (a member of the UTEP soccer team!) was playing up. We wound up winning 1-0. I'm a bit surprised to hear that SigEp has people still at UTEP. That chapter has been gone for awhile. I saw the old AKLs on TV talking about that one girl who died from DWI a few week sago. I guess she was a friend of theirs. Did any of the guys know her? |

I never what local news so I don't know anything about a girl who died. But the AKL chapter is officially closing there chapter at the end of the semester I believe, they are to far in debt to their HQ. Only 4 fraternities left after that. Since this is the prank board, yesterday while the chapter was trying to practice for lip sync, the ZTA's tried to sneak attack the members cars and write stuff on the windows and put shaving cream all over them. One of the AM's was leaving to get some food for us and caught them trying to hide. He called the guys and they caught 2 of them and took their shaving cream and sprayed all over them. Tonight at dodgeball, the chapter is going to take some of the ZTA's key and move their cars to a secret spot and make them go through a scavenger hunt to find them. |

As joinerLXA said it can do nothing to escalate in to possible worse. Use you heads and go onward. Keep the Zeta as things can get worse, it can cause further problems down the road. |
Yeah, Tom might be right.
Shaving cream is one thing, it washes off. Actual theft of an automobile, no matter if the person gets it back or not through a scavenger hunt, is illegal. If someone stole my keys and told me to go find my car, I'd say go screw and call the cops on them. Say you did move their cars and they got damaged. Or they ALLEGED that they got damaged. Or that they had a $500 stereo system in it. Or $1,000 cash in the glove compartment that is now missing. Kiss your beer budget good-bye. |
For God's sakes, just don't steal the Pike's fire truck.
Been there, discovered that, had to say "OK, who stole the fire truck that is sitting on the lawn - would someone kindly drive the damn thing back over to the Pike house..." |
